All those guy in hype thread when ap check was discovered were right eventually. As a sky owner (blue button) I don't really angry on them, the flashcart function well and play all the game that was available when I purchased it. The one thing I concerned is that at any time they can bluff a new ap check and make template file that won't with new games and realese new revision.

i will buy it cuz i dont have neither gateway or blue sky3ds
it seems awesome to me the fact that you copy the games instantley
and manage saves easily without deleting save by accident (happend to my brother a lot )

Your point? I'm well aware other cards have had multiple revisions.

I never said Sky3ds only the only ones to do it, just they are laughing all the way to bank, 3 cards in a short time and people who are burned still lining up to buy it. Same goes for the other teams dropping support and expecting you to buy new hardware.

Sky however are the only one to intentionally handicap their card (the 10 game limit). Unless you believe it was not on purpose and they just happened to release an updated one, once the limit was bypassed.

#154 has video of new sky3ds+ if you watch it quite near the start when he picks up the cart to put it in the 3ds you can plainly see the port to connect the card to your p.c. to update the firmware. looks like a standard usb micro slot to my old tired eyes. give it a look........cheers guys

Man I remember the days when flashcarts had to be updated using bulky dongle thingamabobs.

Anyway, i will buy a new sky3ds anytime

The 2 buttons are a +, we don't have to cycle the whole list of games anymore since you can just cycle back.
About the upgrade function, we'll see how well it gets used when it's needed

no point in discussing it untill we have to.
It's nice to see you can add your own games to it without waiting for a new updated bin file
Another + point, no diskwriter software needed anymore!

Next thing i like to see -> cheat support

Me too - I actually used mine recently just for nostalgia value, and realised what a PITA it was being limited to ds roms that would fit on my 256mb EFA Linker.

The only option for Nintendo would be to figure out how to block it on a hardware level, as they've done earlier on the 3DS and DSi, causing most flashcarts to become incompatible overnight. If they won't manage that, it's pretty much final.

During the development of Sky Army Knife I became intimately familiar with the inner workings of the Sky3DS cartridge and I can see why the limit was there. It was both a hardware and a software issue, not the team's fancy. Sure, the initial product was rushed to market, but I find it debatable whether it was crippled on purpose or just underdeveloped at the time.

Nothing's impossible, it just may be not worth the effort. DSTwo is expensive, the install base is small, Nintendo just had a bigger fish to fry killing the R4's, so they focused on that and effectively made 90% of flashcarts on the market at the time inoperable. No flash cartridge behaves 100% like an original cart, some are just easier to block than others.

Considering the sky team seem to know what they are doing (as in, they are doing it themselves and not just copying another team), I find it hard to believe it wasn't intentional, that a team that clearly knows what they are doing (even bypassing the ap, even if it does need a new card), couldn't get past the limit. Until an unofficial patcher comes out, and just like that, suddenly they have a brand new card with no limit.

So either it was on purpose, or they released a card, fully knowing they were not going to support it.

Sky and Nintendo are like kindred spirits.

But when Nintendo introduced the 3DS the glasses-free 3D technology was brand new and the face tracking feature didn't exist yet. Sky have no such excuse, updatable firmware is pretty basic functionality and has been around forever.

That's a good way to put it. It's a win win for them because people will buy the cart anyway since it's the only 3DS flashcart that works on the latest firmware. They could have made it firmware upgradable from the get go but that would have made them less money since people would only need to buy the cart once.

But the thing is, DS flashcarts didn't need firmware upgrades. That feature became neccessary when Nintendo made the DSi, which was also firmware upgradable, which is why teams had to release a new cart for the DSi which could actually be upgraded to circumvent blocks. It makes no sense at all to release a flashcart that isn't firmware upgradable for a console that is, especially when Nintendo are known to block flashcarts in updates. If it was firmware upgradable they wouldn't have needed the two additional revisions, on the other hand the DSTWO and DSTWO+ have notable hardware changes that wouldn't have been possible with a simple firmware upgrade.

I might be going blind but it looks wider than a standard microUSB port.
Hopefully it's not a random propietary connector - that would suck.

Finally, one can call this a proper flashcart. Those that bought the blue button after the red button debackle should have waited and I pity you.

However this might cause Nintendo to push towards a firmware update to block this. At least now the firmware update option means you won't have to rebuy another $100 device that could become useless again in the future. That's assuming they implemented the firmware update feature correctly though....
