I don't think Nintendo cares if anybody replaces their current 3DS with the New 3DS, the New 3DS is going to be what is manufactured, and they will quit making the current 3DS. So anybody that buys a 3DS will have to buy a New 3DS, once they start to sell them to the public and the current 3DS is sold out. Kind of like when Sony quit making the phat version of their PS2 and PS3, did Sony care if anybody replaced their phat with a slim, I doubt it. You know that there are the people that have to have the latest thing, just like all those people that owned an iPhone 4 and were waiting in line at the apple store to get an iPhone 5.

Yeah it's a dumb idea, but the comparison doesn't look alright. Judging by the price difference, the upgrade must be very minor.
I don't see why that'd be the case. The DSi's ARM9 was twice as fast as the DS's, the N3DS is rumoured to run twice as fast as the original 3DS, while the Wii did not run twice as fast as the Gamecube despite using hardware from the same family. Nintendo's definitions of "successor" and "revision" are a bit wishy-washy in this regard.

The DSi is WAY more expensive than the DS Lite.

There you go then. By the looks of it, the N3DS is the same sort of deal - it's a bit "too" small for a slider with an assembly, I think it's one of those nubs.

I'm very much considering it. I haven't had a handheld gaming device since the original GBA, so it's about time I got back into it.

I doubt very much that there will be a lot of 'New 3DS' games. SW Devs will make games for the largest installed base. This will be like the NDS vs DSi.

While it sucks for the Gateway users, my question remains unanswered, will the SuperCard DSTwo still work on the "new" 3DS...?

Time will tell I guess...

These "exclusive" games will only run on this newer model which renders the rest of the community in a pretty shit state. All the best titles will probably come out on this due to the extra RAM and CPU.

This worked well for the Gameboy Color, and pretty much failed for the DSi. I expect it will fail for *New 3DS* also.

I think people aren't willing to buy a new piece of hardware for a minor hardware bump... well, at least most people. The Gameboy Color offered something new, the DSi and the New 3DS offer a slightly better version.

Sorry if i seem pretentious but since monster hunter is now on nintendo, There is a high chance that the new monster hunter games(another 4s revisions or 5) will be exclusively on the new 3ds which is more powerful which monster hunter needs. Since monster hunter is pretty much a system seller in Japan. It may very well solve the problems of adoption rates for the new 3ds and thus lead to the old 3ds abandonment

Also it seems like the hardcore gamer announcement seem to be tie very much with the new 3ds where "hard core gamer"(lol 100 hours xenoblade really...) who want better graphic vs people who want to play more casual and less graphical intensive games(like 2d fire emblem was ever casual....)

unless nintendo has made the same mistake as with the wiiu, its never really a good thing to name a successor to a console just something like "new"3DS, im thinking this will be more of a stopgap console like the DSi i.e some extra games, but mostly it will be "new 3ds enhanced games" so they will play on the 3ds but work a bit better on the new 3ds

its was not a grand enough announcement to be considered a new generation launch, its most comparable to how apple launches a "s" device to catch people who need the latest thing.......even though its barely any different and devs don't just go "quick drop support for the console where we might sell 1 million copies for a console that will have a considerably smaller install base"

Only nintendo can get away with this kind of stuff.

On the bright side, at least they're not pulling an Apple with a minor upgrade (like a device that's 0.01 centimeters thinner) and at twice the price as the last version of the hardware ;)

Technology has also had 4 years to get cheaper. Remember how much DDR3 was just a couple years ago? (and now DDR4 has been announced.)

Gateway isnt a threat to Nintendo. Its too expensive, The knowledge isn't mainstream, and the remaining hardware thats necessary is shrinking every day.

I can see most new 3DS games being "enhanced" on NEW models but being completely compatible on older versions.

Like maybe improved framerate or loading times etc

Yeah, maybe Poke Omega ruby might run at decent FPS in 3D unlike the FUBAR of PokeX/Y

No, this is actually the end of 3DS itself and a stopgap before its successor. Developers won't really bother with it since it's simply not profitable and because you can't just ignore a 40mln install base. This is DSi all over again.

Most likely, I see Nintendo doing what they did for the DSi, which is to run it in a reduced speed mode to be as close as possible to the speed of the original. the 3D tracking stuff probably works at a firmware level so it will apply to both new 3DS mode and original 3DS mode. by running in a reduced speed mode, games that are written in such a way to rely on the processor speed being that of a normal 3DS will not have problems like they may if they were running at the new 3DS processor clock speed.

the 1.4GHz xbox mod demonstrates this with some games operating fine, if not better, while others run at double speed or just crash.

@BigOnYa I had 4.89 hfw on super slim that was great, but when I got a new hard disk I forgot where the guide was and could only find a guide for 4.90 and its resources
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
@BigOnYa I think another reason to want to update is if the hfw is at the level of the fw
  • S @ salazarcosplay:
    you can sync trophies
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea that's what I'm sitting on now- 4.9, and it seems fine, have had no issues at all

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.

@BigOnYa I wanted to ask you about your experience with seeing south park. Most of the people a bit younger like my younger brother and cousins that are a few younger than me that saw kids found south park funny because of the curse words, kids at school, that seemed like liking the show on a very basic level.

I could not quite have a in depth discussion of the show.

How was it for you? As an adult. What did you find the most interesting part about it. Did you relate to the parents of the kids and their situations. Was it satires, the commentary on society. The references on celebrities' and pop culture.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I remember seeing the very first episode back in the day, and have watched every episode since. I used to set my VCR to record them even, shows how long ago.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I just like any comedies really, and cartoons have always been a favorite of mine. Family guy, American Dad, Futurama, Cleveland Show, Simpsons - I like them all.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
South Park is great cause they always touch on relavent issues going on today, and make something funny out of it.

@BigOnYa were you always up to date on the current events and issues of the time or were there issues that you first found out thru south park
