I am quite happy to see this honestly, it would be nice to see more LGBT+ characters in gaming. Even if it's an optional fan-patch, it shows the gaming community is starting to progress forward.

Seriously, anyone getting upset over this, this is an optional fan patch, it's not a real feature. You don't have to download this nor even interact with this thread, there's no one making anyone do anything. If you don't agree with it, then don't install it and move on with rest of your life, simple as that, but please respect those who do want this feature.

I used the extractor you listed on SerenesForest as opposed to CTRtool. Now it works.

Ok, I've tried researching how to get this installed and I've come away very confused. Can someone point me towards a guide that would help me get this going on my 3DS?

Yay! I'm glad. The problem is that some of the files retain their Japanese names, so most extractors end up corrupting them. But that extractor specifically was designed to extract Awakening, so it maintains the correct names.

Ok, that guide was extremely helpful. I think I've just about got it, but I'm still getting an error. When I launch the game from HANS, it pretty much immediately freezes; the game doesn't even boot up.

I've been double checking the guide you posted in Serenes, and I'm positive that I followed it exactly. I also took note of the caveats to the instructions that you mentioned there.

Also, thank you for all the work you've done, and for helping me figure this out.

Edit: Yeesh. Just read a bit more into the Serenes thread, and I appear to be having the exact same issue as Ciarre. I take it that this means that I'm out of luck? :/

How about this: just unpack/rebuild the romfs without making any edits and see if it will run using hans. Whether it does or not could help narrow down what potential problems we're dealing with.

Important Edit: Uh-oh! I've just recruited Tharja!Inigo, and attempting to access a Second Seal with him makes the game freeze! I would avoid this pairing for now until I can figure out the problem.

Oh. That must be some ROM hack attached to the translation. I did the original FF5 translation with friends of mine, not that.

Meh. I figured out the problem, but it's not exactly good news. I had added in male reclass options for some female characters to pass down to potential sons, but doing so is what made the game freeze. Here's a static.bin.lz that takes away those reclass options and doesn't freeze with a Second Seal (delete the "(1)" from the name). Unfortunately, this means that Sumia!MaMorgan, Sully!MaMorgan, Cordelia!MaMorgan, Tharja!MaMorgan, Say'ri!MaMorgan, Flavia!MaMorgan, Tiki!MaMorgan, Sumia!Owain, Sully!Owain, Tharja!Inigo, and Tharja!Brady won't inherit classes from their second moms, as can be seen here.

This doesn't really matter for Morgan, but it does for the other kids. :/ I'll leave the original file up so that people could help me figure out why adding reclass options makes the game freeze, if they wanted to.

Also, unrelated, it seems that the game doesn't recognize the children of female partners as siblings. You can see here that Maribelle!Owain and Lissa!Brady can still S Support each other. Ew.

Yes, it was a different ROM hack.
Thanks a lot for the FF5 translation.
It was one of the games I enjoyed the most in the SNES era.

...with exception of that untranslated text in the ending

(Probably it was fixed afterwards, I remember playing it around 1997-1999 or so)

I wonder, what does the mystery pointer do?

We could possibly mess around with it and see if this somehow allows us to add more support convos, otherwise this may be a value that could be possibly stored in another file within the same directory.

Also, I don't have a Serene's Forest account, but Nightmare seems to have messed up on the skills I chose to edit for Chrom, I chose this;

I actually don't know what the mystery pointer does, either, so that's definitely something to look into in the future. It's also very interesting that Character Editor messed up Chrom's skills-- perhaps that indicates a potential problem in the program itself (which would explain a lot of the freezing problems I've had). I'll experiment with this more when I get the chance.

Finally, I'm curious, did you load up the file with Chrom x Maribelle while my hack (which removed that pairing) was running? Or did you load it with your own hack/without any edits?

I actually extracted my own static.bin.lz and made some edits just to test the waters and see how successful things would be, as far as pairings go they're all unedited.

I'll mess around with the mystery pointer and document any interesting results, I'll also give yours a try and see how this pairing is affected.

Edit:

Ok so, I repacked the romfs with your static.bin, and loaded up my save with the ChromxMaribelle marriage and got some funny results.

The marriage seems to have been completely nullified entirely;

But the kids themselves where completely unaffected somehow

I'll poke around some more.

Edit 2:

20 Seeds of Trust later and Chrom still can't S Support Cordelia, looks like the game somehow still recognizes the fact that Chrom is married even though it doesn't show him as being married.

I guess Maribelle finally left Chrom for Lissa! But in all seriousness, that's pretty bizarre. I really appreciate you playing around with Character Editor yourself, because I've been a bit too busy to the last few days (and will probably still not have much time in the coming weeks, since I'm entering finals season). :/
