there's a lot of conflicting opinions about which PSP model is the best, 1000, 2000, 3000, or GO.
after spending hours reading reviews on the net i ended up buying All 4 different PSPs.
so here is my thoughts on the matter.

for me the 3000 and GO are TIED.

the X000's are pretty much the same except for 1.Hack-Ability, 2. Screen quality
the 2000 screen has ghosting, 3000 has Artifacts, and GO appears Smaller. there all shyt.
well screen artifacts arent nearly as bad as Ghosting, IMHO. and the Temporary CFW, Pro-B7,
is actually Better than ME-6 because you can switch to OFW on the fly, its the best of both worlds.
and really, it only takes 2 seconds to load CFW, i dont mind loading it every time.

but i still want Bluetooth PS3 sixaxis, Pause function and a Button Cover when im on the Go.
i wont buy M2 cards just use the 16GB onboard. and UMD Support means absolutly Nothing to me.
so ill keep my PSP-GO, for a portable, and i have my 3000 permanetly plugged into the Plasma TV.
if i handle the 3000 with kid gloves it should be fine. so between the GO and 3000 i have a perfect system.

(think you cant tell difference in screens? play Dungeon Explorer on 3000 and 2000)

the PSP-1000 is a beast, its huge and weighs a Ton. it has Less RAM, the D-Pad is not as good, and the
screen is worst, its almost black and white compared to 3000. but it may be easier to find accessories for
it. also you can remove and replace the analog nub, somewhat useful, but who cares.

the PSP-2000 has the distinction of being Fully Hackable and Pandora compatible. its more durable
software and hardware wise. but the screen is not very good compared to later models.

the PSP-3000 is very delicate, hardware and software wise. i bought a brand new 3000 which had a
Stuck/Dead Pixel out of box! unnacceptable. and the casing feel really cheap compared to older models,
i can almost hear the plastic creaking when you hold it. now the paint is starting to peel off. and if you
Brick it your screwed cause Pandora battery isnt compatible. But the SCREEN is the best of all PSP
models. its so bright and vibrant it makes the 1000 screen look like a pile of puke.

the PSP-Go cannot really be compared to other models, because of the battery situation. its great for
the daily commute or for waiting at the DMV, but if your going anywhere Long Distance, you want to carry
several extra batteries. it could really be seen as a cheaper iPhone alternative. because its smaller but
not serviceable, you'll never take it apart and be able to put it back together again or even install a new
battery. thats where it loses points. another problem is the AV out Port. you cannot use TV Out and
charge it at the same time because they use the same port. and it uses M2 cards instead of ProDuo,
so you cant use Cheaper ProDuo cards.

on the other hand, GO has 16GB built in and its exactly the same price on ebay as a beat up 2000 with
no memory. the GO also has a Pause/Resume Game function like savestates for psp. and has Blutooth,
so you can play it with a PS3 Controller.

i Absolutely Love the Design / Layout of the PSP GO. More Gameboy, Less GameGear.
i hated the button layout of old PSPs because the analog was too close to Down and Home buttons,
i kept hitting the Home button at crucial points in the game. and i like the go's "Clicky" buttons rather
than old "squishy" buttons. and the analog is now right in the center, perfect thumb length. and the
best part is you can Flick it down and have the precious analog protected at all times.

now, the Go screen is a point of contention for me, i know its the same resolution, i know its brighter,
i know it dosent suffer from the ghosting of 2000, or the artifacts of 3000, but it just seems so damn
SMALL. i dont know why, but i always reach for the 3000 when im at home.

I just love the look of scanlines in the morning

Ghosting in comparison looks much more acceptable.

There's no definitive best for everyone....and the Go certainly isn't the best model. The fully hackable 2000 still takes the win in most people's books as it's still the model with the best battery life and nicest build.

Horrible build (worst of all iterations) and no wifi give it a strong start at being awful...

Same goes for the PSP Go. That damn thing needs baby hands to be comfortablly held. I remember when people used to call it a failure and now that it's hackable, it's becoming the top PSP somehow. I honestly think the PSP E1000 came in the wrong time, it would've done better if it came before and it's not as horrible as people describe it.

Freakin GREAT,,, Now i have to buy a E1000 to complete the review! nuts.

i would pay maybe $50 US for a E1000 on ebay.
well, it says an improved screen but poor build quality, bigger size...

if it fixes the scanlines of 3000 itd be good. like i said, if i handle it with
kid gloves and never take it outside itd be fine.
the bigger and lighter part might make it easier to hold,
but then again theres a plastic handle grip for 3000, so...

This thread seems to actually be useful, so I'll round up my favourites:

1. The 200x Series (Pre-Datecode 8b)
+Fully hackable and Pandora-ready
+Much slimmer and lighter than the 100x series
+Improved screen
+Improved battery life

2. The PSP Go
+Built-in memory
+Smaller size makes it a better portable
+No UMD drive ammounts for much higher battery life
-I would much rather have a Memory Stick Pro Duo slot instead of an M2 slot, but that's a minor issue
-No UMD slot also means no game dumping, which is unfortunate
-Integrated battery obviously means that it is not Pandora-ready, thus susceptible to full bricks
-IPL cannot be modified, thus Perma CFW is only available up to 6.20
-The UART port is different than in the 200x and 300x models, thus it needs a different headset and TV-Out cables
-No USB port means it's not compatible with PSP Add-ons

3. The 300x series
+Further improvements of the screen
+Integrated microphone lets you forget about the expensive Sony's headset as far as Skype and other voice services are concerned
-It isn't Pandora-ready, thus susceptible to full bricks
-IPL cannot be modified, thus Perma CFW is only available up to 6.20

4. The 100x series
+Fully Pandora-ready
+Has an IR port, which can be useful in homebrew applications
+Obviously a fantastic collectible!
+The UMD tray is opened with a slider unlike in later models, feels much firmer
+Superb built quality. It feels solid...
-...unfortunatelly the materials used made the console bulkier and heavier, but that can be forgiven - it's the first PSP ever afterall
-Has only 32MB of RAM, effectively making loading times longer. It also has less Memory for HighMemMod homebrew such as Go!Tube
-The UART port is different than in the 200x and 300x models, thus it needs a different headset which can be a tall order nowadays
-No TV-Out capability

5. The 200x series (Post-Datacode 8b)
-Basically an inferior 300x, not worth the time

6. The PSP Street
-Terrible built quality. The plastic feels like it's about to break any second
-No WiFi
-Mono sound
-No cover on the MS Pro Duo slot equals dust in the slot. It's a portable, people take it outside, Sony...
-The sheer bulk of the system. This could be forgiven in the 100x, the PSP was only just starting off, but now it's just being lazy and cheap
-Integrated battery obviously means that it is not Pandora-ready, thus susceptible to full bricks
-IPL cannot be modified
-The USB port is not dead center on the console, which may make using the camera quite awkward
-No serial port

Really nice, but I wouldn't base my opinion on hackability. E1000 cannot be perma patched on 6.20 by the way, only 6.60 PRO-B10.

I have a launch PSP-1000 and I don't know anything about comparison. It is really nice. But is the screen the best or the worst? And is there any system I should buy as a backup that is fully hackable? I'm wondering because my PSP-1000 is from launch so it is pretty old. Hardware doesn't last forever.

It's the worst screen out of the lot, but at least it's fully hackable. If you really want a backup PSP, then have a look at my list. In doubt, ask. Just pick the one which has the features that are most attractive to you.

It looks like either early 2000 series or any 3000 series model. I guess going with 3000 series would be the best bet.

Not necessarily. The early Japanese 1000's came in two varieties - Sharp and Samsung. If you have one of those you may have a screen which is almost comparable (although a little duller) than the 2000's.

Sounds like a good choice, but before you do that, do take a round around your local pawn shops. You just MIGHT find an early 200x, and it's the best one to buy if you like to f*ck about with firmwares and don't want to end up with an expensive paperweight.

Thus still worse than the 200x... sooo... that doesn't negate what I said.
