I agree with everyone else still. Don't bother with a Wii portable. It'd just end up being a huge waste of money. There aren't enough Wii games to make a $1300 purchase justified.
Though I also have to say, most of the comments you're going to get here are from 13 year olds who can't read. I feel stupid for saying that considering how blatantly obvious it is after reading most of the thread. But yeah, you probably wont find a whole hell of a lot of insight here.
What this whole thing comes down to is: Do YOU think you will get $1300 worth of fun out of a Wii portable? List the games you'd like to play to yourself, and be able to play in public (without looking like a crack addict). That pretty much should = a decision. If the thing could play gamecube games, it'd knock the worth up decently. There are a lot of good GC games, all which can be played without looking odd.
Except mario party with the mic enabled.
Yup that is what I was thinking. I initially was going to get a GC portable as I can get one of those for close to $800. But then I thought, I may as well shell out a bit more and get a Wii Laptop since I get Wii Games and GC games, not to mention the awesome Wiiware that has been coming out lately. I never owned a GC so there are at least 10 or so games I would like to beat on that system. WiiWare has about 6 or 7 games. Wii has close to 10 or so games I haven't beat yet. So in total, almost 30 games. 30/1300 is about $43.33 a game.
QUOTE(hughjass @ Feb 21 2010, 03:10 PM) to be honest as cool as a portable wii would be I'd just feel like a total failure pulling out a wii laptop out of my bag on a train or bus, and sitting there with my wiimote and nunchuk playing videogames.
Whether you consider yourself a nerd or not, it's going to make you look like a total recluse because people are gonna think that you're so obsessed with playing videogames that you have to play them while you're out as well as at home. Rather than the truth, which is you just want a fun distraction on the inevitably boring journey to work.
I feel like enough of a geek as it is occasionally playing my DS lite whilst on the bus to uni, makes me feel like a big kid. I have no shame in my love for videogames, I just want to be left alone whilst on the bus and not have people
staring at me! (or have some little toddler shout out loud on the bus, 'look mum, he's got a DS!' whilst pointing at me
)
If only the world wasn't so judgemental!
In short, get yourself an mp3 player or a good book and leave the gaming for at home.
