It would certainly make my day if someone on my train (my commute's roughly 40 minutes) started playing wii sports on the train. Or better yet: wii fit.

But seriously: it sounds like an awefull lot of money forsomething that is essentially a gimmick. You can get a decent laptop for less than half that price. I'd say get that one. Guilt's right: with the amount of emulators you can run from it (not to forget regular PC games), it should provide you with more than enough entertainment.

I already have a netbook.

As for the Wii, it won't be the sports games. Even though that would be funny. It would more of the Metroids, RE Games and so on. Hopefully something that does not require retarded motions.

RE4 requires "retarded motions" through the action sequences. Thought I'd warn ya.

Still, there are overall better alternatives. Can't really say much else. I'd have plenty of fun just playing solitaire on a computer.

Make a portable, 1 unit system that plays Wii, Xbox360, Gamecube and PS3!
Throw in also Dreamcast, PS2, 1, and N64 and SNES, Genesis, NeoGeo, NES!
Now yer talkin!
Go to your room.

I say its not worth it. You cant find games out of the 4500+ Ds dumps? and i dont know how many Psp isos are out there. But the games on the wii arent any better. Having a personal lappy wii would be cool at first, but i feel the novelty would wear off and you would get bored quick. and you would be out of a grand.

So far I think I have beat every good PSP game (not to many of them are really that good).

I beat almost all of the good NDS games. So that is why I was thinking of doing this.

It would have been nice to beat all the Zledas, metroids and so on.

I suggest him to save 1,300 for used car if he is planning to have a drive license. The laptop is not the answer for the pricey as long as he have a computer then he dont need a portable!

you are going to look like a right prat waving your hands around on the metro lol just buy a portable handheld, that is what they are made for, and just buy a normal wii and keep it at work, so if you have a break or something you can play it at your office? just a idea.

Just buy a nice laptop to emulate a Wii?

Yeah, I looked into that, no good laptops can emulate the Wii yet. I may not do this. The more I think of it, the more I think I won't do it.

I agree with everyone else still. Don't bother with a Wii portable. It'd just end up being a huge waste of money. There aren't enough Wii games to make a $1300 purchase justified.

Though I also have to say, most of the comments you're going to get here are from 13 year olds who can't read. I feel stupid for saying that considering how blatantly obvious it is after reading most of the thread. But yeah, you probably wont find a whole hell of a lot of insight here.

What this whole thing comes down to is: Do YOU think you will get $1300 worth of fun out of a Wii portable? List the games you'd like to play to yourself, and be able to play in public (without looking like a crack addict). That pretty much should = a decision. If the thing could play gamecube games, it'd knock the worth up decently. There are a lot of good GC games, all which can be played without looking odd.
Except mario party with the mic enabled.

to be honest as cool as a portable wii would be I'd just feel like a total failure pulling out a wii laptop out of my bag on a train or bus, and sitting there with my wiimote and nunchuk playing videogames.

Whether you consider yourself a nerd or not, it's going to make you look like a total recluse because people are gonna think that you're so obsessed with playing videogames that you have to play them while you're out as well as at home. Rather than the truth, which is you just want a fun distraction on the inevitably boring journey to work.

I feel like enough of a geek as it is occasionally playing my DS lite whilst on the bus to uni, makes me feel like a big kid. I have no shame in my love for videogames, I just want to be left alone whilst on the bus and not have people staring at me! (or have some little toddler shout out loud on the bus, 'look mum, he's got a DS!' whilst pointing at me

If only the world wasn't so judgemental!

In short, get yourself an mp3 player or a good book and leave the gaming for at home.

Yup that is what I was thinking. I initially was going to get a GC portable as I can get one of those for close to $800. But then I thought, I may as well shell out a bit more and get a Wii Laptop since I get Wii Games and GC games, not to mention the awesome Wiiware that has been coming out lately. I never owned a GC so there are at least 10 or so games I would like to beat on that system. WiiWare has about 6 or 7 games. Wii has close to 10 or so games I haven't beat yet. So in total, almost 30 games. 30/1300 is about $43.33 a game.

I am not really concerned about the way I look any longer to be honest. I currently use my netbook to play N64 games on the train with a XBOX360 controller. Granted with that, I don't wave around my Wiimote like a moron, but it still makes me look geeker. I figure I am married and have a kid. What the hell do I care if some one looks at me and says, geez what a nerd or whatever. The way I figure, I don't know them, and couldn't care less what they think. With the Netbook, I actually got comments like, you playing a 360? When I said no, they were like, that would be pretty cool. So I think the other commuters are just as bored as I am.

it isnt for him

dunno, 1000$ sounds alot, but i see myself spending that much on things, and it isnt' bad at all to spoil your son with something as expensive as that.

heck i'd do the same

If you ever build this, make sure to post some pictures, i hope the build goes well
