Less than 3 games per console aren't very strong software sales.

edit: And if they really count all games from the psn shop towards this number it is even more diappointing.

The system was launched November 2013, so it's been 5 months. If software sales are 3 games per system on average, it means that its users are buying 1 game each 1,6 months - this is an encouraging number.

1 game each 1,6 months is very good when the people own a consolole for a longer time. But here you have only new costumers and normally you buy at least 1-2 games together with your shiny new console. So less than 3 games including cheap psn games don't impress me.

That's not necessarily a given. Plus, you have to remember that not all of these console purchases were made at launch. At least three million consoles have been sold since January, at least 2 million of those sales have been since February, and at least a million of those have been since March. That can skew things quite a bit.

It's good to see Sony making profit but I have the same problem with the PS4 that I have with PS Vita. It's not 2015 yet.
Most games that interest me are coming out that year.

I wonder if Sony is including the free download of Resogun in those "sales" figures.

It's all good though, Sony will provide an endless supply of strong games like Call of Duty: Something different we swear this time!

Or any of the free PS+ games for that matter.
Pretty sure that they don't because PS+ benefits are not actual purchases - they are rentals at best. You have access to the games, yes, but they are removed from your download list as soon as your subscription ends and cannot be used until you renew it. I'm assuming that by "sold games" they mean games that you permanently own.

I wouldn't be so quick to assume anything, it wouldn't be the first time Sony has played with the numbers to make things look better. This is true of almost any company as they have an obligation to the stock holders to paint a pretty picture so any time I see these kind of numbers I always take it with a giant grain of salt.

Alright, trick question then. If the PS4 has been on the market since November and Plus games were counted in this, how come the result isn't higher than three? The games come monthly, don't they? And do you really think that people live solely off of what Plus had to offer on the PS4? I call shenanigans, since it's mostly indie titles.

Checkmate, sceptics! ;O;

It's only natural that PS4 is doing so great, it has the best hardware,
third party developers are supporting it and we have granted that Sony will release their fantastic IPs on it.

Now if they could just get the rest of the company doing something even remotely resembling that...

It's good news that the PS4 is selling at a steady pace, we will just have to wait to see if it's good enough to save Sony the company.

Erm...since the PS4 is selling at a loss, that actual number is kind of bad news for them. It's the software sales and PS+ subscriber fees where they're making their profit. I assume that'll compensate for the cost of the system (especially in the long run), but I really think it's too early to call it a cash cow for the rest of Sony.

We had a thread on that bankruptcy website and about how it was basically bullshit a little while ago.

Sony the company's definitely in some bad straits as of right now, but it's game division is doing well and is one of the company's most consistent performers. In the event of any restructuring, it'd probably be safe from the chopping block.

There's a loss, sure, but it's pretty small, and Sony only has to sell one game to make a profit, iirc. Considering the fact that there's 20 million PS4 games sold to 7 million PS4's (not to mention PSN membership), they're churning a good profit already.

Interesting take on things for sure, I mean no mention of the multiple pieces of bad news Sony has had over the past few years. IE all the stuff they sold to stay afloat, selling off the chemical production, LCD production, 2 huge office buildings and lots more, or the layoffs, closing of multiple studio's, or the credit rating being put at the same level as a junk bond. Really the list just goes on like a train wreck if you really dig into it.

But yes the PS4 is doing great!

Okay.
I knew that's the case for the wiiu, but it's good to hear this goes for the PS4 as well. :)

Nobody's denying that Sony as a whole is struggling, but Macroaxis in particular is not a particularly reliable or trustworthy source. They have Nintendo at 75%, and even I can tell you that is bullshit. It's the financial equivalent of settling arguments with Google Fight.

The point is, Sony's gaming division is one of its stronger, more consistent performers. Even as Sony as a whole continues to downsize and adjust, it'll likely get through relatively unscathed.
