Now please no flaming or trolling please I want this to be a clean topic. So why hasn't the 3ds hack been open-sourced well I think there is too many gateway fanboys on this site but other then that simple question why. Now I do own a gateway and r4i deluxe and the only reason I just bought a gateway is to run homebrew. The r4i deluxe did me dirty and bricked my XL (or should I say gateway did) but the 4.0b2 firmware was ok it had muti-rom and played all the games I wanted to play but I was fearing that brick again. So the 3ds hack is all software forget the red gateway card for a second the whole hack is software the red card acts as a loader for the roms that's all.
Everything is done on the 3ds's sd card slot, the hack, emu-nand, even rom loading can be done from the sd card of the 3ds and it has been done already (on 4.1 to 4.5 of course) but still. Then there is ssspwn which I don't really want to get into but smea should of known that his hack would work on the new 3ds before it was released because both old and new 3ds uses the same firmware and processes. I don't want to get off topic here but when the ps3 was jailbroken it was also all software and people started jumping to reverse engineer the psjailbreak and did in about 2-3 weeks and released it to everyone.
I don't like when software hacks have a price tag it's not right hardware hacks I can understand because you really need the hardware to exploit the console. The Xbox 360 you can flash your dvd drive so you can run backed up dvds but you need hardware to flash the dvd drive there's no getting around that but the Lt-3.0 firmware is free of charge. Now I'm not a developer or a programmer I'm a 30 year old auto mechanic that has simple soldering skills and have nothing to offer to the 3ds scene at all. The biggest thing I ever done was finding a buffer overflow exploit in a psp game after reading a tutorial on how to find one on wololo.net. But I really hope that someone will come forward and get rid of these 3ds mode flashkit's. That's when the 3ds homebrew will take off like the psp scene. Smea exploit will be very boring if released today and kernal access would mean way better homebrew. For now I will use my overpriced gateway card that uses a encrypted software exploit that is plagued with brick code so people with half a brain can't open-source or copy it easily. When smea releases his work you will have to buy a game to make it work but at lease you can play the game and hopefully it will be a good game like Nano Assault, or a Mario game.
