Hi guys Im just about to upgrade from an old 3DS to a new3DSXL. Its from the store. SO I would assume the firmware is under 9.2. I have gateway but do not have Cubic Ninja or OoT. I didnt need them for the old 3DS as I use the web exploit. I have the blue and red cartridge. I plan on using that VRAM editor thing and making it to I can load the exploit using the DS settings.

So long story short. Do I ABSOLUTELY have to get Cubic Ninja or OoT? Even though I already have a system with everything set up and a red and blue gateway card? What about all of these new HAX? Tube and iron and stuff?

So you're buying a new 3DS to replace your old 3DS? Your assumption regarding the new 3DS having firmware 9.2 below may not be true. People shop for exploitable 3ds according to serial number. See here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-xl-firmware-by-version-number.381479.
If you have a new 3ds with firmware between 9.0 and 9.2, I think you'll be ok without Cubic Ninja because there are guides here that show you how to do this without Cubin Ninja and OOT. Here's one of them: https://gbatemp.net/threads/rxtools...rom-browserhax-homemenuhax-to-rxtools.398420/

Good luck finding a NIB n3ds XL on low firmware. I've checked a few stores...None of the easy places like walmart or gamestop have old 3ds units on low firmware. I wonder where they all went? ;)

I got sick of all the waiting and major GW CFW hassles and just got a used n3ds on 9.7 firmware and a sky3ds for about the price of one new at Walmart. All the same, I'm not selling my low firmware o3ds just yet: rxtools, NTR-3.0, and sky3ds make a convenient gamesave backup/transfer system.

Yeah... I've been hunting too. Apparently GameStop had such problems with serial checking they now claim "store policy" if you ask. So uhh... Yeah. Good luck. I would wait until GW decides to get off the butts and improve GW compatibility on N3DSXL.

How is compatibility on n3ds? I heard something about having to open/close to fix some 3D problem but that sounded pretty minor. Are there other issues? I mean, besides the initial annoyance of OOT- / ninj- hax to get the entry point installed.

The ol' IPS display vs TN display excuse worked fine for me a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, none of the local retailers I checked had any compatible consoles. After some trouble with PayPal and shipping addresses, I finally managed to get a 9.0 sysNAND Majora's Mask Edition console from eBay.

It depends on retailers... I had one guy check and all he had was qw106x's. I also checked the electronics department I work at and most were qw110x and a random qw4045. So eBay is your best bet unless you go to that well forgotten gamestopthat might have old stock. My old GameStop store the guys were really great and actually helped me find local back stock. So it comes down to knowing the highest serial # and below. I think it's qw105x and below which have 9.2 or lower. But most stores have cycled through their stock already... So most will be 10.x already. Might get luck and find a 9.5 but still...

I took a gamble over the last month and a half, buying 3 N3DS (3 separate purchases); all were fw 9.0. I bought them from B&H Photos in NY. My logic was (1) They're more known for photo equipment than gaming systems therefore they must have old stuff in stock (2) I also bought the butt-ugly red ones, which supposedly, nobody wants. :)
Like I said, it was a gamble, so there were tense moments just before opening these packages. Guess I got lucky. Gonna use these as gifts for the coming holidays.
