Hey guys,

title says it all (And I hope it fits in this section). Every time I choose a song, the damn media player just pops up and I must minimize it every single time.

It's so annoying and I don't know what to do (Except using another player, abviously).
I installed the media taskbar from older versions but that did not work at all.

Could not find a solution via google. Many got the same problem, nobody knows the anwer.
Maybe you guys know what to do? Or maybe you know a better player with a taskbar that not pop up? Just using the media player out of habit. Windows Media Player 11 did not have this annoying "feature" and worked quite well for me.

compliments

I think I need some clarification here...

First of all, I assume you mean Windows Media Player on a PC, correct? This is the wrong section, this is for phones and mobile media players only. I'll move the thread to the appropriate section.

Secondly, what do you mean when selecting a new song? Like, opening a new song from explorer, and then Windows Media Player comes on top? I assume you're like me, and you constantly switch between songs instead of making a single playlist and just sticking to that.

There's no way to stop it. I use VLC media player, works fine for me and doesn't pop up whenever I open other songs.

..oh. Sorry, I just read Media Player and thought that would be it.
Yes, that is correct - and thanks for moving the thread. Silly me.

And your second guess also hits the spot. I choose a song out of the explorer and the player just pops up and maximize over all the other things I have opened, blocking the view and forcing me to minimize the window again to go on.

At the moment I'm working on my little collection of videogame soundtracks, searching for better quality versions, adding Covers to the songs and of course listening to many of the tracks to hear if I have the right version (As there are many many ports out there that sound totally different but named the same).

When I normally hear songs on my computer I don't work with playlists either.

Frustrating to hear that there is no way.. but I will try VLC out right away. Thanks in advance!

You can uninstall it or you can change the association to a different player.

You mean uninstall the current version of the media player? Thought about that method, but isn't it connected directly to windows or something like that? Did not see a uninstall button or else. Could be working different of course, but I don't know.

You can uninstall Windows Media Player by going into Programs and Features in your Control Panel, go to "Turn Windows Features on or off.." on the left, then find "Media Features". Windows Media Player can be unchecked, and it will act as if it's uninstalled.

CheatFreak47 is also right, Winamp is the absolute best Audio player IMO, but it also uses a lot of resources which is kind of annoying >.>

Winamp is pretty good too, but it's more for music. VLC is all around pretty good, especially with video.
Just tried Winamp out - and that programm is amazing! And so fast in loading different titles after another!

What bugs me with VLC is that it does not delete the title from before, but create a playlist from all the titles played.
Means if I let repeat titles, it does not play that specific title again but starts with a title I earlier heard.

Thank you all! I must say this forum amazes me more and more. ;)

Ah, that is how it works. Thank you!

What do you mean with "many resources"? It takes about 40 MB on internal memory. Is that much?

Yup winamp is the best imo, there's tons of skins and visualization plugins as well, winamp was just bought out by another company from aol so hopefully they reduce the bloat,
I'm not at my computer right so I can't take a pic to whar mine looks like
There is also winamp for android but poweramp is far superior

Vlc/mpc should only be used as video players and winamp amp only for audio

If you want a music player without bloat try foobar2000.

You can use something like Columns UI to make it bit more user friendly. But yeah foobar2k all the way as it's most lightweight and customizable.
Winamp is pretty easy to use out of the box so I can understand why so many use that one instead but all the extra bloat with it is too much.

HDD space isn't only resource in your system. At least for me there are some background processes handled by WMP including DLNA server I don't use.

VLC is mostly for video viewing so it's not exactly the best for dedicated music listening.
VLC is easiest way to watch videos as it plays insane amount of formats and uses codecs internally so it doesn't mess up computers own codecs. It does have however history if pixelating HD videos so K-lite + MPC-HC all the way.
