Okay so it seems that google code is shutting down for good

http://google-opensource.blogspot.com/2015/03/farewell-to-google-code.html

i tried posting this information at the bottom of the homebrew channel page [http://wiibrew.org/w/index.php?title=Homebrew_Channel&oldid=104325]
on the wiibrew website to inform other users and
each time i've done so Tueidj has deleted my posts from the bottom of the homebrew channel page
even though it's not harming anyone
and i have no way of adding it elsewhere to the wiibrew website
or i don't know of any other place to add it to the wiibrew website
honestly it's getting on my nerves as i'm only trying to help and i feel my efforts are in vein

what's gonna end up happening if nothing is done
is a lot of the homebrew apps are gonna disappear off the face of the earth
either because hardly anyone is getting informed or because some of the users haven't ported over their homebrew apps to other sites,

honestly i could use a lot of help
to inform some of the homebrew users that still host their projects on google code
or at least some help to get some of those projects ported over to github or some other place,
any thoughts or opinions on the matter are greatly appreciated,
Thank You.

PS:if anyone has a petition for google code i would love to see a link for it
thanks in advance.

Is there a way to differenciate the homebrew pages in google code that have been "saved" somewhere else and the ones that are not?
I don't think so,not unless you do cross referencing which is a big waste of time,if only it were made easier.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Open up a GitHub account and...

Start exporting each one of those apps from Google Code to GitHub.
It's the only way to keep them all safe.
Update.... Turns out I was able to export to github,I had to verify the Github account through my email and forgot to do that.
I'm in the process of archiving a project at the moment
My username on github is wiihomebrewarchive
I'll be processing more projects soon, right now I'm processing Nintendon-t.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

If anyone has a list of projects on google code that need to be archived send me a reply and I'll get on it.
Here's my username on github
[wiihomebrewarchive]
like I said though send me a reply if I miss anything and I'll get right onto it.

if anyone doesn't want me to archive their project just send me a message and i'll take it down,
after all i'm just trying to do what i can to keep wii homebrew
archived for others to find
in the future but if it goes against the wishes of
the owner of the projects then i'll comply as best as possible,
after all i'm not trying to cause any problems.

I'm unable to find Wiihomebrewarchive in GitHub, although I've been checking Github with the google code search "wii homebrew" and pretty much everything is already on GitHub, besides some dead projects or things that are obsolete.

EDIT: Holy crap, I wrote "Cheeking" instead of "Checking". My english level is at Master now. I only need to swap than with then and i'll be a GOD OF GRAMMAR.

errr...Is'nt this for the devs themselves? Making sure their data is stored in an accessable place?
I mean who made you responsable for their data?
Is'nt the "real"problem the fact you could not edit/add the content on Wiibrew?
Im sure the authors have personal backups.
To me it feels you are "pushing" the authors to acknowledge your contributions a bit...
At least let them know before hand moving these projects over, I mean in a personal way not via these sort of fora like gba temp. That's what I would do to be honest.
Who knows maybe they allready have their data sorted? No need to "bring owls to Athens" or "reinvent the wheel"....
It could save you alot of work, instead of your work being obsolete.

...Well, don't be so harsh. I understand wanting to save things in case, even more when Google is being rather quiet with this.

I've scrolled through 10+ pages of Google code and around 80% of the stuff is in Github. There are old homebrews that haven't made it yet (2010/11 things) and other projects have their own blogs or sites.

sorry about the late reply here's the page

https://github.com/wiihomebrewarchive

got any links to the old homebrew?

sorry but i'm confused???
i'm not pushing anyone to acknowledge any contributions
as i haven't done any contributions so far,
what are these contributions you're referring to?,
unless you're referring to the whole exporting deal
i don't really see it as a contribution i see it more as a way to preserve the projects like what archive.org does with websites
also on another note i would contribute to some of the homebrew currently available
if i had any programming knowledge,
problem is i lack the math skills,
i was only trying to inform people about google code shutting down
that is until Tueidj decided to remove the small edit i made to the bottom of homebrew channel page
and like i said before it wasn't harming anything and it was even out of the way
i just don't see why it bothered Tueidj
i would send him a message explaining the importance of the edit i made
however i don't see an option for that on the wiibrew website.

as for the whole github thing i was mainly following ShadowOne333's advice
since he mentioned creating a github account and i didn't have one before that,
i was gonna see about contacting the authors and getting them to port over their projects to github or sourceforge but i would
need to know where to contact them
which is a lengthy process if some are not online anymore
also some of the authors hard drives crash from time to time without a backup.

What I did was just make a search and just check if they were in GitHub... As I said most of the relevant ones are.

But for example, why would we want to preserve "Wiidoubledown" when "WiiCasino" is a more updated and complete version of it, or some projects have already a site, thus not needing to export the projects to GitHub.

...Then we have things like Biblequiz or WiiMetronome.

i could think of two projects that aren't on github
Wii64
and WiiSX
unless you count the mods then yeah,
someone please get ahold of emukidid before i export them to github,
i want to at least make sure it's okay to export those.
