Who here thinks the 3ds will have the same effect on people like the ds lite did when it first came out, and the main draw being that it will be the only device of displaying real 3d without glasses of course.

.....the best game line up out there doesn't hurt also.

Wait, how is that like the DS Lite?

The Lite was the second version of the DS and it didn't bring anything new to the table like the 3DS is doing.

it's the only version that actually sold lol

...No. You just see everyone with a DS Lite because people are all about the "OH THIS THING IS SKINNER SO I MUST REBUY THE SAME PRODUCT". Sure it's brighter and lighter but the build quality is terribly compared to the Phat.

You're not making a good comparison here.

15 million DSes were sold before the Lite even came out, I would hardly call that not selling.

The Phat didn't really have good build quality either. I've seen a lot of people with a broken right hinge including myself.

that's basically what i said

some people are just too slow.
Which we are all saying is incorrect. I mean, yes, it is an upgraded version of the last generation, but it's still very distinct from it.

EDIT: Curse you bad grammar.

3DS is hardly a simple "upgrade" to either DS or DSi. Since it has for starters-

- analog stick
- dedicated GPU that can be compared to Gamecube or Wii (with better shaders from current gen consoles)
- superior wifi
- much higher resolution on BOTH screens
- (IGN news) dual ARM11 cpu's clocked at 266mhz each
- (IGN news) 64MB ram
- (IGN news) 1.5GB internal flash storage

The system is about as much of an upgrade as going from the N64 to the Gamecube, if not more. Which is a more or less decent comparison considering many people are comparing the DS and its variations to the N64 and the 3DS to a portable Gamecube (with better shaders).

Get your facts strait. People will buy the system for totally different reasons than upgrading from a DS to a Lite. They'll buy it because it's a completely new generation of handheld.

I've owned my Phat for probably 4 years and that thing has been dropped, thrown, slammed, and more, but it's still pretty damn good. The only problem with mine is that a piece of what keeps it on the hinge broke off, but it's hardly a problem. Compared to a DS Lite that will have hinges and shoulder buttons break within 2 years (from most reports), I can say the DS Phat is definitely built better. Probably not as solid as the GBC and original GB but still pretty nice.

The OP is just trying to troll.

Yep, I've had my original DS for over five and a half years now and there's nothing wrong with it other than a few scratches on the touch screen.

Nothing can beat the Phat in terms of DS toughness, but i was actually pleasantly surprised by the Lite's resilience. Careful though i am about my electronics, i make mistakes as everyone does. Managed to drop my Lite on a hardwood floor TWICE. No negative consequences in terms of function. Some very slight scuffing on the top clamshell surface, but very minor. Still worked great! DS Phat is legendary for its sturdiness though. Not as much so as the original B/W Gameboy brick, but damn respectable.
