Hi Jayro some feedback for your mediacat recovery disc and mini windows 7.

My system that i was running was Windows 8 laptop and with amd based hardware.
I decided to upgrade my laptop to Windows 8.1 and I occurred this error (black screen of death issue) with C:\Windows

\System32\Windows.UI.Immersive.dll

For further information http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows8_1-windows_install/blank-screen-after-

installing-windows-81/23fd21bb-4c37-4342-9b2c-5c9b396ed796.

Any way i used mediacat to boot into mediacats mini windows 7 because i needed to move few files about for windows 8.1

from windows\system 32.

According to this guide from; http://www.eightforums.com/general-support/33186-windows-8-1-login-black-screen.html

Solution 1 : Reinstall the video driver in safe mode

if solution 1 doesn't work then

Solution 2 : Replacing Windows.UI.Immersive.dll file

Step 1 : go to system32 subfolder in Windows folder (typically C:\Windows\System32)

Step 2 : Find the Windows.UI.Immersive.dll,check for Date Created attribute(if it is in October 2012,you may have to

replace with the recent one)

Step 3 : Goto WinSxS subfolder in Windows folder, search for Windows.UI.Immersive.dll(which is newer version) ](i found it

inC:\Windows\WinSxS\x86_microsoft-windows-windowsuiimmersive_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16408_none_c6ca1a15ef5e5709)

Step 4: Replace the older file with the newer one in system32 folder

Step 5: there is a hidden folder called Windows Activation Technologies in root drive(usually C:\Windows Activation

Technologies),replace the older file in the above folder too.
Then restart,
hopefully this solves your problem.

Mediacat mini windows 7 wouldn't boot and it said that i had no MBR magic as you see from this link http://s7.postimg.org/7xhcjh2cb/20141104_172222.jpg.

Linux Mint booted and allowed me to move few files around. I have tested the Mediacat boot via virtual box and mediacat mini windows 7 booted up fine.

Hi Jayro some feedback for your mediacat recovery disc and mini windows 7.

Thanks for your input. Since the beta release, I have decided to make Mini Windows 7 it's own bootable ISO, in the ISO folder. Hopefully this will prevent it from that error again. I have also fixed the broken boot paths of the other utilities. Whenever Mint 17.1 drops, I'll release it as stable. :)

I have finished updating the applications in Mini Windows 7, and have a completed changelog ready for the 12.10.2014 DVD release. Just waiting on Linux Mint 17.1 to release. If the Mint team releases Mint 17.1 before 12.10.2014, I will "leak" it early. :)

Changelog for v12.10.2014 already on front page, prepped for release.

Linux Mint 17.1 has just passed QA testing, releases as "stable" in the next few days according to the Linux Mint blog, so it looks like MediCat DVD v12.10.2014 gets an early release! :D

I'll post here again when I've updated the OP on the first page with the new ISO link.

Then what?
Well, I'll be taking a much-earned 5 month break from this project until the next stable Mint release!

MediCat DVD v12.10.2014 (stable) has been released!
First post has been updated, as per the usual. Links and screenshots updated. Many things have been fixed and changed since the buggy beta release, so be sure to check out the changelog on page 1 for details!
And now I get to relax for a few months.
HAPPY COMPUTING! :yaysp:

Hi dude, really appreciate the work but I am having a problem, burned this to dvd and it just boots to a black screen. Pretty sure it burned correctly, all my Ubuntu, Linux mint disks seem to be booting fine so don't know what's quite going on

I literally just updated the download link a few minutes ago, the new version v12.10.2014 now has EFI support, and should boot normally. My EFI laptop did the same thing.

Get rid of TruCrypt 7.2 Thats the "takeover" version.
7.1a was the last real version.

Thanks, I'll make sure to do a regression to 7.1a in the next spring update. (I don't have the bandwidth tp re-upload 4GB of ISO just to update a single app, but users may edit any of the apps they see fit in the HBCD/Programs/Files folder before burning to DVD/USB. :) )

I still don't understand the whole TruCrypt fiasco, but if a fork of it ever becomes popular again, I'll gladly swap out TruCrypt for the new fork. So far, CipherShed looks to be the new replacement in spring.

Google KNOWS!!! lol

No one really knows what happened "officially."
There are a few popular theories:
1. TrueCrypt was the product of a spy operation the entire time [as no one has taken official credit] (either run by NSA or Russia's "under the hood").
2. The NSA got angry at the TCF and took it down.
3. TrueCrypt was never secure and the message is legitimate.

I personally still use TC, but not without having xxx+ false clones of the same attributes in hex with corrupted partitions in various physical locations.

Interesting... I have never used TrueCrypt myself. Nor have I ever felt the need to enable BitLocker. I guess I just don't value my unimportant data, as I backup everything important to me to various cloud services, like my Mediafire and Dropbox. My entire MediCat project's files are synced to Mediafire while I work on it, with the exception of the final master ISO just before release.

I'm updating the MediCat DVD ISO right now, so the link will be dead for a few hours. I've made a few changes to the disc, nothing major. Just fixed some menu stuff and a few other minor things:

- Removed an empty "SOURCES" folder from the root of the DVD, as well as a duplicate isolinux.cfg file
- Fixed a few incorrect instances of the "<== Back" entry being in the incorrect position on a few of the sub-menus
- Downgraded TrueCrypt from version 7.2 to version 7.1a; The last known "good" version, as suggested by jonthedit
- Updated the screenshots to reflect the menu fix changes
Download link is active again. :gba:
