Finally got the plugin to load, and loaded a simple edit, but I need to change the text size as it is too big lol:

If you are serious about making a translation you may want to start a proper thread. (One not lead by, the now banned, DJPlayer)

Nice work, lately, I have been doing some 3DS research in order to understand better the scene (they helped me a lot) so I want to contribute too. And I'm so interested to start by researching 3DS file formats!, so I'll look into this and see what comes from this, If I got something or anything I'll let you know.lso, since I got my NTR 3.0 working, I'll be pleased to test the translation progress or editing GUI/text files.

Yeah, I already downloaded them, and it seems there are already some tools for another Capcom games, but them don't have any source. analyzing the files with a Hex editor shows very interesting info, so it shouldn't be that hard to enconde something to unpack the files into a readable format for image editors.

Someone who has better knowledge about this is @Team Fail if I remember well, he has some skills to figure out hex values.

I may be able to look if I can get a copy of the decrypted files, but I'm reinstalling Windows right now so I don't have any of my tools ready to go yet.
Whenever you have the time and opportunity is alright, here is the romfs. (I deleted the bgm and most of the movies because of the size)
What we really interested in are the .ark and .tex files (maybe .gui files?), so we could translate the gui or find the "hidden" text files, that contains the text of the menu and the names/descriptions of the items and characters.
And thank you in advance!

Hmm... i wonder why djplayer was banned.... oh well no biggie. Great looking progress so far. Hope we see this done in the next month or so.

Well I'm having a hard time figuring out the format, it seems to be compressed diferently from another games, it would be helpfull if such programs had source codes damn LEL.

I'm done for today, tomorrow I0ll continue my research.

Any updates on this? I wish I knew Japanese to translate this, as it doesn't seem like Capcom will be localizing it anytime soon.

Hello, i am read all, and i can see that this game use the "same" files than gyakuten saiban 5, but looks like the gmd files are not xored, the files for items, menu, etc.

Should be in .arc in Archives in common_msg or something like that, there should be what u are seraching, if u find any xored file u can use this.

Yeah, I'm afraid the evidence and profile names/descriptions are in image files or in arc files, which are quite essential to the game. I have an idea for a workaround, but that's only good for certain evidences.

To help out, I wrote a quick Python script to unpack the .arc files. There's still a few things I don't understand about the format, so I haven't been able to write a repacker just yet but you may still find it useful in the meantime:

You are AWESOME! Your script is perfect, I found a lot of scripts in the 'msg_cmn_jpn.arc' file, menu texts, evidence names, character names, etc.
If you can write the repack script too, than you are the BEST my dear friend!

Edit: I made a batch file, you can start it, than type in the name of the .arc file you want to be extracted or you can drag 'n drop the arc file (or multiple arc files) to the batch.
The python script needs to be named as 'arc.py' (if you don't know how to modify the batch)

Hi. I've just created an account to reply to this since I'm a big Ace Attorney fans.
If someone can come up with a way to extract the text, I can help with the translation. I'm just a bit lazy to mess with CFW and ROMs.

I'm in the middle of chapter 3 and the Japanese is actually not too difficult (easier than general newspaper articles) except for a few parts like
a haiku spewing guys.
I'll probably try finishing before actually start translating to get a better idea of the game.

Can also help with picture editing too :)

I tried unpacking and repacking a few .arc files and most of them came out identical. The ones that differed, I assume, did so because a different compression level was used, but i don't think it should cause any problems.

Don't try and repack anything you got from the old script, I was stupidly not writing the files in binary mode, so they were coming out partially corrupt and the wrong size. Also the game seems to care about preserving the file order within the archives so I had to make sure to note that down during unpack.

There's better argument parsing too, so you should just be able to drag and drop .arc files or extracted directories onto the scripts and have it work now.

Also a very WIP .tex converter if anyone's interested:
