I got two nephews, 7 and 12. My sister told me that their DS Lite had a messed up screen, so I ordered a new one off Ebay. I stayed up last night, watching a video on how to replace the screen. I watched it at least 5 times before finally getting up the nerve to fix it. I undid the connections SO carefully, just as the video showed. I successfully removed the touch screen from the LCD, and swapped it with the new screen. Then I very precisely reversed my steps in disassembly, checking the connections twice before sealing it back up. But when I went to turn it on, I got nothin. The battery was pretty low when I took it apart, so i plugged in the charger. The charging light came on for half a second and then went out. So I took it apart, checked all my connections a second and third time, only to get the same results. I just can't figure out what the cause could be. I've successfully turned their working DS with a little bit of screen damage into a fully nonfunctional paperweight. :(

I tried to replace my family friend's DS Lite's case because it was being held on with glue in some parts. Snapped the power switch off by accident when I was putting it back together. He says it's alright since it was on its last legs but I felt immense guilt for the past few days.

As for your situation, I would probably just bite the bullet and buy a working second hand one to replace it. Maybe you can make it up by buying one of those DS Lites that have a different colored shells instead of the standard white, black or pink ones?

In this guide, in the comments, they say the step 16 it's unnecessary due to it's difficulty to attach the cable of the LCD screen back, will have booting problems, maybe that's the issue.

Personally, i suggest you to use iFixit guides better than youtubes ones, in my opinion, they are better.

Good Luck!!!

i think you blow up a fuse, my ds lite didn't turned on, the charging light only come for a second...

give it a check with a multimeter, if blown either replace it or bridge it

also, remember the console must have the battery plugged to turn on (if you have the charger plugged but no battery it will not work)

Then if it still functions properly with the original screen you've more or less eliminated the mainboard of the system as the culprit, leaving you with the screen itself. The new screen is likely either a dud or damaged, most likely somewhere on the ribbon cable. Or, despite trying multiple times, maybe you just kept failing to seat the ribbon cable properly.

In other words, if you still can't get the new screen to work (but the old one does) just buy another screen and try again.

I pushed both ribbon cables in all the way up to the clip just as it was. So I dunno.

It's already broken to begin with, you just tried to fix it.

See if you can get one from ebay for a tenner or something.
DSses where sold in the 100 million, shouldn't be that hard.

I would second the idea that the screen is defective. I have replaced 3 DSL screens myself, only had 1 that didn't work- the replacement screen was DOA. Got another, and it worked. But yeah, nowadays, a used working system may be a better bet, prices have come down, less hassle, etc.

On a side note, kudos to you for trying to resurrect/repair an old system. There's nothing more satisfying than taking something that is broken or defective and making it like new again.

Best uncle ever, in my book.

well one time a friend got a new housing for his DSlite, I asked if I could change it for him since he have no experience with electronics and I was very curious to disassemble that :v
well everything ok until the part that needed to be changed: the upper screen part ... I pulled n ring where the uper scren flash goes, and accidentally the flat comes along =A= but I bought him a new screen and fixed it :v

Latter this experience was good for me, I bought one DSlite with died upper screen, replaced it to give as gift to a friend xD

Well you should ask someone that understand about it now to see if you can save the console :x or maybe getting a new/used console, they shouldn't be much expensive and sice DSlite don't have internal memory like DSi or 3DS, they will lose nothing getting a new console o3o
