Hi

I’m after a bit of advice regarding a particular HDD and Wii / Dios Mios support.

I bought a Seagate Expansion 500GB USB 3.0 portable HDD (this one). Wii games work fine with it but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work with Dios Mios. It’s formatted to FAT32 with a 32Kb cluster size (and there is only one primary partition) but every game I try to load just goes to a black screen and sticks there (the games themselves are verified working on this console with DM though as I have a 16GB USB stick and they load and play fine from that so it’s definitely an issue with the drive).

So, back to the drawing board...

As an alternative I’ve found this WD Elements 500GB USB 3.0 portable HDD. According to the USB device compatibility list similar devices are reported working great with no spindown issues (though I don’t think this specific device is listed judging by the pictures - I can’t find the model number to verify) but according to the Dios Mios compatibility list the 1TB model spins down after 10mins and this can’t be changed or disabled. The 500GB model isn’t listed though.

So my question is; before I go and waste even more money on this drive, does anyone have any experience with this one (for both wii and GC games) or any idea if it’ll work or have spindown issues etc?

If it matters I’m using USBLoader GX and (I think) DM 2.10.

Also, as an alternative, anyone know if it might be possible to get the first drive (the Seagate one) working with DM? Would Nintendon’t be worth a try if DM doesn’t work?

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys.

All I can say is that Dios Mios is very picky about its usb devices. better get yourself a usb thumbstick- cheaper and have slightly better compatibility (at least from my experience)
