If you tried this on your 3DS, did it work?

Tried doing a factory reset and trying this again, still no go. Loading minipasta simply puts me back into HBL. Loaded up downgrade checker and all this comes up. Even following the CFW guide doesn't work (loading PastaCFW results in a blank screen). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well at the moment I'm trying to load things from HBL and it just goes back to the HBL main menu.

EDIT: When loading minipasta this happens, help please.

I'm sitting in about the same bind as you. With my system, I can get menuhax up and running, but trying to fire up mini pasta either from OOT OR from menuhax results in the same thing for me too.

EDIT: I did end up getting my system out of frankenfirmware - I ended up running the memchunkhax2 based sysupdater again and did a downgrade a second time (for anyone else out there thinking of trying this, take note that this was a last ditch attempt, and I'd exhausted all other ways that I'm aware of to try getting an unsigned cia up and kicking in sysnand, to no avail browserhax, menuhax, ninjhax, and OOThax (I'd try the smash brothers one too, but I actually don't own it)- as per with the first time around, this very well might leave your system in a softbricked, or even hardbricked state...try this at your own risk).

sorry for being so dumb but what is frankenfirmware?

It's what happens if for some reason (usually without you actually doing anything wrong, and almost exclusively with n3ds's) your system update fails, and you end up with a partially downgraded system. You have part of your original firmware, and part of the downgraded one. This causes some exploit points (and in some cases, nearly all exploit points) to not work as expected.

I assume i have frankenfirmware. but not sure how this can be fixed. i got the infamous "Error Has Occurred" system was a 9.9.0.24U was going to 9.2.0.20U and I used safer Sysupdated. it checked the cia's before install it went thru. then got the message and i am in panic. system will boot up when i go to say system settings just loops the animation 3ds with red pulses. same with web browser. cubic ninja loads. i also have zelda ocarina of time. (never installed an installer and dont see it in homebrew starter2, i see the smdh, xml files only) when i load up cubic ninja it say loading payload and then stops there and then kicks me out error. i tried then to download rop payload of 9.9.0.24U, maybe i need to put 9.2.0.20U.

I've encountered the same issue but here's what i did:

Recover from Frankenfirmware w/o upgrading to 10.3 or higher (CUBIC NINJA VER.)

Tested on 9.9 N3DS FW.

- After you get the "error has occured screen" while downgrading, switch off the 3ds
- when you switch "on" the 3ds you will get a black screen
- switch off the 3ds and pull out the MMC
- you will notice that it will boot into the home menu but you cant access anything (settings, browser, etc)
- switch off the 3ds and go to "recovery mode"
- try updating but "only to set up the internet connection". DO NOT UPDATE.
- once wireless settings has been enabled, switch off the 3ds.
- switch it back on, once you see the home menu, reinsert your mmc and launch cubic ninja and launch ninjahax

- once you have access to the Homebrew channel, reinstall menuhax and install pasta cfw or mini pasta (I 've installed Pasta cfw)
- launch pasta cfw and relaunch homebrew
- downgrade again
- be happy :D

NOTE: you will need to make sure that you are conneted to the internet to load ninjahax

try updating but "only to set up the internet connection". DO NOT UPDATE. how is this done if 3ds only option is okay and cancel. should i just go for a walk like a block away and then it will let me setup internet connection

I wasn't thinking last night, now i get it, i needed a new qr code for 9.2.0.20U so i did it for cubic and it loads homebrew, so i am all good i believe, but i need to seek the best route possible, no more softbricks. already had two. atleast this is the lest worry some one, i can get back i can feel it. think i should update to 10.3 then do the exploit like everyone says. Something to do with how new 3ds works. i hear

Sweet so i just followed this guide using cubic as one of the people meantioned it appears to be 100% working. i was able to go to settings and see firmware. now to continue where i normally would hack. like i always did in past.

Is necessary to install Pasta? A friend got his 9.5 n3ds on frankenfirmware like Aphixe's and I was thinking to launch safesysupdater after installing menuhax.

just posting here to say thank you =)
what i got:
guy on skype with his n3ds on fw 9.6.
use as usual safesysupdater and apropriate files for downgrade, after 10 sec of downgrading we got black screen and frankenfrimware in result ( freeze when try to acces browser and system settings).
luckily he got sky3ds.
use ninjahax>minipasta>fbi install sysupdater>minipasta>sysupdater ( from home menu)> succesfull downgrade to 9.2 and finally rxtools ;)

I was just doing 2 N3DSXLs and I had the error occurred on the first.
It rebooted stating 9.2. So I figured why not and just did homebrew launcher to menuhax to sysupdater and downgraded again. It went through fine.

Now on the 2nd one I also had the An error has occurred. No big deal, Ill downgrade again. This time it threw a black screen and is hard bricked.
They were both on 9.6
So i take it even with the error, if I can still launch browser and get to homebrew launcher I shouldn't worry about it?

I answer myself: Is not. A friend got frankenfirmware, he got to homebrew via oot3dhax, and he finished the downgrade as usual.

So I have two options, one is to use oothax and try downgrading again, and another one is to use a mario paper jam cartridge to update to 10.1, which one would be the safer better solution?

If you're stuck on a frankenfirmware, just use OOTHax and the normal sysupdater as stated in the article. If you used SafeSysUpdater, it probally installed NativeFirm so you're on a 9.2 FIRM.

Just follow the tutorial with the same update folder and it will downgrade the rest for you. Then you'll be on a good 9.2 (can check with the downgrade checker)

Yup, I've been trying to downgrade my friends N3DS and used SafeSysUpdater from 9.9, and it popped an error after several CIA's and NativeFirm.
Both browser and system settings just hang the 3DS in an infinite loop.
So I should just set up OOTHax on my already-downgraded N3DS, and use it to launch HB on the Frankenfirmware N3DS, right?
Should I use SafeSysUpdater again, or Julians SysUpdater?

Thanks for the help :)

Guys i need help.

I tried to downgrade New 3DS from 9.9 but got error in the middle of the process. After rebooting everything is working fine etc.. I can launch all the apps, menuhax is still working. When i am trying to launch reiNand via coldboot, console freeze on red screen. Am I doing something wrong or i have got frankenfirmware? I don't have Cubic Ninja or Ocarina of Time but still have access to homebrew channel. Is there a way to repair this? Sorry for my terrible english.

Should i run sysupdate with 9.2 again?

Got frankenfw, and was able to complete the downgrade by just getting into homebrew via cubic ninja and running safesysupdater (memchunkhax2 edition) again. It finished the downgrade and downgrade check says I'm all good now. Reinand works dandy. Thanks for the tips folks. When I tried following OPs guide directly, minipasta never launched, so... I took the leap of faith with re-running safesysupdater. On the positive side, I only have 1 extra file and 3 mismatched files versions instead of 4 so maybe this way is superior? Just another data point for those trying to fix frankenfw, probably a very risky move on my part, so not recommending it until someone confirms it will always work.

I don't understand. Do i need Cubic Ninja or Ocarina of Time to launch safesysupdater (memchunkhax2 edition) and finish downgradeing? Or normal browserhax if works can be used too? I need Updates folder with 9.2 firmware on root folder?

Nvm.

I downgraded again with the same files and now im installing CFW.
