Did you try using BBM yet?
no reply from my friend yet. not sure when he's gonna be back, i did send him some instructions though to install BBM and reinstall smash with that.

also are there any titles that are not removed by removing the game from system settings? if there are, what titles should he remove with BBM?

Well, he didn't really need to delete the game. Tell him to install Smash Bros normally (and update it normally), once he has Smash Bros completely installed, tell him to install the DLC with BBM.

Okay, I was just baffled when I read it got deleted, but what about themes, some people claim accessing the eShop removes their custom themes. I don't have that happening either.
I use custom themes and they've never been removed. (I use CHMM2 though, not sure if other methods yield different results)

That's referring to CIA themes, like the ones you make with Howling. I don't know how this works, but my guess is the same thing as for DLC: if you have any legit theme installed (including free like the Sonic/MH one?), the ticked would be "repaired" and the illegal ones removed. Don't quote me on this though.

Anyway, let's get this straight:

Upon entering eShop with NNID:
1. Legit game, no purchased DLCs: CIA DLC kept?
2. Legit game, any purchased DLC: CIA DLC removed
3. CIA game, no purchased DLC: CIA DLC kept
4. CIA game, any purchased DLC: CIA DLC removed (thanks Supster131 for testing!)

edit: just for clarification, Mewtwo code would count as a purchased DLC in this scenario
edit2: so basically, if you own any piece of legit DLC, you'll have to reinstall the CIA ones every time you enter eShop

1. I personally don't know. When I accessed the eShop my DLC for StreetPass Plaza was removed, but I haven't purchased anything for that.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
4. I don't know. I don't think anyone has bought DLC for a CIA game.

Edit: I guess I can try installing a Smash Bros CIA to test out number 4. I'll report back with results in a bit.

Ok, yeah the themes I have are done with howling. But I have no legit themes. As for your numbered questions, I know 3 would be a yes. Glad I don't have anything legit on my 3DS. :D

Me neither, but it's very plausible for someone with a cartridge and a few legit DLCs to "upgrade" to CIA for convenience, and even sell their cart.
Yeah, I'm gonna try that right now (with the exception of selling my game :P I need that SD card space). Only DLC I own is the Mewtwo one, so lets see what happens.

surprisingly, BBM worked!
Glad to know it worked! :D

Just tested it out. If you own legit (paid) DLC for a CIA, the CIA DLC will be removed for that game upon entering the eShop. Tried it out on Smash Bros. Only my Mewtwo stayed after entering the eShop.

this is exactly the situation. not sure if this incident is limited to smash.

so i used ace attorney 5 EU version with the EU DLC
and logged to eshop , will the DLC disappear ?

It isn't, but it seems like we can confirm (whether you own the game legally or use a CIA of it) that your CIA DLC will not be removed if you do not own any legit DLC for that game. BUT! If you own legit DLC for that game (doesn't matter if you own the game or not), DLC CIA will be removed upon entering the eShop.

Pretty sure no DLC will be removed if you don't own any legit DLC for it. And since you said your game is from another region, you wouldn't be able to download the DLC from your eShop. So you should be good.

seems like a lesson that we shouldn't buy DLCs halfway. it's either buy everything or buy none.

Thanks for testing, updated my post. So yeah it's basically what we previously knew (any piece of legit DLC gets the unlegit ones deleted upon entering eShop due to ticket incompatibility), but I was curious about slightly different scenarios. This kinda sucks though, but well, I guess most of us don't use the eShop that much after getting CFW anyway, though I like having my main account since I have quite a few legit games in it.

I wonder if updating games in the home menu also causes that. It seems to launch quite a bit of the eShop in the background instead of just straight downloading the update, so I guess it does...

What other types of scenarios?

Also, yeah sadly updating a game removes the DLC for it.

eshop never deleted my dlc. Entering data management never deleted .cia's that I don't own either. I have NNID on my emunand. Entering the in-game DLC shop for smash will delete my DLC though.

But I've always had that problem of DLC not showing up after installing with FBI. I've always had to use BBM.

When I was playing Hyrule Warriors Legends I went into the downloadable content section and hit receive presents just one see what it would do and when I realized it was making me sign in to my NIND I exited the game and checked my Smash CIA. DLC gone, so I had to reinstall. (I own a legit copy as well)

I think the person had it right by saying we lose DLC whenever we connect to our NIND. It sucks because I like going into the eshop sometimes. Is there a way to remove my NIND or do I need that to access the eshop?
