With the amount of people who have probably already updated at this point, if the hack is ever released it will probably end up like DSi mode and DS2 specific honebrew - in other words, a very small amount of homebrew and not much interest.

If there's something you need/want to do that requires an update, might as well, but don't just update for the sake of updating.

Actually, there is one big reason to update. You will get the best performance and you'll be able to access eShop. If any exploit is released, just stop updating and wait them to release the exploit for your version.

Personally I find the updates useful, the browser looks much nicer now, faster and smoother and the eshop seems to load better as well, besides, most games will need you to update, like it or not, so unless people are planning on not updating their systems then they might as well stop buying new games, just saying. z.z

Hey guys, I just found the cure to cancer! It can save millions of lives!

But... I can't share it, since it also unlocks complete mind control on those cured. Gotta do a bit more research until its ready. You understand?
Except they haven't made any announcements. The only reason we know about this is because people asked them in IRC multiple times (as in, went and personally asked them), which is also how we know they're not going to release it.

The only people we know of that are actually making any progress have stated that they will not release the hack they've been working on. They've told us this a few times over multiple months.
I know, but there make a possible hack the 3ds demo e-shop for cut the limitation and transform into a unlimited playable demo use via Hex editor? as i know those files are encrypted but if we modify in hex editor program to found this limitation wil not apear or simply the game would damage?

Hex editing the program would change it, the encryption/signatures would be invalid, the 3DS would not run it.

I get it but if we see how to change those bites or something very carefully maybe should do work. right now i updated my 3ds to the lasted version getting less lag playing some games and major support internet as well.
You made a good choice, waiting around for phantom homebrew is outweighed by the features that the latest updates brought..

Also, the ability to play Pokemon when it is released is a very good reason to update. This isn't the PSP. That gives so many people the wrong idea about firmware. Nintendo anticipated hacks, and the update shows they can still block them. The flashcart makers aren't going to be interested because they won't be able to use the hack for piracy on later firmwares. Acekard is a perfect example. The 3DS kept blocking their card and they just gave up, cut and ran. The same can be said with the iEvolution. It got blocked shortly after release and they just vanished. In both cases, they made off with plenty of money. The websites selling the cards are the ones that get stuck with useless stock.

What I understood (and I'm not a very good source of info on this) is that they were still looking for ANOTHER exploit since this one was so easy to patch over. Now that it HAS been patched over, there's just the slight possibility that they will never find another exploit and will have to just stick with this one. If that's the case and they eventually decide to release it, only those who stayed back at a pre-5.x firmware would be able to use it and, just in case, those who wanted to be safe would be advised to not update.

It just takes time, if you can't hack it yourself then just wait. The 3ds will be hacked sooner or later. The problem is how long will it take. Many of us (like myself) are quite impatient waiting for somebody else to do something we can't do. I truly believe that these people aren't the only ones who found an exploit and took advantage of it. Though most won't admit it, many people here simply want homebrew to pirate games for free, hell even I'll confess that I would love to be able to get free 3ds games. It's human nature, why pay for a game when you can get it for free. Supporting the developers isn't a valid excuse. As for the update, I agree to what others already said, if you have a good reason to update then do it, but don't update just for the hell of it.
