Davee's Infinity CFW:
Permanent CFW on (Nearly) All PSP Models!

IPFthrP.png

I'm legitimately a bit surprised I haven't seen a thread about this anywhere. I figure it'd be good to spread information about this, so here we go:

Information on Davee's Infinity CFW:
DaveeFTW has recently released a brand new Custom Firmware that allows anybody to install permanent custom firmware on their PSP through a relatively simple process. This CFW takes advantage of an exploit in the official 6.31 firmware files in order to install itself and create a "hybrid" of 6.61 and 6.31. Sound a bit confusing? In simple terms, by taking advantage of a bug in 6.31, permanent custom firmware can be installed in nearly every PSP model that couldn't install permanent CFW before.

How Do I Install This?
If you're interested, I would highly recommend you go ahead and check out TheZett's excellent tutorial on wololo.net. This tutorial comes with download links to the latest LME and PRO firmware files (needed to install Infinity), as well as the official firmware files for 6.31 and 6.61 (which are also required to install Infinity).

Alternatively, HackInformer has a nice alternative tutorial that's a bit less text heavy. You can take a look at it here.

Finally, Davee's official website where you can grab the Infinity CFW itself is here. This is already listed in the tutorials I put up above, but I figured I'd go ahead and throw in a separate link too.

Questions

Does This Work on The PSP Street (E1000)?
First and foremost, I'd like to point out that at the moment Davee's Infinity CFW does not work on the PSP Street models. This is because Davee's CFW takes advantage of a flaw in 6.31 that was later patched in other firmwares. The issue is that the PSP Street doesn't support the 6.31 firmware or any firmware below it, sadly meaning that it's incompatible with this. Davee stated that later on he might try to get Infinity working on the Street models, but as of this writing it's sadly incompatible.

Can I Install this on my old 1000/2000?
Second, this permanent CFW is really only meant for the PSP models that couldn't have permanent CFW beforehand. Yes, you can install Davee's Infinity on your 1000 or 2000, but TheZett recommends that you just keep your other 6.61 permanent CFW. It's superior to the old 6.20 permanent patch for 3000s and Gos, but for everything else you should look into the permanent ME and PRO installation.

Closing Comments

Finally, I'd like to think the /r/PSP subreddit for keeping me informed about Davee's Infinity firmware. I definitely plan on installing this on my Go and upgrade my 6.20 3000! Another thanks goes out to the kind people who wrote the tutorials above: TheZett and HackInformer. They should make things incredibly clear if you want to put some new life into your PSP. Of course, Davee himself deserves some credit for making such a fantastic piece of homebrew for a handheld. It's great to see the PSP get a little more love well after it's hey-day, even if this is Davee's "goodbye" to the PSP.

Hopefully, sharing this news will put some new life into the PSP section of GBATemp!

I'm deffo going to use this on a PSP Go when I got one.
Me current PSP is on 6.39-ME9.6, got quite a few plugins installed and kinda want to migrate them from me old PSP to me soon to have Go.

Finally it almost doesn't matter what psp you have now. Want a 6.60 version. Noticed for the pro cfw it is pro-c2 and not pro-c3.

Huh. I wasn't aware Pro-C3 was the latest. No clue if that's a mistake or if Davee's CFW simply doesn't work with C3 for whatever reason.

I could be incorrect, but I think you can install Davee's Infinity while on 6.60. You still need the 6.61 update to use Infinity, but I think it works okay if you're on 6.60. Is there any reason why you'd prefer a 6.60 version? If it's because you like the even version firmware numbers, you can use a spoofer (via plugins) so it looks like 6.60 in the System Information, or remove the version firmware number altogether. Granted, I haven't been able to get plugins to work on either of my PSPs, but maybe I'll give it another shot.

Neat. The Go is really nice with CFW. Where do you plan on grabbing one? Got one at Gamestop a couple of years back used and cheap.

Make sure you grab the firmware files for the Go and not the regular PSP models, since those are different.

When I get the chance I might go ahead and make a step by step tutorial on how to install this myself with some nice helpful images. I kind of posted this in a hurry because I really wanted to share this since strangely GBATemp didn't have a release thread already, so I'll try to update the original post later down the line.

I think i read somewhere that there are plugin compatibility issues with using 6.60 plugins on 6.61 cfw and issues with 6.60 themes on 6.61. That's the main reason i would rather be on 6.60 over 6.61.

I've been watching the project on Wololo for a while now.
I'll prolly get a Go next month orso.
Aye, PSP Go lacks the UMD so it has it's own "firmware" so to say.

I don't see why people like videos so much.
You won't learn anything from it.
Text and images are obviously superior.

You don't need to update to 6.61 to use Infinity because Infinity is, strictly speaking, an OFW in itself. You can install Infinity from 6.60 and it will update you to Infinity 6.61 'OFW'. From there, you install your CFW (PRO-C or whatever) and set it to auto-boot using the configurator.

Dug out my old PSP-3000 for this, works lovely. :)

Funny you say that. Davee released something that will allow 6.60 only plugins to work on 6.61. It can be grabbed here. Make sure you read the instructions carefully! Now there's no reason not to upgrade!

Also, I gave this a whirl on my PSP Go last night and it worked wonders. I now have permanent CFW on it which is pretty cool.

It's a permenent CFW. Automatically boots into CFW on system startup. Not previously possible on PSP-3000 systems above 6.20.

I just got my first not-already-hacked PSP. A PSP-3004 03g. How would I go about doing Infinity, since it requires a CFW to begin with?

Which explains why the file "CIPL Flasher" (which is the "make it permanent" thing) doesn't work on my 3000 (or on my 1000 for that matter). Are there any advantages *other* than that? I'm honestly not fussed about running the "fast recovery" file when I power on, I don't use the PSP an awful lot to be honest.

Not really. The whole purpose is to allow you to auto-boot into PRO-C.

I'd say it's worth installing - it's not particularly difficult or time consuming to install (maybe 10 minutes?), and it is probably going to be the last major PSP CFW.

So I just installed PRO-C2 on 6.60. Can I use Infinity now with 661.PBP and 631.PBP to make it permanent?

I believe it does, yeah. The 1000 should in fact be compatible with the cIPL flasher. It is recommended to use cIPL CFWs instead of Infinity on older systems compatible with cIPL because they are actually superior, even Davee says this.

This release is mainly intended for later systems (3000, Go, later 2000) where autoboot has not previously been possible.

Yes you can. You need to use Infinity with 661 and 631, and then finally use 6.61 PRO-C2.

Never got the CIPL to work on my 1000, it just wouldn't have it, oh well. Like I say I wasn't that fussed anyway.
