4.3 is really out. The guide be updated when homebrew updates arrive. If you somehow updated [facepalm], use a temporary workaround Since the majority of the people who use this guide are newcomers, it is better for people to use the Complete Softmod Guide because: People gain knowledge and experience of where the files can be obtained to modify a Wii. Learn the purpose of the programs used to modify a Wii. CompleteSoftmodGuide ↓ Actual guide below ↓ Foreword This guide was made as an aid for those experienced in the Wii hacking scene. It does not tell you what each & every program does, just a straight up list of directions. The guide is based on 1 file packs, which means all the files needed to modify a Wii are in 1 file. The method of obtaining the files needed for this mod isn't completely legitimate obviously because it contains copyrighted materials [aka WAD files.] It works, you know where you get the files, if you know what you're doing, go for it. Updates: 6/20/2010 *Added videos. [courtesy of burritoboy9984] 5/17/2010 *Cleaned up MMM section a bit. *Updated cIOS.zip [untested!] *Updated MMM to 13.2. *Updated Priiloader to 0.4. *Changed IOS249 to use IOS38 as base IOS. [WAD installation support] *Changed IOS250 to use IOS57 as base IOS. *Added Hack Suggestions for Priiloader. Disclaimer I consider this guide direct, forthright, frank, genuine, just, sincere, unconcealed, distinct, uncomplicated, palpable, blunt, & understandable. Consider yourself lucky because you even found this guide, it cant get any simpler than this. I repeat these steps over & over when I'm uber faded, so I'm pretty sure everybody can accomplish this. If you feel uncomfortable/scared to attempt this, then Wii hacking isn't for you. Code Dumps [DSI errors] & Black Screens experienced throughout the guide, if any, are random & harmless for the most part. Simply hold the power button for 4 seconds & try again. I cannot stress this enough, people need to read this one word at a time The steps seem repetitive & similar at times, but they are not! Guide is completely offline. Required - SD card [preferably non-sdhc] with around 700mb free [600mb for NAND backup, 100mb everything else] - PC with internet connection & SD card reader. - Wii [to mod] Objectives: 1] Update your wii to the latest firmware. 2] Install the Homebrew Channel, Bootmii, & DVDX onto your wii. 3] Enable the trucha bug your Wii for homebrew to operate correctly. 4] Install custom IOS 202, 222 & 223 [Hermes v4], 249 & 250 [Waninkoko v19] to your wii. 5] Allow your Wii to play Wii backups through a backup loader, directly from the disc channel, &/or via usb. 6] Play Wiiware & Virtual Console games off the sd card menu. Update to 4.2 Follow this if your not on 4.2 yet, it will update all of your IOS's & System menu to the latest firmware. Setting up the SD Card 1st download the precompiled link update.zip for your region by emailing simplisticmod@gmail.com Extract the "update.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii. Installing The Homebrew Channel & Bootmii Run bannerbomb by going to the Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX [optional], & Bootmii as IOS & boot2 if possible. Update to 4.2 Run Yet Another WAD Manager Mod from The Homebrew Channel. Scroll down the list to find & install: *Really important stuff here! Do not skip or alter steps in any way!* IOS70-64-v6687.wad & System Menu-NUS-v481.wad [NTSC-J = v480; PAL = v482] Then proceed to install the remaining 22 different IOS files & Shopping Channel-NUS-v18.wad by pressing + on each one then A to install them. It should say 23 files will be installed. *End.* You can then erase everything from the update.zip & setup everything from the modify.zip Advance to the Modify 4.2 section to reinstall The Homebrew Channel so it can run under the correct IOS. Modify 4.2 The actual hacking guide. Only will work for those on a 4.2 firmware. Setting up the SD Card 1st download the precompiled link modify.zip by emailing simplisticmod@gmail.com Extract the "modify.zip" & put the files onto a SD card & insert the SD card into the Wii. The modify.zip should come with MMM and Priiloader. If it does not, e-mail modifyanywii@gmail.com for the updated package. Installing The Homebrew Channel & Bootmii Run bannerbomb by going to the SD Card menu & choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf This runs the Hackmii Installer from which you should install the Homebrew Channel, DVDX [optional], & Bootmii as IOS & boot2 if possible. Making a NAND backup Restart your Wii, if Bootmii was installed as boot2, then it will show up as soon as the Wii is turned on. If Bootmii was only installed as an IOS, then it must be loaded by pressing home in the HBC & clicking Launch Bootmii. Press the power button on the wii 3 times to get to the last option, then press the reset button. [You can also navigate with a gc controller.] Press reset to choose the first option, & then follow the directions on the screen to make your NAND backup. [Bad blocks are no problem.] Backup the Bootmii folder, NAND.bin, & keys.bin elsewhere & erase from the sd card. [or rename it.] Head back to The Homebrew Channel. Restoring the Trucha Bug, Removing Stub IOS's, Installing cIOS & Patching the System Menu IOS Run MMM [Multi-Mod Manager] On the main menu, go down to select Install & Patch IOS36 and press A. Choose Express Mode and press A. Press any button to return to the main menu. When back on the main menu, go down to select Remove stubbed IOSs and press A. Press A to choose remove stub IOS 222, 223, 249, 250, 254. Press any button to return to the main menu. When back on the main menu, press right to go to WAD manager. Press 1 to select all the WAD's then A to install them. Press any button to return to WAD manager. Priiloader optional brick protection; recommended if Bootmii is only installed as an IOS. When back in WAD manager, press 2 to launch the APP launcher. Press A on Priiloader and press + to install Priiloader. Restart your Wii while holding reset. Enable desired hacks and save. Hack Suggestions: Auto press A at health screen, Block disc updates, Block online updates, Remove NoCopy save file protection, Recovery mode press d-pad..., Region free everything. After Modding Read here for instructions on how to use The Homebrew Channel & play backup games. Now at this point your almost done. Now you should be downloading the latest homebrew applications & setting them up on your SD Card so they can be launched via the Homebrew Channel. Wiibrew.org is a website that has information on the latest apps. For downloading applications, you should: 1] Download Homebrew Browser to get many popular apps & keep them up to date, but this is an online only application 2] For those without internet, check out this list of Homebrew applications & get the latest emulators, media players, & utilities. After getting whatever apps you want, you should get a boot.dol file & possibly a icon.png & meta.xml. ![]() This file is basically the executable that runs the program on your Wii. This boot.dol goes in a custom named folder in the folder on the root of your SD Card. For HBC to read your SD correctly, your card must be structured SD:apps/application name/boot.dol Here is an example of the folder on my SD Card ![]() In every folder, there is a boot.dol, icon.png, & meta.xml. For playing your disc backups, you should either: 1] Download NeoGamma & set it up on your SD card. 2] Download Softchip & set it up on your SD card. 3] Download DARKCORP for playing games directly through the disc channel. If you have a very new Wii & it fails to run DVD backups, you may have a drive with the new D3-2 chipset. They are incapable of reading dvd's of any sort. It can still play games via USB loaders with a hard drive or external USB DVD Drive. For playing your backups off a USB hard drive, check out the extra setup for USB loading to learn about the different USB loaders & how to set up your Hard Drive correctly to install games. You have IOS and system menu wad's in your download package. Also, shouldn't IOS60 be installed BEFORE you install the system menu wad? |

Might be a good idea to tell people to make a Nand backup before doing the next steps.

Didn't look to deep into it, but, when using TBR, i suggest:
Downgrade IOS15 Use IOS15 to install patched IOS36(trucha + identify) to IOS36 Restore IOS15 Without steps between. That's more easily to understand, but requires to select IOS36 in the cIOS installer, which is changing 3 letters in the guide. A patched IOS36 is required for the preloader installer anyways. |

so i should
-move the wad manager steps after tbr -change patching IOS249 to IOS36 with tbr. -change cios installer to use IOS36 instead. |

i wouldn't mention cioscorp for new people to use untill they know what they are doing.without cioscorp you can play from disc channel using preloader.pretty good and straight forward guide other then that.if they can't hack there wii with those directions they need to give up
Posts merged I have one question. How the best secure this type Wii from brick? BootMii is installed in IOS and Preloader its' all? as long as you don't delete your system menu preloader and bootmii as a ios is fine.make sure to make a nand backup. |
