GameStop Now Selling "Retro" Games and Consoles

gamestop.png

Yep, you read that right, GameStop is now offering retro games and systems, both available in stores and online! At the moment, they have NES, SNES, N64, PS1, Genesis and even Dreamcast games up for sale, and at this time they also have PS1, SNES, and Genesis consoles up for sale as well, each under or about $40-$50.

You can find controllers and memory cards as well (though at this time some are either sold out or aren't available online), and the games range from popular titles such as Final Fantasy, all sorts of Mario games, Hey You! Pikachu with Microphone (so tempting to buy!), Spyro games, Crash Bandicoot games and much more, and their prices aren't even that bad, either! Most either match or are slightly above average eBay prices, making some of these purchases a real steal.

You can check out the retro stuff they offer in the source link below.

I ended up buying some PS1 games, to add on to my collection, and I imagine I'll be spending some more of my money on other retro games as well in the upcoming months!

I apologize on part of the 90s that they had to end.
Quite the opposite - in the 90s you were paying $40 for a game because it was THE HOT SHIT and it had just came out.

I was quite grateful when in the 00s those games were WAY past their prime and could be bought for $2.

But now, even more years later, it's somehow right paying $40 for a game which came out 20 years ago? What?

Why do I think this is going to be a disaster with minimum wage part-time workers not knowing how to set things up or care for 10, 20+ year old hardware which will inevitably end up on Gamestop's garbage tip?

Now about these retro games:
1. Do they come with their original box/case + manuals and other pamphlets?
2. Are they in good condition?

If it's on par with the shitty conditions of their used games then I'm not even going to bother.

The photos given for each game show whether the games have cases or not, but it doesn't mention manuals. Most of the cartridge based games looks like they don't have any original box or manual. So for collectors, this is probably a meh idea.

Neat. I missed NES and SNES a lot. They were the best video games every played in history and next was PSX and PS2. However, I rather save my money for motorcycle, car, and a house. Those games are now a memorized to me and will stay in the past. I am moving on. Therefore, I am still playingwith PS3 and its enough for me. Money wise. I want to enjoy the nature with my motorcycle and car and house. It is more important to me than apartment I am currently lived right now, really.

"Let's see... it's okay, I assure you that the game is working, no worries... I seem to remember my dad told me you had to spit in the cartridge like this to make it work... The black smoke and the electric sparks? Yeah, it's part of the thing"

All this talk about retro games makes me wonder what the market for PS3/Wii/360 games will be like in 20 years time? Buy now, hoard and sell them on later? I'm sure people will either go, "OH WOW, I REMEMBER THAT GAME" or, "That game sucks and you want $40+ because it's old? Hahahanope."

I personally think it's because there's a boom in retro games because of the whole, "hey, 80's are cool". I think prices will eventually settle which is why I tend to buy the retro games that I really want to play and not, "I MUST HAVE THIS SHITTY LICENSED NES GAME BECAUSE IT'S OLD".

I wouldn't trust a GameStop for pricing any day, but a lot of these older games can retain quite some value if there's a lot of demand for them and/or if they are rare and hard to find. Age doesn't have much to do with it.

You know what, a game store nearby that usually has old consoles and accessories doesn't even clean them at all, they're just put up all dirty and expect to sell 'em as is. Matter of fact, they do get sold but it just shows how much they don't care about the condition of the items they're being sold.

Anyway, the store is CeX. I've not bought a game from them in a year or so, except for PS1 and Original Xbox games.

I had pondered the same thing. I have to wonder if the nostalgia will temper the sales volume, and whether hardware based emulation will be a thing by this point. There are what 50 NES games that sold over a million worldwide, a million is not that much for a single region any more.

That said I am reliving the car boots that raulpica was on about with the PS360 right now. GTA5 on the 360 for £2 the other day.

I am surprised the N64 is rated so highly, at least in North America, though.

Fair in my book was when I was paying $2 for a game cartridge in a car boot. Not what the "market" wants me to pay for it now.

All this exposure is only going to make it worse - but it's just a fad, like the Cabbage Patch kids were. Give it 10 years, and this stuff will go back to cost $2.

You right about that ...because it will be a closing down sale!!!! ...in 10 years time there will be no GameStop, EB Games, or GAME ...because everything available for your home video game console will only be available as a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD, and to follow that ...the crash of the Video Games market!!!!
