Nintendo dont know how to or dont want the sky3ds so why we should do this? The Gateway works only in Gateway Mode so it is already blocked. And I think the Gateway Team can easily patch something. When CFW dev dont want that you can use pirated games then you cant.

I don't pirate, nor would I really try to justify (for the most part) it other than it helps drive homebrew. Homebrew and being able to run my backups (I invest quite a bit of money in equipment to backup my own licensed copies) are my main reasons for being interested in this stuff. Convenience without the restrictions of digital distribution, getting more out of my hardware, and being able to play a game with interesting mods others have created for it are a big part of it. That and archiving.

If Nintendo decided to come up with a compromise, like allowing people to able to run homebrew under certain restrictions, like limiting resource access to prevent people from being able to run homebrew without modding, then I'd probably lose a lot of interest in modding the console. Yeah, I probably wouldn't be able to run modded games, but it would be enough for me until the end of the console/handheld's commercial lifespan. Once the commercial lifespan is up, I'm tearing that thing apart and putting it back together any way I want.

As it is, anything that's not part of Nintendo's narrow "one-size-fits-all" vision is dismissed or attacked.

dead wrong. no kisses for you :|

edit: no hugs either

my prediction is: once you do, you'll start contributing something meaningful.
Well, the thing is, ARM11 just uses service calls or talks with ARM9 in order to get its data from the cart. I mean, you might be able to catch them from some sort of technicality, but it's unlikely. From ARM11 the GW cart and other things look like normal carts (in their respective firmwares, otherwise the GW cart looks like a broken/out of region cart inserted into the cartridge slot). sky3DS I guarantee you cannot catch without ARM9 (but the whole 4 lines of code thing stated by neimod was 4 lines of process9 code anyways). Nevertheless, I think I might know a way to detect the GW cart from ARM11, provided you're in GW mode on a <9.2 emuNAND.

you're acting like a little kid that's afraid of his toy being taken away by his mommy. this is a technical challenge which you do not have to take part in, no need to insult people.

Nobody's taking away piracy man. And when pirates get insulted, nobody complains.

My post still stands (and the post I quoted). This is a troll challenge to ramp up more sjw shit on the temp.

It's not about the taking of the toys, it's about people completely unaffected by the toys whinging about their existence. Bogus. For a site a used to go to for rom release info...

the prize:

all authors of valid solutions / detection code of any of the above mentioned piracy solutions get a kiss for each technique, unlimited uberhaxxor-fame on gbatemp with the right to have the title "mature h4xx0r" (or just "dev" if it makes you feel better) along with his/her signature. bonus points (and plenty hugs and kisses) for readable and well-commented code and for 3ds/n3ds compatibility.

You could offer at least one Gateway and Sky3DS sample ... : p

what if we actually stop discussing things? the best way to find out whether it's doable is by writing code. i think challenges like these are good way to drive homebrew development and i hope there'll be more challenges like this in the future. apart from making a statement about software pirates with a commercial interest (which is what this particular challenge is also about), you'll develop the skills required to implement your own wishlist instead of having to depend on someone. instead of wasting your time refreshing pages on forums, go install devkitarm and find out how easy and convenient development for the 3ds has been made for you! the prize? a kiss and a hug. and by looking closely, you'll find out that -over time- the real prize will be experience and a rich skillset, which is invaluable!

Good way to drive homebrew development?
No, it's a good way to help Nintendo block it.
