I can rip midis from almost all ds games (including this games predecessor Shadow Dragon) with Vgmtrans but, Fire Emblem 12 for some reason crashes. Even with TWEWY nothing showed up but I could still open it and from what I know it has the same soundfont as Shadow Dragon and songs rip from that. So what exactly is the issue?

I don't remember the problem but you can try using another program besides VGMTrans or whatever. I think there was something else that can convert it though it doesn't have a GUI or something, look into it. Some games just don't work but I'm pretty sure MIDIs CAN be ripped from FE12. VGMTrans is a pretty buggy program so I wouldn't rely on/pin your hopes on that. And with TWEWY yeah the fact that the music isn't MIDI means there'd be nothing to show haha~
Yeah TWEWY has lyrical songs which can't be midi but do you know any programs that might substitute Vgmtrans cause that's the only one I could find after hours and hours of searching that worked.
Pretty sure that retail DS games don't use MIDI's, like, at all. ADPCM/PCM, yes. MIDI? No, that's a super-obsolete standard.

Shadow Dragon, it's predecessor does, as do many others and they had to program it somewhat in the same way because Fe12 has songs from Shadow Dragon in it copy and pasted over.
Now I have the sdat and ssqeq files but all of the converters are comand promt .exes and windows 8 for some reason always terminates them. I can't do it from the cmd.exe file either.
Open up CMD with Administrator Privileges, type in the path to the converter and use the /? command at the end to check if you're following the correct syntax - there's no reason why it should just shut down unless you're doing something wrong.
Ok I have it open now but after it opens I can't insert the path for the sseq files. I'm using sseq2midi by the way.
What do you mean by "can't insert"? Are you doing it by Ctrl+V? You can't do that in a Windows command prompt, you have to type it in manually or right-click and press Paste, I don't think the shortcut works.
It's the syntax of the command line tool. You type in "sseq2midi YourSseq2File.sseq" and off you go - it converts.
Thanks for the info. Oh and I just now figured out that I can just drag the sseq file to sseq2midi and it wont terminate until after conversion.
Yes, you can drag and drop files, but if you want to make a batch, it's easier to do it via the full CMD line or via a .BAT file. That, and if you run into any issues, you'll get to read what went wrong instead of exiting to desktop straight away.
