now i know it sound ridiculous or impossible but lets stop and think for a little... and feel free to play Devil's advocate here but i have been thinking with the supercard dstwo we should now have the power to run psp games on dsi and above. I only can assume that the 3ds is using the ds menu from the dsi so im going with dsi specs as a baseboard

(reason i start with dsi and above is because dsi has slightly more higher specs then standard ds and light.)

Here is the dsi specs

~DSI Specs~
CPU's: 133 MHz ARM9 and 33 MHz ARM7
RAM: 16 MB PSRAM
GPU: Deemed to be combined with cpu?

ok now i know that donsent sound like muck and it isn't BUT with the supercard dstwo the specs are greatly boosted

another thing im unclear of is if the supercard DSTwo standalone chipset combines with the virtual ds software or if it ONLY uses the supercard DSTwo processor and ram. I believe it combines, again just thinking out loud here.

According to here "http://www.actel.com/documents/PA3_DS.pdf" here is the specs of the supercard DSTwo

~supercard DSTwo Specs~
CPU: 350mhz
RAM: 32mb
GPU: Not dedicated

now these specs are even better then the dsi built in specs. now lets say that the supercard DSTwo DOES combine with the ds hardware/software. the total soecs would be..

~Combined specs~
CPU: 516Mhz
RAM: 48Mb

now that's even better specs then the psp 1000

~Psp 1000 Specs~

CPU: 333Mhz
RAM: 32mb
GPU: 2mb Video RAM?

now with all that being said the only thing to put into account is 3 things

1. the dsi video RAM (GPU)
2. any differences between the 2 system processors
3. a developer to actually put this together

i would like to hear anyone else's thoughts, opinions and theories.

Unfortunately, that's not how emulation works. The fact that MIPS and ARM are in fact different, makes this whole concept impossible. Also, I get that your just thinking about hypotheticals, but in reality emulation isn't solely about clock speeds and higher RAM compacity. Btw how would you play psp games without an analog stick?

MIPS and ARM are completely different architectures, so it falls under the 'rule' that you need 10 times more processing power than original hardware to emulate it.
Otherwise you would be able to play PS2 games on a Pentium 2 400MHz PC with 64MB of RAM. And all GC games would work faster on Dolphin than any Wii games (yet F-Zero GX works much slower than Brawl)

Since everyone seems to want to rain on your parade, I'll attempt to be the silver lining.

The DS, DSi, and 3DS are probably out for PSP emulation(not a good start..), but you can emulate a PSP on a moderately powerful Android phone using PPSSPP: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ppsspp.ppsspp&hl=en

Or, at this point, a PSP can be had for what $50? That's just a little more than a DStwo, and you don't have to wait around for the programmer to release updates.

yea that what i was talking about in my last statement

"2. any differences between the 2 system processors"
i just didnt know the name of the psp architecture "MIPS"

i was also thinking about the whole analog thing, 2 ways of going about that.
1. make the ds dpad emulate the analog and make it a toggle (Like how n64 emu for psp does)
or
2. make the analog or dpad sawppable to the touchscreen

and i know about ppsspp emulator for android, i have it on my xperia play.

i have no real interest of getting a psp again, i love them but i wont get another just for nostalgic purposes i have had 5 psp's and a vita. i think thats enough lol

but the reason i decided to bring up this topic is that i have a thing for trying to accomplish the impossible, pushing my devices to the max and makeing simple tasks harder for show lol.

1. DSTWO doesn't run in DSi mode, only in DS mode on DSi. You can only use the DS power!
2. You can combine both, DSTWO and DS(i) power, but that's really slow and needs much knowledge of the hardware (DS2x86 used something in that direction).

combined mhz of the card and the console = more power than the psp?

you are a joke....

You see I would like to rain on this as well because you still need a powerful enough phone to get anything emulated and would still be more powerful than the DSTwo.
If you want to emulate PSP, just cut out the middle man and buy a PSP instead. They are cheap as fuck and easy to hack.

Because that's not how it works. You can't combine the DSTwo's CPU and the DSi CPU, because that's not possible.
The DSTwo uses it's own on-board CPU to work, it doesn't use the DSi's CPU. It also only runs in DS-Mode, both on the DSi and 3DS.
If you want a PSP, just buy one. They are dirt cheap and you are going to get better results.

I am going to damper your previous statements by simply saying, it was even remotely possible, even in the slightest, someone would have done it long ago when the 3DS was still new and there was an active community.
If you don't want to buy a PSP again, then either emulate it on your phone/computer. Because you aren't going to accomplish anything hoping to get a PSP emulator on a system that isn't strong enough to emulate it.
Dems da breaks, kid.

I admire your fantasy OP.
It will work in your dream but will never work in the real world.

Like previously suggested, get a PSP, their easy to hack and cheap as fuck.
If you badly want to emulate them, get a JTAG/RGH 360 or CFW PS3.
Or download PPSSPP.
Or get a hacked Vita.
You might be lucky if there's a powerful enough android device that can emulate it but financially, you're FAR better off just getting a PSP.

PSP emulation on handhelds is a thing to worry about in 5 years, as for now.
Just get a PSP.

as i said i like to overthink things its fun lol

and again i had no intention of even running this but i just wanted to know why or why not

and i have no intention of getting a psp again, not number 6 not happening i maybe a bit bitter that sony banned me and destroyed my ps3:angry::nayps3:
but yea, if i really wanted to play psp i would run it on my PC

but lets continue discussing why its impossible

Maybe you could write a PSP emulator for the GBA, then use that in the DSTWO's GBA emulator!

No wait, that's silly.

Write it for the SNES and use it in that emulator. That's the ticket!

In seriousness, I wonder if the 3DS itself could even handle a PSP emulator.

Extremely short answer: No.
A bit longer answer: The different architecture problem still applies, as 3DS, like DS, is based on ARM. And it's clocked relatively low (268MHz). In comparison, an Android smartphone with an ARM CPU clocked at 1GHz runs PPSSPP at un-playable speeds (not even 50%).

Now how about this?
A psp emulator on a 3ds flash cart using 3ds hardware?
and I still have a small thought that psp would run on ds BUT it require a ridiculously crazy hacker to convert the code. Just like how ds emulator was ported to android. And yes im aware that some androids and ds both share arm processors but drastic emulator was heavily re coded to work on android
