Let's get this out of the way, this year hasn't been good to the Vita at all. It was ignored at E3, a no show at Gamescom, and a decent showing at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Many wonder if Sony really does plan to get rid of the Vita. But according to Sony's UK boss the handheld console is here to stay.

"It's trucking along," he said. "It's currently in year-on-year growth and enjoying a healthy year, and it's about to hit its biggest and potentially most powerful release of the year, which is Minecraft. That could be an extraordinary release for Vita.

"We're seeing a bit of reflected glory from PS4. So there is a traction in remote play, and we see the numbers there. But it's more than that. It's just found its niche. It's not the biggest niche in the world, and we've been fairly open about talking about it entered a crowded landscape with many other devices providing some sort of handheld fulfilment. But for those who want that more specialist device and a more specialist experience, it does a damn good job, and therefore it trucks along quite nicely."

So while the Vita is here to stay we shouldn't really expect more AAA releases on the system for now on.
It's a shame to know that a great handheld like the Vita will never find a market. I also doubt Minecraft will do anything for the system. What do you guys think about this?

hahahaha i laugh everytime i see minecraft ported to some non selling console because no dev wants to actually release anything on it, if sony wants to force people to buy the vita, then they can add L2/R2 buttons to it, switch the ps4 controllers to the "new" modded vitas, increase the ps4 price a bit, and tada.

also:
...Minecraft...it's a joke isn't it? That's their hit?
No, that's not the joke, the very existence of the Vita IS the joke.

I mean, I used to play Minecraft, but come on...Porting it on every console is becoming really lame.
And I second that, the PSVita's existence is a joke...The worst joke ever.

Are you kidding? When I see the thing about Smash, and the fact that there is a New 3DS I smell the whole " Your old 3DS will become a pad for your Wii U". I'm just stating an opinion. As for the Vita it does have games, but it's not targeting the customers from outside Japan. When I see JRPG games, Rythmn games, some ports. It does tell me that it's not what the customers from outside Japan wants except for some people. ( I would like to have a PSVita if there were more Japanese game translated overseas...but nevermind, Sony doesn't care about the Vita.)

( Edit : By the way, i'm not trolling at all.)

Sony can say all they want about the Vita being here to stay but the Vita has been out of stock at pretty much every store here in the states for MONTHS now. Hard to convince people when there are literally no systems available to be bought.

...you are aware that's because they're selling out right? Stores aren't just not carrying it, they're literally selling out of the stock they have.

They might not have a lot of stock or something, but it's selling and not just disappearing.

As for the news, meh. I like my Vita, I like the games it gets, so I don't care.

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
