PS Vita Portable Charger MOD - Make it CHARGE with "anything"

You can read in more detail my "findings" in my blog, http://dgsworkshop.blogspot.pt/2016/01/ps-vita-portable-charger-mod.html .
I bought this (without owning a Vita) because it was really cheap, +/- 3€, and it's 5Ah!! That's a lot!
But has usual sony had to make you use their proprietary stuff...

What you want to do to make this really good "Power Bank" into charging with any usb charger that is 5V 1A minimum!! is to open that thing up and solder 2 wires right here:

RED - +5V
Black - GND
You'll need to connect your vita cable with the data pins shorted or solder these 2 pins (not confirmed by me, but according to my testing those were the data pins):

Here's my final result:

Also in case you're interested, theres a ATMEL chip inside (aKa "arduino")

Nice job! I'd attempt it, but I suck ass at that kind of thing.
I think that my main issue was the USB cable that couldn't handle the current needed to charge the battery, so if you have a sony cable you probably just need to short the data pins somehow

By standard D+ and D- must be connected to identify the device as a charger/power supply (>1A)
But of course companies had to fuck it up.

Anw this can be done on the cable itself. Personally I bought an adapter for this purpose (can't solder).

@dicamarques If it's 5000mAh and only 3 euros, chances are it's not.

EDIT: I got it the other way around. Ignore what I said.

It was in discount :P
I thought I would only need the cable, so i ordered it from an online store (not a official cable so that might be the issue) and I measured the current and it would never go higher than 300mA so the cable was the issue, i even thought de-soldering the vita port, but let it stay like that.
Edit: FYI with a full charge it handled my Raspberry PI for more than 7hrs! but it was already red the led so i powered it down

Nice mod. I might someday mod my DS lite to charge with a Micro USB like everything else does. Fun fact, the Vita slim has a micro USB charging slot too. Its probably one of my favorite things about the slim.

Wouldn't it be easier to just make an adapter cable instead? I'd rather make a pass-through than mess with the internals of the device - that's normally something you'll want to avoid.
