Ok, I don't have time to play right now but I've run the game to check for any requirement to update. My UK WiiU was on 5.4.0E before I launched the game. When I launched it I got the 'preparing' message a few times, but I'm not sure what it was actually doing. I was not asked to update.

Edit - ahh, I've just read that there's an exploit for the WiiU now but it's not compatible with 5.4.0. So I'm guessing you're wanting to know if you can stay on a version prior to 5.4.0. I can't test that I'm afraid since I'm already on that version. Sorry!

Replaying these levels for the collectibles feels very enjoyable because you get to discover where they were hidden. So yeah, it's nowhere near as frustrating as collecting the gems in Sonic Lost World.

Have you ever considered why you are unemployed? And that drugs and alcohol may not be the wisest choices when you have extremely limited discretionary income?

I'm unemployed because I graduated without preparations for where the real jobs are. I originally had different job intentions, but changed my mind. So now I have to train on some skills and stuff to catch up to the level needed for my new desired job. My skills are science and education. Science is hard to find someone with the funding needed to pay you, that's why I'm not doing science for pay right now. I'm doing the science for free. Education, I've tried, but it pretty much requires a car, you have to drive to people's houses, or at least go to tutoring centers in the outer suburbs, and I don't drive. I've applied for ones that were close enough, but hey, there's a lot of people wanting to do that, so high competition. It goes to those with more experience.

I've cut way down on alcohol, yes. So yea, for now, I'm doing more sober gaming, but that doesn't change the main point for back when I had money. Some of the alcohol is actually leftover from when I had money. Stuff like Scotch and wine have piled up, can be drank for free now, since they were paid for already. Sometime we let people stay over at our house, and they sometimes give us alcohol as a present. Good deal, right? Doesn't cost anything.

weed, yes, I don't buy it anymore. That doesn't mean I can't have any, just less. I can get some from people who will give me a little. I can trade them stuff that I still have leftover for it. I have a small bottle of Johnnie Walker, extremely expensive. It was paid for years ago. I can drink that whenever I want, for free. Most of my alcohol for the next two months has already been paid for, it needs to be drank before moving. That's the advantage of having a collection, and not just drinking everything as you go along. At my poorest, I will be drinking my most expensive stuff, because that's all that will be left, and I couldn't afford to buy new cheap stuff. A bit ironic, isn't it? You can't save it forever, it needs to be drank sometime. If someone wants to trade me a bowl of weed for a glass of wine, fine by me. That last glass of wine isn't as good as that first glass anyways, the bottle will be finished either way.

So yea, cut way back for the time being, but it doesn't change my point about those kinds of games also being fun. I think staying in playing casual video games with people is just as fun as going out to the bar, talking to strangers, maybe trying to dance. It's also a lot cheaper. So I need to have casual friendly video games.

I loved weed but then I started to breed and had to stop that.

You could maybe have some when they are gone, send them on a sleep over weekend, or off to visit their grandparents. A couple times a year is better than nothing.

You know what I'd wish they would add to the game as DLC content? Kirby as a playable character because this was based previously on Kirby's Epic Yarn. At least we'd have a proper Kirby platforming game on the Wii U.

That Rainbow Curse/Paintbrush should have been released on the 3DS instead.

Right, got my copy on wednesday but held out for the muffy verdict whilst I played more:

First off, darn it's just too cute.... the visuals I can take (huge Epic Yarn fan here), but the music ugh, ends up giving me a headache!

Game itself is more challenging than Epic Yarn, but it's kind of a double edged sword really: beating the levels is usually a piece of piss, getting the collectibles, unlike Kirby, requires a couple of goes, and some are just too frustrating to find: this is not the clever locations of the giant coins in NSMB games, it just ends up annoying. Minor gripe in all though..

Gameplay is varied, but there's something missing here... When compared to Yoshi's Island on SNES it's just too safe and conservative.. now maybe we've been spoilt by the 16bit classic, and even the parts where it's recreating the same surprises it seems like it's too busy trying to look pretty to actually surprise you in the first place!

Long lasting? Well it's an easy game, aimed at kiddies, but trying to give veteran fans something to do - more challenging than Epic Yarn sure, but I can still go back to the Kirby game now (mainly Snow Land around xmas time, for obvious reasons!) - the levels on this just don't seem memorable enough..

These faults aside it's a good title, no doubt, but - enh: 6.5/10 (7 is too high, and 6 does sound a bit too harsh! )
It's leagues ahead of the shite we recently got on 3DS, but as many leagues BEHIND the classic we got on the SNES.

Currently I'm on World 2 of 2-7 still because as I go along I try to 100% every level than go back to them. The game's short so this makes it last longer.

By the way your safe on the update, anyone wondering this is not on 5.4.0 I can assure you, I have it and I'm still on 5.3.2. This game was packaged and ready for the shops way before 5.4.0 came out, it made sense really! ;)

Edit: its a fantastic game as well, one of the best so far along side MK8/SM3DWD and nice and cheap from Grainger Games shops @£32.00 to boot, if your from the West Midlands that is!. Best Yoshi game by far and the music is a treat to listen too :) also its cool just to play this on your main gamepad screen and not on the TV! its certainly a Ninti special, well worth the wait in my opinion!!!

Damn it I really want to buy it but Im afraid the update is needed to run it :(
Your OK dude, buy away, you wont regret it either, the purchase, trust me! :)

Edit: the games on FW5.3.2 to be exact. I meant to say, this is the euro version (UK) by the way not sure about your region package, sorry?

You paid £32? Typical of Grainger Games to overcharge.

I got it for £24.54 via GameSeek and it arrived on June 24.

I'm hoping that I can get Star Fox, Devil's Third, Xenoblade and others for a similar price. :P

Yeah I agree good price, if I had internet done it and looked around properly I could of got it cheaper but I could not be bothered with the wait just for a few extra quid on top. The shops only a matter of walking distance from my house :)

With the lack of Wii U games and this being the only decent game in six months' time, it's no surprise. Sure there is Splatoon but that game's overhyped and with lack of content to really make it have replay value.

Nintendo should be ashamed of charging $60 in US and $70 in Canada for something so incomplete.

I'm in World 3 and the tune that plays is so beautiful and yet, saddening. This is the type of song you'd listen to if someone you knew passed away.

It actually reminded me of Eric Clapton's 'Tears in Heaven'. Dammit Nintendo, I didn't sign up for this! :'(
