Storm Lover Kai (PSP)
  • Japanese title: STORM LOVER 快!!
  • Official site: (Link)
  • Platform: PSP® (PlayStation®Portable)
  • Release date: June 7, 2012
  • Rate: Cero B (Suitable for gamers ages 12 and up)
English Translation Project
Credits:

  • Translation/Programming/Graphics: jjjewel
  • ASM hacking: thexyz
*This game needed a crazy amount of ASM hacking and the English translation is absolutely impossible without @thexyz's help.:wub:

*The game has a lot of parodies to Japanese culture (anime/music/commercials/etc.) and a lot of them will be lost in translation. Even for some that remains in the English translation, I'm not sure you will get them. I'm trying to write translation notes but I probably can't cover them all. So if you find some lines that need explanation, just let me know.

*This game is a remake of the original Storm Lover and they added more scripts to it. However, the scripts aren't that well-organized. You might find a lot of inconsistencies. I've fixed what I found but there might still be some left that I didn't notice or couldn't fix. If you notice anything odd, please let me know. If I can fix them, I will.

*I translated this game by myself and since English is not my native language, I really need your help to report any mistakes in the translation.

Regarding fan disk & sequel

- I have no plans to work on Storm Lover Natsu Koi or Storm Lover 2nd.
- With more and more commercial English translation of Japanese otome games coming to the West, after finishing Storm Lover Kai, I'll take a long break from making fan translation patches for otome games. Please support the localization companies and buy their games, so that they'll consider localizing more otome games for us. B-)

Looking at the VNDB entry for Storm Lover (Kai), it appears that there will be some story as well as simulation gameplay. Any thoughts on its story-to-gameplay ratio?

Thank you for all your work and persistence in translating niche video games. *If* you are able to continue to create fan translations for games which are not likely to be licensed, then consider which ones will be good choices. There are many options to consider:

* Computer games? Slightly old or vintage console games? Mobile games?
* Other romance pairings, or none at all?
* Story driven games, or ones which only need an interface translation?

A personal note: I'd like to see one of the first four Sakura Wars games in English during my lifetime... One person is working on a Windows version of game #1 as of March 2015, but it's not clear when or whether their project will be finished...

Later in 2015, Amnesia Memories, Norn9, and Code: Realize will all get commercial translations on Playstation Vita. Also, I expect that Mangagamer will release its English version of Ozmafia in the near future. In other words, this is a good year for fans who like romance games with girl x boy pairings.

If you need to move on to paid professional work, then I understand. A number of people from fan translation communities have had to segue into working with a company.

@gekiganwing, I have some videos for Storm Lover Kai when I tested the translation. You can take a look to get some idea. The game's more of an adventure game than a simulation game to me.
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJFPlYs9KxBLFjc_6EQuNQEGxM25O3e7S
(Note: I didn't aim for any specific routes so you don't get to see story development for the guys, but you should get a general idea of how the game feels like.)

For my future translation projects, I still don't know but as I've said so many times that my English isn't very good, I can't do professional work. I started translating games because people just didn't translate the games I wanted to play. But currently I don't see a point why I should work on more translation when there are commercial works available. ^_^

Thanks again jjjewel. You've given me something else to look forward to playing on my PSP:) I think you do an amazing job, especially since English is not your first language.

I edited the first post a bit. Actually, you don't need save files from Storm Lover to unlock special voices. (I got the info mixed up with another game. T_T) But you can transfer your save file from the original Storm Lover if you have already cleared some endings.

Currently I'm checking the scripts for mistakes (which I still found some here and there.) If there's no major problem, the patch should be released a little bit after the updated patch of Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 3. ^_^

I still found mistakes in some scripts so I'm still fixing them. Just wait a little bit for the patch.
(From the past releases, it seemed like not many people actually cared to download updated patch (T_T), so I'll try to make my the first version release as perfect as possible. ^_^)

If nothing's wrong, it should be released within a week. (I mean, if nothing's wrong. If I find something I need to fix, it might delay a bit.)

I made some funny mistakes which I'd feel so embarrassed to leave them in the patch. (Like, "Let's wash TV together." Spellchecker didn't catch it and I must've missed it when I did the first proofread. ^_^")

I'm attempting to fix bugs that are in the original Japanese game (which will remain in the translation patch unless we fix them.) @thexyz will help looking at these bugs around this weekend, so the patch won't be released until either we (more likely thexyz alone because I'm pretty useless when it comes to ASM hacking :P) can fix them or we decide that they can't be fixed.

I need help from people who have their own ISO of the game (Storm Lover Kai.)
Could you please check your MD5 hash of your ISO and post it here or PM me?

*I only need the MD5 value which has 32 characters code and looks similar to this;
95423C4B30902E0CA9DF683292BA5A98
Please do not post any links to download ISO.*

You can use the online MD5 Hash check here;
http://onlinemd5.com/

Or follow the guide here;
https://sites.google.com/site/otomeundercover/faqs#TOC-MD5-SHA-1-hash
(You can use any programs that can generate MD5 hash of your ISO.)

Thank you very much. :wub:

Okay, it's confirmed that there are at least 2 ISOs with different hash values. I'll see what I can do. I might have to make different patches for different ISOs.

If anyone has a different ISO with different hash value, please also let me know.

jjjewel, I made this account because I wanted to say thank you! Really though, thank you for all the hard work you've put into..including TGM patches. You have made my day brighten so many times. And good luck with everything else that you do after you finish the Storm Lover Kai project!

P.S. my MDS is also 0E0F51464C2CBDA75D331E49F17F2AB6
