UPDATE:

Tokyo, December 16, 2015 - Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCE) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Kojima Productions, a newly formed studio by the acclaimed game designer Hideo Kojima, to develop its first software title as a console exclusive to the PlayStation(R)4 (PS4(TM)) computer entertainment system.

"PlayStation(R)'s history is one of game innovation and great new franchises," said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "Hideo Kojima has been a huge part of that history, and we are therefore delighted that he has chosen to bring his brand new project to life in partnership with PlayStation. We look forward to working with him on an exciting new game and warmly welcome him to the PlayStation family."

"I will be taking on a new challenge by establishing my own independent studio, and I am thrilled to be able to embark on this journey with PlayStation, who I have continued to work with all these past years," said Hideo Kojima, Game Designer, Kojima Productions. "I cannot wait to deliver, with PlayStation, a game that will become a compelling franchise."

SCE will continue to expand the world of PS4 to deliver entertainment experiences that are only possible on PlayStation.

The day is upon us friends. After the evils Konami has exacted on our dear Hideo Kojima, the man has finally arisen towards his new destiny.

Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima has officially left Konami as of Dec. 15, according to a report from Japan's Nikkei.

According to Nikkei, Kojima is establishing a new studio and is in talks with PlayStation maker Sony Computer Entertainment.

In October, The New Yorker reported that Kojima was leaving Konami and that his non-compete clause would end in December. Konami refuted the report, saying that Kojima was still an employee.

What did Konami did that got this whole "fuck them" trend going? I live under a rock.
They basically followed the money trail as any company would, kojima was leaking millions and their forte was no longer gaming but in other industries. I don't fully understand the hate they get, they are a corporation at the end of the day, without an obligation to remain faithful to some kind of game production quota. You put a magnify glass on any company and you're bound to find dirt.

Kojima could've gone for the kickstarter route but at least working with Sony feels like a satisfying "screw you" to the company who shall not be named.

Unfortunately, we'll probably won't see another Kojima Metal Gear, but that could be for the best. I was under the impression that MGS4 was supposed to be the last one, I was surprised with MGS5's announcement. So maybe it just went on for longer than Kojima wanted, maybe pressured into it.

Let's see him bring out something new and amazing with Sony.

As for Konami, I'm still judging each game on an individual basis. I'm still hoping that a new Suikoden would appear one day, but since they skipped a whole console generation (save for the NDS game, ugh) and apparently the team is disbanded, I'm not expecting anything else. Their Bemani series is pretty solid though, but I think it ran it's time as well, its selling because it doesn't need to change much more than the songs. It's basically the John Madden of Konami :P

its good they are leaving these companies. They have holding back developers from making the good stuff. Imagine would be on the wii u if the publishers got the F out of the way of these creative minds.

I think the Konami work ethic tipped things over the edge. That Nikkei report was pretty damning, shaming your employees for taking too long on the lavi or too long to eat was bad enough, then there was coders/artists being demoted to janitorial work or night watchmen...

So Kojima gets his own movie studio, since he's gone out of the way to prove that he wants to make movies at the expense of making a solid game (get it?).

And now that he doesn't have MGS on his back, what the hell else is he going to do? that's pretty much all the man has been known for for the past ten or so years now.
