PlayStation 4 Remote Play Coming to PC and Mac

Earlier today the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, tweeted:
Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter said:
"Some people asked if we plan to provide Remote Play function to PC, and yes, we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac. :D

This sudden revelation comes just in time as many people are just now joining the PS4 bandwagon due to the Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday deals (let's just call it Black November, shall we?)

This news is also convenient as it comes right after the launch of Twisted's unofficial remote play application for Windows. While Twisted's app costs $10 to activate, there is no official information about how much the official app would cost, if anything.

Officially, remote play is currently supported for PS Vita, PSTV, and Sony Xperia phones. If what Yoshida tweeted is true then support will extend to Windows and Mac computers.

What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments!

will it require as much bandwidth than PS4 game sharing / remote play ? not everybody has optic fiber.
I currently can't broadcast my games, and I can't watch my friends games or try her games because we don't have 8Mb/s upload speed. when I try the share game speed test ... 5% !
I have ADSL 12Mb download, 1Mb (128KB/s) upload. Why not downgrade video quality before broadcasting it? even 480p doesn't work.

lot of users are happy to get remote play for PC, but you all have fiber?
if it's only local because bandwidth is not enough from internet, I'd better play on my console directly.
What would be great is if they release an official driver for PS4 controller on computer. I don't imagine playing PS4 games with keyboard and mouse.
See, as I haven't even opened my system yet I can't tell you if it'll even work for me. Is 8Mb/s what is recommended? If so I may be outta luck.

You gotta have boss upload speeds. I think 5mbs is the bare min and 10-15 download is what's recommended. Share play and remote play work the same I think. I wonder if twisted89's version allows headset usage over remote play that would be awesome

If it works anything like the remote play from an Xbox One to Windows 10, it should work fine for you on 5mb/s up. No idea about download speed, I pay for 60mb/s...

Either way, cool news for Sony guys~ May the latency be ever out of your favor ;O;

I think it's safe to assume that only upload speed matters for the PS4 and only download speed matters for the PC/Mac/Phone/Vita/TV/Refrigerator yeah?

I'd probably enjoy this even more if it weren't for the fact that I'm not really into any shooters, and that's the genre that'd benefit the most from being able to use m+kb. I'm not really sure about the other benefits, except for being able to alt tab for guides/videos. It still sounds nifty, though, and I'll definitely try it out when I get my PS4.
This is considering will they even allow mouse and keyboard to be used?
Part of me is actually thinking they could easily force using Dualshock 4 with the software. After all, PC games can already take full advantage of the controller and forcing Dualshock 4 not only keeps money on Sonys side but also makes playing games better when you are using the native controller after all. Also I can't think that they would allow Xbox controllers to be used with their stuff.

Who the f*ck buys a PS4 without a controller that you can't even set up the system without.
Well I have the PS4 and a friend who doesn't. If everything works out this means he will be able to play my PS4 when I'm not using it. He has a few DS3s but not a DS4. Then again, I'm sure that it wouldn't be too hard to use another company's controller or a m+kb after a bit of clever reverse engineering from people.

Fair enough.

remote play isn't really meant for outside of the network where the ps4 lives

it's just meant to be used when the ps4 tv is in use, so you can play on your vita, pstv, tablet, whatever now

you need a TON of upload to play remotely

I have a question. Does this mean if I got a PS4 I could stream say SFV to my Laptop and play it using my Xbox 360 fight stick?

Yes but the slight delay (lag) introduced may not be ideal for multiplayer games. Even the fastest home network or internet connection will still be subject to latency

With a wired connection, though, wouldn't the lag be negligible? Obviously it would be a bad idea to do any serious competitive gaming, because even the slightest edge is valuable, but for the vast majority of players, they'd be fine. Especially if they're like me and will use it to stream turn-based RPGs and visual novels from my Vita TV to my PC.
