I have soft moded v4.3E with all up to date iOSes: I've checked with SU option in ModMii my sysCheck.csv file. I've bought used and moded Wii so I don't know how it worked before

I'm using only usb hdd with usb loader gx to load games (never dvd drive) and the problem is that when wii is cold, freshly started, then all games work and I can exit one game and enter other, but after playing few games it starts to hang or freeze. For example Donkey kong works fine on cold wii but after the console is working for about an hour and I want to start the game again, the game hangs in different ways: sometimes is starts just up to game home screen when donkey kong letters appear and music is running but no "press 2 to start the game" message appears and nothing happens when I press wiimote buttons. wiimote also acts dead and no lights blink or any sign of life. Sometimes I can start the game but when I choose to start the level, loading screen hangs in infinite loading loop just before level starts (that animation when monkeys run towards trhe end of the screen) and same thing happens with wiimote (no response from it). I have 3 different wiimotes and I've tryed all of them, all are dead in that situation.
Alspo when that happens i can't reset or shutdown wii just by clicking power/reset buttons but I need to press power and hold it for forced shutdown and after powering wii up and trying same games, same problems happens.
Theres strange thing that wiimotes which are synced in main menu get unsynced when game starts so I need to wake them by pressing A+B and sometimes when they are found and start to vibrate, they hang in that state so they never stop to vibrate and that happen exactly when game has crashed like I've described above

ideas?

i had this problem on a ps2... the lazer needed replacement, i replaced it and all games worked fine...
but since you are playing through usb and it also happens on main menu (check with a pen drive or anther hdd, just to make sure its not the hdd) it shouldn't be the problem...

It might be a problem with the GPU. I remember back in the early days of the Wii it was being blamed on Connect24 and/or specific games that started the problem by overheating and causing residual effects.

I've been reading about GPU overheat on Wii and I don't have any artefacts. Also as I read, that was happening because of disc drive spinning and heating wii that way

I've checked WD usb hdd for spin down issue and it looks like it doesn't have problems with going into sleep...

so, I've tryed to play again today DKong game on cold wii and everything was working fine until I've ended second level when it stoped just when summary of level start to count: the monkeys were animated so console wasent completely frozen. Also pressing power button turned of the game but not the console and then the console was really stuck and I had to press and hold power button to turn it off

any ideas?

could it be due USB Loader GX?

EDIT:
could it be that something is filling Wiis memory so that after a while it just can't accept anything and causes it to hang? just a taught because I really don't know what last owner did with the console

it looks like HDDs were the problem. Boht are 2,5" and they get power only from Wiis USB. So I've hooked up old 3,5" External IDe drive with 80gb Maxtor IDE HDD which never turns off and I've been playing the whole day today and no problems what so ever.

so 2,5" hdd are tricky choice. I'll stick to 3,5"

I was thinking about pimping my Wii as far as it could be done so could you help me? I was thinking about spliting 200gb hdd on two partitions: one FAT32 (about 10gb) and rest WBFS. On FAT partition I would store homebrew apps, covers, duplicate nand image for savegames and roms for emulators... do you have any other sugestion? I'll be using Wii only for playing so no surfing, internet, chat or whatsoever. any suggetsion is great :)

I use a 2.5 harddrive which uses both USB ports to draw enough power from, and it never spins down (which kind of sucks when my roommate leaves the Wii on overnight). Never had any issues with this harddrive. I scrapped it from a dead laptop from 2007, and threw it into a USB 2.0 casing from newegg. I then gutted one layer of a DMG-001 grey brick gameboy that didn't work anymore thanks to battery corrosion, and stuffed the usb harddrive inside of it using my dremmel. I'll have to take a picture of it sometime, it looks quite good hooked up to the Wii. :P
