Gaming Nintendo Network ID...safe or no?

the eshop is now set up so you cant download any demos until you link a Nintendo network ID. but on the preliminary screen it says : YOU CAN ONLY ACCESS ESHOP FOR THE COUNTRY IN YOUR IDS PROFILE AS COUNTRY OF RESIDENCE

ANY NINTENDO ESHOP BALANCE THAT DOSENT MATCH THE CURRENCY WILL BE ERASED WITHOUT REFUND IF YOU PROCEED. DELETING AN ID WILL ALSO DELETE ANY ESHOP PURCHASES HISTORY ASSOCIATED WITH IT.

that might be a problem. im in Canada, but i want to get "Kokuga", and its not released in canada. DERP

UPDATE

i decided to just go ahead and try it. a USA eShop card cost me $25 Cad, but i dident pay any taxes (California). so it was about equal.

i got Kokuga, and snapped up the US-Only $2 MegaMan sale (Last day, Lucky!). still have $3 left, but theres a Coming Soon game not on the Canadian eShop yet so ill just hang on to the last $3 and wait.

i deleted both of them, and it seems you Cannot re-download Kokuga from the Canadian eShop. it will just give you an error prompt. but you can redownload any Available game. so if they ever do release Kokuga in canada later on, only then will we be able to redownload it from canadain eShop.

and i guess linking a NNID will effectively DESTROY our ability to change regions. which means we can never get any Demos or free apps anymore. not a huge loss..... the ability to get the most awesome game on the eshop right now, or Miiverse, yeah, real tough choice LOL.

oh and CLUB NINTENDO works fine between Canada-USA. it kept the link when i changed region. and the Product Registration Survey for Kokuga showed up in my Club Nintendo account.

I wouldn't do it just to be safe, if what you put down is true then Nintendo is stopping people from switching their country of residence just to get stuff not available to them :/

Well, your NNID is bound to the country you registered it in, so you can't effectively change your region.

i havent registered any Nintendo network id yet, so i might still be able to get on the US eShop. i wonder is it still safe to do so, to chance my region while i still have CAD on it.

so i am faced with a dilemma

1. i want the new demos, but i cant do that until register NNID

2. i want to access the USA eShop to get Kokuga, but afraid to try it while i still have unused Canadian Currency

3. want to buy games on Sale until December with a new Canadian points card, but then there will be unused Money left over.

In that situation, I would finish of the CAD money and switch to the US eShop permanently providing you can easily use a Canadian credit card (Or however you personally add money to the eShop) to add US money. But if that's not an option buy Kokuga on the US eShop and switch back to Canada before linking a NNID. You should still have any CAD on your account intact based on previous reports from people who have done this with the European eShops

What would happen in this case:
1. You buy the game from the US eShop
2. Register a NNID and access the Canadian eShop
3. An update to the US game is released

Since you already registered a NNID to Canada, does that mean that you can no longer go to the US eShop and download the update? That would suck for things like Netflix or other stuff that international users download...

See I had another hypothetical situation like this one.
I own Resident Evil: Revelations which is M rated.
My NNID is set to my real age: 16
If an update were to come out, would I be able to download it even though Nintendo doesn't even let me look at M rated games.

My guess on both is no.

Thats weird, there are no parental settings that allow you to chose what you can look at?

Yep, it's the same in the Wii U. When I try to look at a M rated game on either eShop, and it will give you a message along the lines of "You do not have permission to view this content"

Tried messing with the Parental Controls on the Wii U, didn't help. Doubt it would on the 3DS

Tried messing with the Parental Controls on the Wii U, didn't help. Doubt it would on the 3DS

I know you prob wouldnt want to make another account. But this is one of the reasons my birth year used to be 10 years before >.> Just a hint for the future.

Usually I'm one to do that too, but I don't mind it too much. It doesn't stop me from playing SMT IV (cart) and my previously downloaded RE: A and that's good. But now I'll have to wait awhile to play Ace Attorney 5 but I'll probably be 18 once I finish AA 2-4 anyway

uugh.. i just tried changing the region settings and
the warning screen said something like

#1. if you re-download a game, you will have to switch
back to the region you bought the game first.

#2. your club ninendo account is not available in the new region setting.
if you proceed, you club nintendo account will be unlinked.

does that mean if i bought a USA game and add a NNID, im Screwed if i need an update?
and if i did buy from USA eShop i wouldent get club nintendo points?

i really wish Koruga would freakin come to the Canadian eshop allready. i want to support G-Rev so they will release Retro Game Challenge 3.

"in some cases, it may not be possible to redownload software titles with your updated country setting. in such cases, switch back to your previous country setting to redownload software titles."

so, since changing region with a NNID will delete all your games and unused funds, this means that your pretty much screwed if you travel or just want a game from a different region.

ok guys, i decided to go ahead and try it. here are the results:

-Canadians can access the USA eShop by changing region.
-must order a USA eShop card online, about $25 Cad for $20 card.

-it appears the only game not available on Canadian eShop is Kokuga
-Kokuga plays fine regardless of region settings.
-but you CANNOT Re-Download Kokuga from the Canadian eShop. it will just give a prompt saying "Error, not available".

-i assume linking a NNID, WILL Destroy you ability to change regions, meaning all Non-US people can NEVER get a Demo or free apps without screwing yourself.

Thats why im just gonna make a NNID when and if we can make more than one account.

nope. all the NA 3DS's are the same, but eShop is different if you put your region to Canada, Brazil, etc. of course the only noticeable difference is Kokuga is missing, and Hulu Plus app.

oddly enough, Brazil has Kokuga as does all of Europe, but not Canada.

i dont even thiink it would work with multiple accounts, all the content would be linked to each individual account. and the warning screen says deleting a NNID deletes all games associated with the account and any money.

hopefully pokemon bank wont be free app, so it wont require NNID. and maybe we dont need pokemon bank, i heard it was going to be a paid service.
