Wii system menu 4.2 released!
Deletes and blocks homebrew

Nintendo has been so kind as to release system menu 4.2 for the Wii. This update will delete The Homebrew Channel, all cIOS files and remove bootmii from your system. It appears that all IOS files have been updated and a few new ones installed. Effectively, it will remove and all homebrew and iso loading capabilities from your console so for now we recommend not upgrading!

The update doesn't add any new functionality other than block homebrew. For now feel free to discuss the new update in our thread linked to below:

New Super Mario Bros. Wii release date
Coming November

Nintendo has sent out word that they have locked New Super Mario Bros. Wii into a 15th November release. The next Mario platforming title sees the style of New Super Mario Bros. on the DS jump onto the big screen with the addition of four player co-op.

Players will be able to manipulate the world with the help of the Wiimote. The game makes use of the tilt functionality to control platforms and lanterns. The big drawcard of the title is the four player gameplay, which looks to be a lot of fun. Two players will control Mario and Luigi and another two can take control of two Toad characters. Players can either help or hinder their friends as they choose. Fans of Super Mario World will also be happy to see ride-able Yoshi's return to the series. Thanks to dinofan01 for news the tipoff on the forums.

Am I the only one who wishes they could play this online with their friends though? Click on the spoiler tag to reveal some pictures of the game.

GBAtemp Community Roundup #2
Latest news from the forums

It's time again for another roundup of the latest news and tidbits from the murky depths of the GBAtemp forum. Take a look at what the talented GBAtemp community (that's you!) has been up to lately.

Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul Silver translations
Several GBAtemp members have been hard at work on English translation patches for the latest Pokemon games. Each project has different parts of the game translated with some focusing on just the menus and others on story translation.
The first major translation project was Raqib12's patch which is no longer in development. Although it isn't being worked on anymore the patch translates many of the menus and includes an English title screen.
However for those looking for the most up to date patch with nearly all the menus translated and work beginning on the dialog I suggest Kazo's patch. Many forum goers have switched to Kazo's patch since Raqib12 stopped developing his.
A german language patch is also being worked on so be sure to check that out as well as two as of yet unreleased translation patches. The first is Magnius's patch which focuses on translating the story and the second is PaperMagician's story patch which hopes to use google translation to automatically translate the entire game into Engrish. Should be fun!

Dingoo A320 unofficial review
An unofficial review of the handheld game and media device, the Dingoo A320, was posted earlier this month by p1ngpong. This excellent review tests out the powerful A320 device which is similar to a Gameboy Micro in design and can emulate many systems including GBA, SNES, Genesis/Megadrive, NES and NeoGeo. An official GBAtemp review of the handheld is also coming up in the not too distant future. Check out p1ngpong's review below.

Adverts on GBAtemp + server improvements
You may not be aware but GBAtemp has started a trial of Google Adsense ads across the portal and forums. One of the reasons our members might not have noticed is because the ads are only viewable by guests. Members who register for the forums will see no ads at all except for the list of affiliates on the portal.
The decision to include ads on GBAtemp wasn't an easy one. The simple fact of the matter is, the site isn't cheap to run. You may have noticed to website slowed to a crawl during the big releases like Pokemon and Mario & Luigi 3 and our server has been taking a battering for quite a while. Costello has worked his magic and tweaked the site to speed it up for now, but we still need to upgrade our hosting hardware. To help create a better GBAtemp experience for everyone we are trialing these ads. Remember if you sign up to the site (free registration) you wont be affect at all. I hope you all understand. For more detailed information check out shaunj66's blog post about the subject.

Acekard 2i firmware 1.4 fix
Update fixes DSi firmware 1.4 block

The eagerly anticipated Acekard 2i firmware update has been released, proving once and for all that the card is in fact update-able. This update fixes the compatibility of the card with DSi firmware 1.4.

Two update files are included in the download. Use the DSi labeled update to update your card. However, if you have multiple Acekard 2i cards that you wish to update all in a row then run the DSL update from a DS Lite to be able to update multiple cards without powering off the system. If you only have one card just use the DSi update.

DSi firmware 1.4 blocks flashcards!
Facebook photo uploads + faster camera

Nintendo has just released DSi firmware 1.4 which adds Facebook photo uploads, a faster camera and blocks flashcards. We'd suggest if you value using flashcards with your DSi you don't update.

Nintendo has signaled what we always suspected would be the case; they intend to start an arms race with flashcard makers and block their new DSi compatible cards with firmware updates. Now it's time to see how the flashcard makers respond. Some flashcards like the M3i Zero and Supercard DSONEi have updatable firmwares that potentially could save them from being blocked if the flashcard makers find a suitable workaround. Others like the iTouch2 can not be updated at all and will be useless on a DSi with firmware 1.4 and above. For now at least, DSi enhanced games don't require a certain firmware in order to be run.

The update is confirmed to be live in Europe, Japan and Australia so far.
