Hi everyone,

I was trying to play some Wii channels from my HDD using WiiFlow, and some of them were not working (Aha! I Found It! Hidden Object Game (PAL) for example). So I decided to run some tests on my Wii to see what was wrong. I ran sysCheck 2.1.0 beta19 and PimpMyWii 3.03. which are both the newest versions of each other. sysCheck didn't say that there were any problems with my Wii, but PimpMyWii said:

Old cIOS249 found (d2x 56 v6 rev6 instead of d2x rev10).
----
Old cIOS251 found (d2x 58 v6 rev6 instead of d2x rev10).

I've read that some people don't recommend using PMW because it's old and outdated, but I feel like it's trying to tell me something. Should I update this stuff? If so, can you give me some links and tell me what to do?

Thanks,
SuperMew98

You should verify your syscheck.csv file with a program called "ModMii". It'll view your file, find which IOS's and cIOS's need updating, and ask you if you'd like to download the most current versions. After it downloads the most current versions for you it'll generate a tutorial on how to get those new IOS's/cIOS's installed.

Thanks for the reply, but do you have any other suggestions? ModMii wants me to completely reinstall HBC, which I only need to update those cIOSes.

P.S. I added my sysCheck.csv in case you needed it.

Yeah. It's kind of like a default tutorial for anyone who downloads cIOS's off of ModMii. If it's telling you to install the cIOS's first, then HBC second, you should be fine.

Read through Step 2 again. It should look something like this.....
----
"In the HomeBrew Channel, hit the "home" button. In the top right corner you will see the IOS used by the HBC.
If the HBC is using IOS58 and your HBC is not upside-down, you can skip this step.

If the HBC is not using IOS58 or it is upside-down, you should continue with this step to reinstall it."
----

If IOS58 is one of IOS's that it wants you to update, then you're going to need to reinstall HBC.

Whoops, I missed that part, sorry

So, just to clarify, I should install all of this (even if I already have some of them installed?):

And can I install them using WADManager instead of MultiModManager?

And can I install them using WADManager instead of MultiModManager?

I honestly prefer WADManager over MMM in most cases, but when it comes to times like these where I have to update core IOS's I always go with MMM.

It's probably just me being supersticious. Because when I use WADManager I choose a cIOS to install my cIOS's and wads. But I don't like using a wad manager that loads a cIOS to install core IOS's. And to be honest, I don't even know if it matters. I'd just rather err on the side of caution. MMM and WiiMod both load up using IOS58, and they don't ask you to load any other IOS/cIOS's.

So to be completely honest, I'm not 100% sure if it matters or not. But it's now become habit of mine, and I've never encountered any problems with any of my IOS/cIOS installs to date.

So I installed everything through MMM, and PimpMyWii complains to me even more than before.

But that doesn't matter to me as much if everything else works.

And does it? Well, so far it does. I was able to load Aha! I Got It! Hidden Object Game (PAL) perfectly without any flaws, and also Riivolution disc patching, WBFS loading through WiiFlow, and the Homebrew I've tested works great (the others had worked just fine before, but PMW said that some of that stuff wouldn't work, which is false).

I haven't tested if DIOS MIOS and Nintendont are working or not, but they probably are.

Anyway, thank you portugeek for your help! :yaywii:

You're welcome :)

Also.. I just noticed this...
So, just to clarify, I should install all of this (even if I already have some of them installed?):
..and Yes, you should install them all. Especially the IOS's. The cIOS's are more user preference than anything. I mean, you definitely need cIOS's installed to get homebrew to work. But each piece of homebrew only ever needs to load one cIOS to function properly. The reason you have 8 of them is because each one can offer slightly different functionality. And every time you load up a piece of homebrew, it calls for which ever slot it was originally programmed to call. So if you have an outdated cIOS installed in that slot, the homebrew may not function properly.

Most of the popular and up to date homebrew we use today call for slot 249 when they start up. So if you have an outdated cIOS installed in that slot it can lead to incompatibility issues.

Ok, I see. Thanks for clarifying that! ;)

Also, this is kinda off-topic, but when you said 249 it reminded me: Would it be a good/safe idea to install WiiWare/VC WADs to my EmuNAND using WADManager? I've gotten them to work fine using ShowMiiNand to install them to an extracted NAND dump, but it's kind of a pain to do it on a computer. I know WADManager allows you to install WADs there when you select 249 in the beginning, so it must be possible, but I don't know if it would be a good idea. What would you say?

WADManager, MMM, and WiiMod, ONLY install wads to the REAL nand. So NO, it's a very bad idea.

ShowMiiWads is what you want to use to install WiiWare/VC WADs to EmuNAND.

You can also use Neek. It allows you to boot into your EmuNAND, kind of like placing you inside of a virtual Wii. While inside your EmuNAND you can use a version of WADManager (that's tailored specifically for Neek) to install your VC wads. But you would want to install a wad called Snort48+ to your EmuNAND first because without it you can experience errors and freezing once you install more than 48 wads.

USB Loader GX also installs wads into your EmuNAND. But you have to make sure you've correctly configured your paths in USBLGX's settings. You need to tell USBLGX exactly what path your EmuNAND is on so that it knows where to install the wads to.

I would say go with ShowMiiWads first. It's easy, and perhaps time consuming, but also the safest. Next I'd recommend USBLGX, as long as you configure it correctly, it should be pretty seemless. I've actually never used USBLGX to install wads so I don't know how fast, or time consuming it can be. But Cyan keeps his app on point, and I have faith in it's reliability. Lastly, I'd recommend Neek. It's not that Neek is bad at what it does. It's actually pretty cool, and if you can get it running, it can emulate things near perfect. But trying to get it setup correctly and running, can be a huge headache.

Ok, I'll probably just stick with ShowMiiWads. Using neek wouldn't help me much, as I already have ~50 something WADs installed already, but USBLGX sounds like a good idea, too. I didn't know it could install WADs to EmuNAND.

I have just one more question (I'm sorry, this is the last one.)

Is it possible to install DLC to EmuNAND? I have Final Fantasy IV: The After Years installed on my EmuNAND, and I saw that there was DLC that you could get for the game. I also found a WAD of the DLC, which when I installed it, it didn't work. Am I doing something wrong? Or is this a bug in WiiFlow (which is what I'm running my EmuNAND with)?

If you ever wanted to use Neek, it's not too late to install "Snort48+" into your EmuNAND. You just have to use ShowMiiWads to do it.

Your EmuNAND functions just fine with more than 48 wads installed. It's only becomes problematic when you try to load into your EmuNAND using Neek. This is because the REAL Wii only allows for 48 channels to be installed on the NAND. And when you load into your EmuNAND with Neek, it's like booting up a virtual Wii. So when this virtual Wii detects more than 48 wads installed, but not enough channels to put them in, it essentially flips out.

Installing Snort48+ fixes this because it removes the 48 channel limit. So now when virtual Wii detects all of the installed wads, it doesn't have a virtual panic attack because now it's confident that is has enough channels for everything.

Yes, but I'm not familiar enough with WiiFlow to guide you through it.

Essentially what you need to do is go into that specific games individual settings and tell it to use "Full" NAND Emulation. There should also be an option where you can point to your EmuNAND path, that way the game knows where to look to find the EmuNAND. Once that's set up, the game will start using the EmuNAND (instead of the Real Nand) for everything memory related. It'll see the DLC installed in the EmuNAND and just assume that it's DLC you've installed in your real Nand.

If there's an option to download the DLC from within the game, you might still need to do that to get it to work. It's kind of like asking the game to search for DLC, and when it does it'll be like... "Hey, you have some DLC already installed in your memory, would you like to load that?" I'm not 100% sure on that though. I don't have this game, and not every game treats their DLC the same way.

Sorry, I got confused for a moment there. I'll try installing Neek and Snort48+.

...tell it to use "Full" NAND Emulation...
I was using "Partial" before, but NOW everything's working!

Once again, thank you so much, portugeek!

You're welcome. :)

You don't have to use Neek to play your EmuNAND games. It's just another option.

The only time you might want Neek is when you start experiencing compatibility issues during gameplay. Since the Neek environment allows games to run near flawless.

Would I have to use Neek if, for example, I play Mario Kart Wii and install the channel?
I've never installed individual game channels so I'm not 100% sure how that works. I've seen people install them on the real Nand, so I know that you don't need Neek for it. But if I were to install individual game channels, I would use Neek. Simply because it gives you a safe environment in which to install channel wads that could potentially harm your Wii.
