At first glance, the boxart looks quite nice, and cutesy…But what’s that? The genre is Fishing RPG? Weird!

Then again… this game is of made up of weirdness with the sick sister, the forest monsters and the fishing.

Storyline:
The following scene is played out for you, you just watch and press A at appropriate points. When the game starts up for the first time you are greeted by Sasura. He invites you to go and have breakfast with Yunna who happens to be your sister. You go to the house and she isn’t in what seems to be the main room. So you go and look into the bedroom and there she is sleeping… Then for some reason you decide to start shaking the bed to wake her up, it doesn’t work, but she is definitely asleep and not dead. Then Sasura walks in and tries waking her up himself. At this point the two characters are getting worried you and Sasura move into the main room and start talking. He says that there is no point waiting there and we should go to the forest and find out about the rumoured monsters. Upon getting there he shows you how to fish including the…

Controls:
This game can be played using stylus or d-pad and buttons (except for reeling fish in) or a combination of the two. I personally preferred d-pad and buttons for everything except the battle sequence with the fish (which you can only use the stylus). Press L to whip out your rod and A to cast it straight in front of you. Then press A when you’ve got a bite, and to reel the line in a little closer to you then its Y. Use D-Pad (or stylus) for moving your character and A for interaction. Controls are nice and fluent.

Gameplay:
Well… the aim of the game is to fish, ignore the fact that Yunna is sick and just get fishing, then get yourself a pet monster child that likes to eat fish. You can earn money for buying bait and such, which improves your fishing skills and the fish you catch.
The fishing experience can be rather relaxing. You'll need to have a bit of patience, though.

Graphics and Audio:
The game is styled like most other Natsume titles.
It's got the Japanese cutesy look to it.
The audio is usually the sound of water flowing and the odd bird cheeping, quite relaxing when you’re waiting for a fish to bite. The footsteps and speaking isn’t so relaxing though, just strange noises really.

I do actually quite like this game and it makes a nice time killer.

This mini-review of the game may be a week or so late, but I thought'd I'd go ahead and do it anyway.

Okami is an adventure game, originally released on the PS2.
This game, though not necessarily an enhanced port, holds up pretty well to the original.
So, how's the game like? Graphics? Gameplay? Controls? Sound? Read on in this mini-review to find out!

Graphics:
The graphics look absolutely gorgeous, even for a Wii game.
I've never seen a style quite like this one.
I'm really impressed. As far as I know, it's the only one with a graphics system like this one. It looks as though the graphics are color painted.
Overall, it's got a nice, refreshing look to it.

Gameplay:
The gameplay is very fun. A lot of other websites reviewing Okami say the gameplay
reminds them of the games from the Zelda games, and I quite agree.
There are a lot of challenging bosses and challenging puzzles throughout the adventure.
The game's main story lasts a long time - lasting at least thirty-five hours!

Controls:
Compared to the PS2 version of Okami, the controls are a bit more difficult.
With the PS2 controller, you simply press buttons to do things.
With the Wii remote - it's quite different.
You need to sort of develop a skill for drawing a straight line, which may take some time and practice.
Drawing a straight line with a pencil is hard - much less a Wii remote!
At first, the different motions can get frustrating, and sometimes down right annoying as they're either unresponsive or painful to perform. Once you get the hang of it, however, you'll build up the muscle memory and the different motions will become less painful and easier to perform.
The controls aren't necessarily bad, they just take a little time to get used to.

Sound:
The sound is absolutely spectacular.
It's fitting, and doesn't getting annoying as you play along the long story, like some adventure games do.

To sum it up, Okami is a gorgeous-looking, Zelda-like adventure for the Wii.
The puzzles are challenging, as well as the bosses.
The sound is fitting, but unfortunately, the controls take a bit of time to get used to.
Running the main story will keep you wrapped up for a long time!
I recommend this game to any Wii console owner.

Ever wished you could play the first ten seconds of the Metal Gear Solid theme on the piano? Don't lie, of course you have. Enter Game Melody Oratorio. Through visual demonstration, and simple drills, Game Melody aims to teach you the first bits of all your favorite video game tunes.

Game Melody is nicely presented. Games are represented in the multi-page menu with smoothly shopped icons. Tapping one of these icons brings up additional information on the top screen, including the game's name, the name of the track, the composer, and a difficulty rating (gauged as stars on the right side of the top screen). Tapping the "P" in the top left will play a short sample. Double-tapping brings you to a new menu --practice or recital.

Practice mode leads off with a demonstration of the melody, with the respective keys being highlighted on the virtual piano as it plays. Once familiarized with the tune, you will be subjected to a set of four drills. The first requires you to just play the keys in order. Training wheels are still on, the next key will be highlighted as you go. Drill number two just gives you the note name, leaving it to you to find the correct key (although the notes are displayed along the top and bottom of the keyboard throughout). Third drill you have all the notes written across the top screen, meaning you have to keep track of your place. Finally, drill four takes the third drill, and randomly hides five notes. At any time during the drills you can press the "Demo" button to have Game Melody visually replay the track.

Once you feel you've mastered the melody, its time for Recital Mode. Eyes are on you, play the track correctly without any help to receive a shiny ribbon of completion. Fail, and be booed off the stage and subjected to a life of shame (or just practice some more!) On DLDI-compatible carts a list of your completed songs will be saved, with the aforementioned ribbon appearing when the song is highlighted from the main menu. In addition to the Practice and Recital modes, there is also a Free Play mode (where you get to just mess with the virtual piano), and a Recital Challenge (play three random melodies in a row).

Game Melody Oratorio is a fantastic tool for quickly learning small bits of video game themes. I've never touched a piano in my life, and ten minutes later it had me playing "Bloody Tears" from Castlevania IV. Try it out!

Yesterday (May 2nd), Columns III: Revenge of Columns was added to the European Virtual Console. Columns III: Revenge of Columns is a puzzle game, similar to the game Tetris. This game was originally available on the Sega Megadrive, and is now available in the European Wii Shop for the price of 900 Wii Points.

Only one Virtual Console game was released this week in the United States, Double Dragon.
Double Dragon is a beat 'em up game, an arcade classic that was ported to the NES.
Note that this game doesn't have the 2 player simultaneous option in the main game, unlike the arcade game and the Sega Master System versions.
The download price for this game is 500 Wii Points.

Final Soldier is a sci-fi shooter that was originally available on the TurboGrafx-16.
It was only available in Japan, so you now's your change to play it!
It's a sequel to the Star Soldier games. You'll fight through waves of enemies, until you reach the stage boss. Destroy the boss and proceed to the next level. That's basically what you do the entire game.
It has available for download in the European Wii Shop since yesterday (May 2nd), for the price of 700 Wii Points.

Gradius II is a horizontally-scrolling shoot 'em up for the TurboGrafx-16.
It never made it to western shores, so now is your chance to play it!
It was released for download in the European Wii Shop yesterday (May 2nd), and you can download it for the price of 900 Wii Points.

So I really wanted this and then closer to the release I feared the worst for it but I like this game. Nothing amazing, just mindless shooting. Music is good, sound effects are just meh but they work. Nice to have voice work during actual gameplay, very clear. Graphics do the job, nothing great but nothing bad. The camera is good on both ground & flying missions and I didn't have any problems moving around and killing people.

Nice job JPH, my only suggestion is that for the homebrew review, you should add a dl link for the file. If it's there and I missed it, my bad, sorry.

Good job on the River King review. I enjoyed this game also. Not earth-shattering by any means, but you described it perfectly in your review. It's a nice, relaxing "time killer"!

Click on the icon next to the Homebrew title.
You'll find a GBAtemp topic...that has the download and project homepage!

QUOTE(Lisa_ @ May 3 2008, 08:41 PM) Um, in the birthday section, AceGunman is spelt with a space is it not?

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.
