I have a fat NDS from long ago and I decided to get a flash cart to breathe some life into it, as it's been doing nothing but collecting dust.
With that being said, I'm having a heck of a time actually getting this thing to work.
I originally started with a 2 GB Sandisk MicroSD card and things were looking good, at the start. I installed the kernel from r4ids.cn and it loaded up fine, allowing me to browse my selection of games. The problem is if I attempt to load a game, or even change the skin of WOOD, I get a message on the screen that says " Processing, dont power off" and the SD icon in the upper right corner of the bottom screen rapidly blinks and no button presses are accepted. The strangest part is it isn't totally freezing, the clock on the top screen continues to run.
I figured that this was a problem with the SD card so I tried a different one I had on hand, a 32 GB Sandisk MicroSDHC that was in my wife's phone. I followed the same procedure as I did with the previous card down to the T, but this time when I try to load it up I get nothing but a black screen. No error messages, nothing. It's actually the same results I get if I have no SD card in the cart at all.
At this point, I'm frustrated, I'd been working on it for hours with no results. In my desperation, I go to the store and by another SD card, this one an 8 GB Sandisk MicroSDHC. This provided the same results as the 32 GB card, and now I'm stumped. I've wasted my entire day with this ridiculous thing, I'm about ready to RMA it as I can't seem to find any other issue with it.
With that said, I have a couple of key questions, as they are the only variables that I can't currently test.
Does this cart have issues with Sandisk SD cards in general?
and
Does this even work with a fat NDS?
Any help or insight from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I should mention that I've followed all of the standard formatting procedures, even some not so standard ones, notably setting a FAT16 partition on my SD cards over 4GB.
I realized after I posted this that I made no mention of formatting, but that was the first thing I did when working with the SD cards
Also, if pics would help I can post some later. I'm not in a position where that would be easy to do at the moment.
EDIT 2: This is the cart I purchased. http://www.realhotstuff.com/R4i-Gold-3DS-RTS_p_86.html
