Plus Genecyst is still one of the coolest emulators ever made, and had a lot of great features for the time it was made.

You're not getting the point. He's doing because it can be done, simply for the lulz. Accuracy does not matter.

BTW, anyone that has never tried the Genecyst emulator should run DOSBox and try it out. It was one of the best early Genesis emulators, and is still one of the best of all time.

  6. brienj replied to the thread File Manager Wii U?.

Yes, even if you do that. When I dumped my games, I still had to transfer the dump files to the PC and create installation files out of them. You can't just dump directly to the NAND and have it installed, it must be installed with the system...

Create a developer account at Nintendo, get the SDK, and you can use the tool in that as well.

  8. brienj replied to the thread File Manager Wii U?.

When an app is installed, it uses the special files made for installing, so you have to have the correct installation files, but let's say you install an app that is 10GB in size, you would actually need 20GB free, because if you bypassed the SD...

  9. brienj liked Cyan's post in the thread What's the difference between mocha and sys2patcher?.

signpatcher IS a custom firmware in the same sense than other system patchers : it patches the firmware to replace/edit some original functions. it has less features than mocha, but for the end user who only wish to install or play a wiiu game...

  11. brienj replied to the thread File Manager Wii U?.

No, the typical reason is because you can NOT have two USB drives plugged in at the same time, and there are a lot of people that actually have a USB with games installed on them, and you can't just unplug it and plug another one in. Also, when...

  12. brienj replied to the thread [Guide] Felek's redNAND-free Wii U Hacking.

For the average user, either Mocha or Haxchi CFW is fine, it's just for some of my personal homebrew that I have to use Mocha. And it's not really a matter of that I have to, but because I'm too lazy to add all the extra code to be able to use...

I'm far from 300 files to load on my SD :p But thanks for all these info, and sorry for saying mocha was not required and could be replaced completely with sigpatcher. I see it's useful for other homebrew.

  14. brienj replied to the thread [Guide] Felek's redNAND-free Wii U Hacking.

It probably is, but to see the effects of how much of a speed up CFW brings you for SD reading, put about 300 ROMs or more in a folder on your SD card, and then run the RetroArch emulator for that system and try loading a ROM from that folder....

  15. brienj replied to the thread Region Changed via RedNand - Inquiry.

If you just want RedNAND for region-free, no, you don't need RedNAND for that. RedNAND is useful to people that want to change system files on their Wii U without fear of bricking their real NAND, but if you use CBHC, you are already modifying...
