Hello,

I am going to take a trip down memory lane and purchase a DSi XL. Probably a green one. There's a lot of DS games which I played and want to replay, and some which I just plain missed out on.

Problem is when it comes to buying games, there's no digital option, and some of the ones I want to play are quite rare, barely even printed in the PAL region.

For games which I find hard to come by, or prohibitively expensive, I would like to be able to download and play them using a flash card. I understand that they're technically illegal in the UK but I don't care, I will only use it to play out of print games which cannot be purchased anymore for a newer platform. I've got morals, you know!

--

The choice of flash cards is daunting, and the choice of places to buy them from is daunting too, most of them look incredibly dodgy.

I would like a card with a slick interface for choosing games which I can boot straight into and get going fast. I don't need extra features, I don't need a media player, I don't need GBA or SNES emulation, I just need a card which plays DS games at full speed and handles saves correctly with a low risk of corruption. I would also like the option to jump straight into a certain game until a key combination is held at launch, which I was able to do when I had an Acekard 2i many years ago.

Also I would like a card which is compatible with the most recent DSi XL firmware. I assume that they are no longer updating the DSi firmware? I understand that Nintendo WFC has been shut down, but the DSiware store is still open. Maybe i'd like to buy some things. Probably not!

--

So considering my rather simple use case of wanting to be able to play and switch between DS games on a DSi XL, what would be your recommended card?

And, considering I live in the UK (england), what would be your recommended store to purchase said card from?

Thanks so much for any advice you can give me, I've not been into this scene for some years.

An 'R4i Gold 3DS RTS' by R4ids.cn will do the job. I have one in my Dsi-XL and it works perfect. If you used AKAIO on your old Acekard, it's pretty much the same menu. Get the latest Wood Kernel for it here:

I have ordered a few of these cards from the following dealer to the UK without issue:
http://www.3dsgamerworld.com/r4i-gold-3ds-rts-for-3ds-3ds-xl-2ds-dsi-dsi-xl-p-2.html

These deliver to UK too:

Thanks for the advice, that looks good. I might get a microSD card with my order... 8GB perhaps? I know DS games aren't massive, i'd expect to be able to store about 16 on there? Maybe a smaller card... But it'd be nice to have my entire library with me! I better check that I don't already have a microSD card somewhere around.

Regarding the sites you listed, do you think it's safe to give them my credit card details? Entering them directly into the site seems a bit sketchy to me.

Your credit cards are protected from the issuer. I've used my credit card with both of those sellers without issue.
