Hey there. I've been out of the loop regarding home consoles, but I have the chance to get a PS3 for about 150 USD (equivalent).
My latest home console is a Wii, which I seldom use it and even then, it's only to play Smash with my brother.

I have a low-end laptop which lets me play some newer games with ugly graphics and some difficulty:
Just Cause 2 - Can play it fine, low res but still fine.
Dark Souls - Fine, but low res and some slowdowns
Dark Souls 2 - Too slow, too ugly at low res.
Batman Arkham City - Slowdowns, low-res
Earth Defense Force - Too slow.
Assassin's Creed - I tried 2, it was too slow to be playable.
Dead Rising 2 - Only by overclocking I could manage to run it at below-decent fps

So, I'm thinking about a PS3 because I want to play those games that I can't play comfortably in my computer, but also because of those games that are not available to PCs. From the top of my head.
- Demon's Souls
- Red Dead Redemption
- 3D Dot Heroes
- Ni no Kuni
- MGS 4 (And collection)
- Armored Core
- ICO /SOC HD

And because I don't have a Blu-Ray player...

Keep in mind that I'm not interested in a X360 nor a PS4/XBONE, so that's out of the question.

So, my question is:

Do you think there are enough PS3 exclusives, existing games and upcoming games to justify buying a PS3?
Also, how's the Homebrew Scene on PS3? What's there that is interesting?

How many are enough? Are you looking for games that you can revisit, like Smash, or one-off little adventures that you can play, enjoy, then not touch again?

To add to your list, there are also games like "journey" that are brilliant, as well as "the unfinished swan" which are quick adventures but are worth it.

You can also play psx games on the ps3, as a note.

I completely forgot about Journey! That's one of the games I want the most for PS3. Also Dragon's Dogma.
I like experiences, like playing Shadow of the Colossus, knowing that it won't be the same the second time, but that are still fun or cool enough to visit some time later. I also like games that you can pick up and play, then stop playing (I loved swinging around in Spiderman 2, or wrecking some stuff in Just Cause 2).
So it's not like I have to have a number of games, but what I really want is a console that has lots of good games. Like what the PS2 was in its era.

Lol, nothing else is left. You ruled out all the other options except a high-end PC :P

Haha, I know. What I was trying to say is that I don't intend on buying anything else but a PS3, in the sense of "Don't suggest any other console".

It's totally worth it, go for it bro.

It's got more games worth getting than PS4/Xbone still, just they're not all new. But if you haven't played them, they're new to you.

Of course it's "still worth it", it always will be. It doesn't matter if it gets support or new games, the library isn't going to shrink. PS3's are only going to get cheaper as time goes on and there's loads of games to play so it's a good investment.

I always used my PS3 for PS3 exclusives. I played all the multi-platform games on my Xbox 360 as they were coded better and looked better on the 360 compared to PS3. Take GTA IV for example.

Maybe it's that I'm a console peasant but I've never really had issues with games on PS3, sure there are framedrops here and there like in GTA IV when it'd have too much going on or whatever, although that never really annoyed me that much to not play on it.

If I had to pick between the PS3 and Wii U, I'd go with PS3. The only thing I play on Wii U is Mario Kart 8 and that says something. :P

So, I finally caved in and bought one, along with Dragon's Dogma and I'm currently downloading Demon's Souls and Ni No Kuni.
So far, Dragon's Dogma has been great! I'm not used to HD Graphics so it blew out me out of the water! I can't wait to try Ni No Kuni!

most ps3 games are super cheap at gamestop, hell I got motorstorm for 99 cents. but its nice because if you dont like it you can still trade it in and sometimes come back with 2 or 3 games since they're all so cheap

PS+ lets you rack up games fast if you join...and used games are so cheap because there are so many in print. Firing up PS1 games is pretty satisfying...hadn't touched my copy of Symphony of the Night in years and it loads right up :gba:

I have a PS3 and a PS4 as well as a Wii U and a Gaming PC.

PS3 is still super worth it for me. I've just discovered loads of games on the PS3 i'd never heard of.

There's the obvious greats like the Uncharted games, demon souls and of course: Ni No Kuni.

Folklore and Puppeteer are fantastic hidden gems that not many talk about.

Only homebrew if you've basically exhausted the PS3 in my opinion. The cons outweigh the pros with PS+, the Playstation store as well as most servers are online and still popular. I started playing defiance on PS3 and surprised to see how popular it still is. The console is still a long way from being dead.

One could argue that you could have a better experience on PC with some titles. I don't think that a PS2 is worth buying when you can have a PS3 with the HD releases that perform better on a HD television, for example.

Well, you can get a PS2 and use FMCB. Backups on a PS2 with SMB is a good solution. GSM can also upscale the graphics. I have the remasters on ps3 for ICO and SOC and using a PS2 version upscaled, the difference isn't very much.

There's several problems with what you're saying, namely compatibility and accessibility. HD releases aren't very numerous and even on a hacked PS3 with the possibility for injecting ISO's into the HD Remastered/PS2 Classics container compatibility is spotty. A PS2 costs next to nothing and it'll run whatever you throw at it. As for playing PS3 titles on a PC, you're forgetting about loads of exclusives.

Edit: I misconstrued the statement, never mind.

There are plenty of Exclusive PS3 titles that are so so worth it. Yes, many of these great games are on PC or 360, but only things like God of War, Uncharted, Ni no Kuni and others are on PS3.
