How to use Loadiine for Noobies

Edit: I completely revamped this guide so it is completely up to date! Now it's split into three different videos.

This will probably be the most straightforward and noob friendly tutorial out there showing even the technologically challenged how to use Loadiine to play Wii U backups. Anybody who follows along should be able to get it eventually!

To get the most of the experience you may need to watch the videos on YouTube because I do have annotations clarifying some things and the descriptions are very helpful but watching it here is also acceptable.

Part 1: Extracting .wud files

Part 2: Setting up the SD card and loading backups

Part 3: Updating your Loadiine games

Here's a playlist with all three videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLo59pBvZG2_nbarZS66CtDJNzg6-wx6HA

Nicely done. This will help many users. : )

Why did you use DiscU and not WizardU (Which seems more noob proof)? Can this encrypt other things or more things? Hyrule Warriors does not let itself extract correctly when I use WizardU for example and I don't know how to fix this.

I used DiscU basically because it was the one that I already had downloaded. WizardU does look more user friendly but they do the same job. Try to extract Hyrule Warriors with DiscU and see if that helps. But I think I read that there are some issues with Hyrule Warriors.

Thanks for this video and tutorial, I know it will help many including myself. I ran into a few area's I was not quite sure on, this video cleared it right up!

@Ericzander
Save games weren't working for me after following this guide, after reading through the readme again it says the save folder on the root should be _SAV. Your video has it to make _save folder. Do both work and I did it wrong the first time? After I changed the folder to _SAV it worked for me!

Note, I'm using the eshop smash bros. Not disc. Don't know if it might make a difference or not

When using OpenDNS to block update servers. when the trial is up will it stop blocking those domains that I input. im on 5.3.2 and I'm going to give loadiine a shot just but im curious about the "Trail" part of OpenDNS if the subscription isnt that much ill do it but is there a free alternative or does the trail not affect it? once I block it are they blocked for good. thanks for the feedback in advance. and thanks for the video this is what I've been waiting for to move forward and give this a try I'm just cautious because i don't want my Wiiu updating.

Thanks for that catch. No it doesn't work for both. It needs to be _SAV. I will correct that in the video.

Is a specific SD Card type required? Does it install anything to the console? Is there a chance of bricking the WiiU? Is it possible to make your own backups of games? Generally speaking, how big are WiiU games? Is there a way to cut down there size like how you could trim and compress Wii games? On your game compatibility list, why do some games crash when connecting to a server? Would they work if you could block their servers too? Why do servers have to be blocked at all? Is this a permanent thing? Can I ever use mii maker again? Can a USB stick be used rather than an SD card?

1. If the SD card works with the Wii U it should work with Loadiine. There might be a file size limit, I don't know. Mine was 32gb.
2. No.
3. No. At most it'll freeze your console but a hard reset will fix it back to normal.
4. There are ways to back them up but I'm not sure of how. I think TCPGecko.
5. The ISOs are like 22gb to download but the files you put on the SD card are much smaller. SM3DW was 1.56gb.
6. This method is cutting down the size.
7. It's not my compatibility list and I'm not sure why some games don't work. They may in the future.
8. I don't know.
9. The servers have to be blocked so that you don't accidentally update your system's firmware to 5.5.
10. This isn't permanent.
11. Yes you can use Mii maker after resetting your Wii U.
12. At this time only an SD card works.

Nice job on the vid, very noob friendly. I'm gonna start experimenting with that as soon as I receive my copy of Smash Bros. Here's hoping the games will get re-uploaded to the usual places in their scrubbed form. Downloading 22GB of data to eventually just use 1.5 GB on the SD card is not my idea of time well spent or bandwidth well used. I know purists prefer the full isos, but I can live with a good scrubbed release.:P

What is the success rate of the kernel exploit? I swear I must've tried at least 30 times now and it froze every single time. Is there something else that needs to be done first other than just being on 5.3.2?

I've tried both self-hosting with mongoose and eclipsesin.github.io

Try deleting the cookies. With self hosting, make sure incoming and outgoing connections are allowed for mongoose in your firewall.

At first I was having issues getting the exploit to work but then I went to the internet browser, went to eclipsesin.github.io, and then restarted the Wii U. So when I turned it on it was the first page to appear when I open the browser. I tried again and it only took me 3 tries (I got Race Attack Failed twice, which means that you need to go into system setting and retry).
