Not all YouTubers have Patreon or accept direct donations. They're not beggars, they're content creators. Some people want to earn money, not just get donations. That, and there's the mess of taxation to deal with etc. - pay slips are an easier way to manage that.

Not to be picky but I hate when people refer to people on youtube as "content creators". Very very few people on youtube qualify for that title. There's gotta be a new word for youtubers that reflect what the majority of them are...

What do you consider a " content creator" then?

I don't see why you'd say that, the word "content" doesn't bare any explicit meaning beyond "something that is published". If what YouTubers publish classifies as content then they're content creators. The word you're probably looking for is "artists" and I'll agree with that, not all of them are artists.

This is the obvious response to ad-block users and people who feel like their content is superior and needs to be sold instead of just relying on the ads.

I wouldn't recommend using this unless your videos are incredibly amazing or you have a massive following (1 million+ subscribers). YouTube is supposed to be a free videos site and anything other than that will piss a lot of people off.

Overall it's not a bad idea from Google to provide this, it'll only make YouTube more relevant for professionals. They indicated it for months and now it's there. Originally you had to have 10.000 subscribers, but now 1.000 is enough. Remember when monetization had preconditions too? Now there are none. This will probably also happen to paid subscriptions. Yay for capitalism :yay:

Twitch has the same exact setup, and streamers get tons of money by people subscribing. I'd imagine the same exact thing will happen with this.

I find that completely ridiculous. This style of advertising makes an individual dislike the company being promoted even more because most people don't even like seeing the ads. Even YouTube or Twitch or any other video sharing site / streaming site would get hate from this. Screw you, YT.

To be quite honest, back then, YouTube was completely awesome. They turned shit in its web display, as years passed. Complicated shit came along.

Why would anyone do this if they could just download Adblock instead and for free? This is dumb.

Well, there's the Apple audience who overpay for the Apple products so wouldn't be surprised if they'd eat this up too.

It's not so much about getting rid of the ads as it is supporting the person they're watching, which isn't "completely ridiculous" at all. If you're so against supporting people who entertain others, might as well start bitching about movie tickets and TV providers and internet providers, too.

I'm not against the people who entertain others, I mean I am against ads showing up on videos, which is kinda pointless; as a lot of people dislike this type of advertising.

As if I don't have more important things to spend my money on. I've taken to downloading content to avoid ads on YouTube

Just makes me want to use adblock on youtube even more. I remember the days when youtube didn't even have monetization.
Good. I think this will mostly be for supporting Youtubers we like. Patreon is dumb and this way maybe we'll get some exclusive features like access to sub only chat on videos or something.
