I have an Xbox 360 elite I found in An old storage unit, it's not modded as far as I know. And an Xbox 360 arcade I found for $10 at the flea market a while ago. I wanted to sell the arcade since its in such good condition and I already had a better Xbox, but I decided to search the hard drive. I found 3 games downloaded, the only one I can remember Is portal. I copied them onto a usb hard drive that I used with my elite. I unplugged it and moved it onto my elite and I was able to play the game, on both xbox's, at the same time. So can I just download any set of files for a downloadable game and play it on my Xbox for free?

No it is not that easy.

Assuming you have not accidentally found a hacked xbox it sounds like you are doing a slight variation on the theme of profile swap for so called GOD (games on demand, hence names for hacking tools like iso2god) installs.

To do what you describe these days you will need a JTAG/SMC/RGH style mod on your 360s. I am not sure what goes right now but you will probably not get the "downloadable game" version as much as the standard iso and extract it (or convert it to a GOD install with tools like the aforementioned iso2god).

Also what versions of motherboard are in on your 360s? http://team-xecuter.com/forums/thre...erboard-Identification-Chart-Updated-Dec-2011 if you need a chart. These days most would suggest you have a Jasper or nothing for original style/phat 360s, any slim should do.

I have a jasper. I can upload a video of me doing it with another game. Is there anyway I can tell if I have a nodded Xbox?

Open the case and see all the new wires and soldering is the surefire method and will even tell you what type of mod it is (basic components = probably JTAG, some custom chip probably sitting on top of the video ports at the back = RGH of some form). If you can pull off one of the grey side panels then a few seconds with a decent torch should reveal wires that should not be there as well but if you do not know quite what you are looking for then maybe not.

Depending upon the mod then there could be other options. What does booting by pressing the eject button do? If you see something called xell(ous) then it is modded.
Less easy is some of the older RGH mods took their time to boot (it relied on a hack that did not work every time and would blackscreen until it did), however Jasper and some of the newer chips took far less time.

Falcons on RGH1 are pretty much always instaboot.
Atleast, mine is.
And that's with a 1st generation chip.
Jaspers take their time, just Slims.

Generally, on non-modded hardware, an xbla game transfered from one xbox to another will only run as the trial version (unless the target machine already had that title 'unlocked' on it).
So even if the full game was transferred, only the trial would be playable?

I'll try when I get home.

Gah got my RGH boot times list muddled up. Ignore what I said and I might see about finding a better one (I have no idea what goes for the various slims for instance).

On XBLA... consider it a yes to the trial thing. There are some older methods like profile sharing which was already alluded to, LIVE2CON which did not do an awful lot and whatever that modern warfare 2 glitch was about. All three are basically no more though. If you have a JTAG/RGH modded xbox then as each XBLA title is the full game it is trivial, however such a thing is still going to be a demo (if it boots at all) on a stock/DVD modded 360.

Speaking of DLC there is also PIRS DLC which was stuff often bundled with various game of the year games (various elder scrolls/fallout titles, some borderlands stuff and a few other reasonably notable things). These can be installed by anybody.

Oh yeah as they have not been mentioned DVD mods were and possibly still are the dominant method of playing copied games on the 360. Traditionally it involved reflashing the DVD drive with a custom firmware and burning games to DVD, said flashing got harder with time and there are other methods like optical drive emulators. They did not allow hacked games, homebrew, DLC/XBLA install, out of region locking (region locking is a thing on the 360 but it is not total like the wii, hence NFOs/release listers like http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=6 mentioning the regions a release will work on if they are known).

He could simply throw XeX menu on a flash drive and see if it will run on his console as well. It will probably be one of the easiest ways besides xell.
