@ihaveamac, in case of emergency where no folders work, would prefixing all images with "zimage" help? Then all images would sit at the bottom and it would be a little bit easier to access the .md s where the content actually lies.

It sounds like it's running the programs in a way that isn't compatible with the .cias. I typically just run my .cias from the home menu, but being able to run them through the grid launcher would definitely be handy.

I'm not sure if that means that it's using HANS, r4, or if neither will work. I'll fiddle around with them to see if I get the same issue(and a workaround).
I think the problem is that title launcher runs them in a way that doesn't bypass signature checks even if you are on a CFW with patched sig checks. How we would go about fixing that, I have no idea. HANS seems to be running them just fine though, and the source code for that is available, so maybe someone could take a look at that and see what HANS does that title launcher doesn't.

My legit .cias start up properly from title launcher (Pokémon, MK7, Mario 3D Land, NSMB2), it's just the ones with invalid signatures that won't.

At least I can still select them with svdt to backup/restore save files :P which is the only thing I use homebrew launcher for anymore, really. I just start up games straight from the home menu.

@peteruk

I have successfully duplicated the issue by doing the exact same thing you did. It appears to be an issue with region 4.

Using HANS title booting worked with bigbluemenu which had previously black screened. I then used it to uninstall and reinstall the HBL Launcher.

There are three ways you can get it working
1) using the hans app normally by launching the .3dsx
2) select on the loader, which lets you use either HANS or R4
3) setting HANS as the default loader in the HBL settings.

That makes sense. Since apparently HANS does allow you to boot them we have a workaround. Awesome.

Aha, great stuff mate, really appreciate you taking the time to figure this out and explain, thank you :toot:

I'm loving the wiki! Great work @RedHat and @ihaveamac.
@mashers in the op below the screenshots there's this:

This is currently still in beta. If there are issues, bugs, or if you have ideas for improvements, please post them in this thread.

But in the Bug reporting and feature requests section it says:

PLEASE DON'T POST IN THIS THREAD ABOUT THESE ISSUES.

Also theres no custom themes thread link anymore. :unsure:

I don't know if you're aware, but anyone with an account is able to edit the wiki, like so (I don't have push access to the normal repo): https://github.com/mashers/3ds_hb_menu/wiki/Home-FAQ/_history

just making sure :)
Thanks pal! I didn't know about that actually until you and @RedHat made me aware of it. I've changed it now :)

Hey @mashers how about putting a changelog into the gridlauncher?
It's annoying to enter gbatemp every time that a update launches to see the changelog.
Keep up the good work!
Hmm, yes this is possible. It could pull in the .md file from GitHub when building the launcher.zip file so it's up to date. I would need to write a .md parser though. Hmm, I'll add it as an issue for the launcher and think about how to implement it. Thanks for the suggestion!

@ihaveamac
Thank you for your contributions to the Wiki. Your changes and additions have been great! I love the changelog being merged into the wiki. I've just logged an issue for the launcher to include the changelog md file in launcher.zip. This would be a good way for the updater to grab the descriptions of the latest updates and display them before updating.

Doh! I was confusing collaborator with contributor!! @mashers, get over here!
Heh, I've changed it now ;)

Good catch - I'll change those now. The custom themes thread is linked from the wiki, but you're quite right it should still be on the original post. Sorry about that.

@peteruk @Arseface_TM
As others have said, I do not have access to <9.3 FW so can't do anything related to CFW. Sorry about that, but my 3DS was on 9.8 when I got it. Of course, if anyone wants to donate a 9.2 3DS then I could look into this issue ;)

still haven't seen it yet :P

but this wouldn't be the best idea because launcher.zip is downloaded after the user accepts. what I intended to do was have my site separately get the changelog and then the updater download it separately.

though it might also be useful for someone who is downloading launcher.zip manually and wants to see the changes, so I'd still say go with it.

Oh yeah, I forgot that the updater would need to show changes which would not yet exist in the local copy of the changelog. I'm actually not sure it's helpful for the launcher itself to show the changelog.

@Arseface_TM

i tried the workaround suggested, i am unable to load legit or anything else even using Hans

perhaps the payload i am using (2.5) and or the cia, or the 9.5 N3DS emunand

i get a black screen if i try legit on their own, or if try through Hans just garbage on top screen

Guess i am out of luck

Do any Gridlauncher users with development experience use the launcher through CFW? If so, would you be prepared to help investigate this issue? I'm really sorry but without access to FW <9.3 there is really not a lot I can do to help :(

if it's compiling this launcher as a .cia, that won't work. it's the ninjhax payload that allows .3dsx files to run. the launcher doesn't do much other than tell the payload to run a certain .3dsx file.

I'm on 9.5 N3DS CakesFW emuNAND. I've launched the HBL launcher using both Cubic Ninja .cia and the HBL Loader .cia.

Which CFW are you using, and have you tried redownloading your 2.5 payload?

EDIT: And how exactly did you boot HANS?
