Hacking I just bought a 9.0.0-20E New 3DS XL, is rxtools the right choice for it?

I might have been accessing it through pasta, I'm not sure. I was just following the guide. I have emunand, but now I don't have dev menu in either sysnand or in emunand. Is there any way I can just start from scratch? I'm feeling thoroughly confused about how to get dev menu on emunand. I tried installing dev menu through FBI through cubic ninja on emunand, but it comes up with an error.

Ninjhax > Pasta (or Reinand booting while holding B) > Ninjhax > FBI > Devmenu - Confirm you have Devmenu in Sysnand > Format Emunand > Boot Emunand and confirm you have Devmenu > Unlink if you don't want to deal with unwrap bug.

I install dev menu and when I go to sysnand an app pops up for a second (dev menu?) but then disappears.

Hmm, I went to reinstall it and it said it's already installed. I zoom out and can't see it anywhere. I can see it on the SD card on my computer.

Alright, worth a shot. Someone else had the disappearing app problem and that was the solution lol.

Format Sysnand with mSD left inside > Data Management (To rebuild the dbs, if it can't you may need to recreate the dbs folder & two files then go into management to rebuild) > CN > Ninjhax > Pasta or ReiSysnand [ B ] > Ninjhax > FBI > Devmenu after that.

The same thing happens, an app tries to pop up but disappears. Should I be installing dev menu to sd or sysnand?

Try deleting the dbs folder > recreating along with its two files > data management to rebuild the files > reinstall devmenu.

I formated sysnand in system settings. To SD wouldn't work so I tried sysnand earlier, that might be what is trying to appear. I deleted the dbs folder, recreated it with the two files.

When I try to install it to sd it says:

Install failed!
Devmeny.cia
Could not install app.
Modile: MODULE_NN_AM (0x20)
Level: LEVEL_STATUS (0x19)
Summary: SUMMARY_INVALID_STATE (0x5)
Description: DESCRIPTION_DATABASE_DPES NOT EXIST (0x2... (this bit is cut off)

Press start to continue.

That's the error when you're missing the title.db and import.db files. Are you sure you put them in the right place? It should be Nintendo 3DS/ID/ID/dbs. If you've been formatting your sysnand, you might have more than one folder under Nintendo 3DS. Also, don't forget to open up settings and clicking data management, then 3ds to format the db files.

Eh.. You don't want to install stuff to Nand (only the Mset the one time).

Did you name the files inside dbs title.db & import.db then go into Data Management to have the 3DS correct the files?

Yes I did that. Though there are two id folders, I might have put them in the old emunand folder. I'll copy the dbs folder to the other id folder. This time going to data settings said it was corrupt and asked me to fix (so I must have put the db folder in the wrong folder in the first place!). Okay now I'll go CN, Pasta, CN, FBI, then install devmenu to sd. This time it installed.

Now when I go to sysnand there are two apps that try to appear for a second and then disappear.

Also what should I do about the dev menu I installed to sysnand?

You won't see the apps on sysnand, but if you launch pasta again, you should see devmenu. Also, boot into emunand, you should see devmenu there too.

You'd have to uninstall Devmenus Title ID from the Nand.
BUT if you accidently uninstalled the wrong Title ID, it'd brick your N3DS and you'd need to hardmod.

Apps show up in Sysnand with or without cfw.
Somethings going wrong, messing around with my DS atm.

Okay, so going CN > Pasta makes dev menu appear. I unwrapped it.

Going to emunand I don't see dev menu. Dev menu is in sysnand but not emunand. I need to reformat emunand in gateway menu right?

So it's safer just to leave the dev menu in sysnand, even though it doesn't show up?

Reformat, when you're done and you turn off the system and boot back into Sysnand, does Devmenu still appear?
Maybe you must unwrap Devmenu from cfw before it'll appear in Sysnand by itself? x_x

Edit: If you go into FBI [R] twice to Delete Title > [L] once to NAND > you can see if it'll list Devmenu by name (it does from the SD) *Again, be very careful if you do this though*

Alright... I was able to recreate the disappearing Devmenu nonsense.

If you turn off the 3DS then turn it back (Like I suggested) on without relaunching a Sysnand cfw and unwrapping the installed app first, then it'll disappear until you launch a Sysnand cfw & unwrap it. -_-

So I reformated emunand with gateway menu. Restart back into sysnand, dev menu is not there anymore. Trying to get into emunand through dsprofile doesn't work either, it crashes. Trying to get into homebrew menu with cubic ninja doesn't work either, it says:

FATAL ERROR
failed to open sd:/boot.3dsx. does it exist? c8804478

I don't even want to try and guess what I should do now.

I just saw your edit. I think that's probably what I did. I'll still wait to be told what to do here.

So............
You're going to be a little displeased with this news.

I forgot to mention that you need to backup the SD cards contents to your computer > Format emunand > Copy everything back over.
