legit GW card should be completely safe, we haven't heard any brick reports since 2.02b which was the only launcher version that caused bricks on legit cards.

the problem here isn't gateway, it's the world.

We live in a world where thievery is okay and collateral damage is accepted.

No piracy = none of this bricks happening.

Too bad, piracy/homebrew/copyright infringement/breaching intellectual property is simply too sweet.

Why use GW/SCDS2+ anyway! Do the little effort and use CFW + NTR 3.x for cheats!
Get an old SCDS2 for NDS/GBA (or any cart that still works on current FW for NDS)
Because honestly GW is better than the CFW's. Not saying that they are bad, its just Gateway has alot more to offer.

I have a GW, but never use it again, autoboot into CFW and have NTR 3.2 installed in emunand with cheats plugins
The only option i don't have is running 3DS files from the GW cart when i press select.
But CFW (rxTools) has so much more to offer when you look into it's menu

Anyway back on topic, GW doesn't brick your console, its SC that does a bad emulation job!

It's not like Gateway is bricking it's own users now, so I seriously don't understand why some people are being so upset at GW...
Blame Supercard for not putting any effort into the clone and not making their own launcher...

still dont you have to run the "multi patcher" thingie to get Region Locked games to run ? i remember using Reinand and i had to use MultiPatcher on every boot in my emuNAND and that was hassly , so i stick to using GW to boot in emuNAND :o

i personally love the GW cards, i use both .

blue for DS games and the red for 3ds cias , best flashcard i have owned and i hope they dont brick my console LOL i paid nearly 100$ for it .

I am skeptical towards your assertion.
Working 10.3 emuNAND, Slot-1 access for .3ds, working regionfree (rxTools is dodgy), can play games that require a higher firmware by bypassing the update check, very god damn simple to set up.

lmao.

But on topic - the bricking is down to Supercard. Gateway warned SC users there was a flaw in their GW plugin, and Supercard overlooked it. They were able to reverse engineer it, how come they never found the brick code?

Slot-1 access for .3ds - Don't need it CIA is better (but it can be done)
regionfree - rxTools has it
can play games that require a higher firmware by bypassing the update check - rxTools can do it

Working 10.3 emuNAND - rxTools has it - Fair enough, haven't been keeping up with it
Slot-1 access for .3ds - Don't need it CIA is better (but it can be done) - How can it be done?
regionfree - rxTools has it - Yeah and its buggy to fuck
can play games that require a higher firmware by bypassing the update check - rxTools can do it - How? Last time i checked you have to piss around with firmlaunch.

Thats the most important option ever, I'm not spending hours searching for .cia repacks and waiting for installation for games that I just want to try for 5 minutes.

Just throwing that in, but with the way GW codes their own software features, it is a small miracle we don't have a lot more bricks on real GW hardware. Just take their downgrade feature, for example, which leaves your SysNAND a mess (that feature is not a clean downgrade, it leaves garbage data lying all around). For other stuff, it is just not understandable why things work as they do, take, for example, their incompatibility with fully decypted .3DS and .CIA, which rxTools, ReiNAND and CakesFW have figured out aeons ago. Oh well, maybe it is understandable... they just put in as much work as they absolutely have to, so they make the best $$$ for the least effort.

The intentional brick code is just the topping on the cake and, as the past has shown, easy to trigger even on a real GW card.

Personally, I think it would be time for GW to opensource their software. I even think that would be beneficial for their profits, cause developers on here could vastly improve basically evertyhing their software does now, actually leading to sales. They could even keep their ways of forcing their hardware as DRM dongle for their software if they just kept some stuff closed source. But, anyways, who am I telling that... :/

I have my doubts. I use both Gateway and a DSTwo+ on both of my consoles and I have not seen a brick. I use both an N3DS and an O3DS too (and both are hard-modded).

Ouch! Maybe gateway should have done what i suggested before and before and block DSTWO+ emulation. Not brick the fucking handheld. Jesus Christ. All I can say was. You really think gateway would let this blatant copy paste code exist without consequences? It even says GATEWAY still. At least BlueCard spent the time to change it so it at least LOOKED like they didn't use gateways code. They spent hundreds of manhours reverse engineering so they're not going to take ripoffs of their hacks lightly. Remember when supercard and DSKEY were the forefront of ds hacking innovation? Yes Gateway is using stolen Nintendo code *not a saint by any means* but they were able to cobble it up into the gateway card that hundreds of us use today, and were the first to do so since 4.5. Theft is theft though and there is no honor among thieves.

It's basically the pirates who stuck their neck out to steal the captains keys to a treaaure chest and then just having another band of buccaneers steal the keys and copied it. They warned everyone on the ship that anyone who bought the copied keys would be punished. Now the original pirates are out for revenge and are hacking off a leg of anyone who bought said copied keys from the other group.

Here's to Team Gateway wasting countless months on copy code protection when they could have been working on N3ds newer emunand support, MSET or something better. I don't agree with this at all...

And who said they dont have the crypto keys? CFW fucked all that up, I mean why would they release it even if they had it, so that others dissect it and use it for their own CFWs? I didnt think so.
As for the bricks both hands are at fault, but most of the fault goes to the SuperCard team, I mean if you want to steal/copy others work at least do it right FFS. They managed to reverse engineer the whole launcher and make an "emulation plugin" FFS, they should have spent more time examining the code rather than release it so blatantly.
