Supercard DSTWO announced
GBAtemp Exclusive

The Supercard team have today confirmed directly to GBAtemp.net that the development of the successor to the Supercard DSONE is now officially under way.

Their newest cart, unsurprisingly named the Supercard DSTWO, will be a mash up between the original DSONE and the hardware that was found in the iPlayer multimedia player. It will of course be DSi compatible, but will most likely not have 'i' in the title, but that is subject to change. That means you're going to have a cart on your hands that can play both Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance games without any additional hardware. There will also be a SNES emulator, but we have not yet had the chance to see this in action.

Alongside the built in emulators, the DSTWO will also boast a revamped real-time feature system, multi language options, slow motion and a file management system.

Here's the official feature list for the Supercard DSTWO:
QUOTE(Supercard Team)
1. RealTime Functions: RealTime Save, RealTime Game Guide(txt, bmp, jpg) & RealTime Cheat. (More stable, more easy to use, cheat code compatible with R4 and TT now)
2. Multi Saves (Up to 4 slot), Easy to backup and restore saves.
4. Unlimited MicroSD storage space support. SDHC support. FAT or FAT32.
5. Multiple languages (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Spanish)
6. Built-in GBA/SNES Emulator.
7. Action Slow Motion (4 levels,).
8. File Management System (Copy, Paste, Cut and Delete, long file name support).
9. eBook (BMP, JPEG, JPG, PNG, TIF, GIF, TXT, PDF).

Stay tuned to GBAtemp for further updates, including pictures and videos in the next couple of days and weeks.

First let me make this clear: this decision is the result of lengthy discussions between the three admins and all staff.

Secondly, yes, as of today there are a few Google AdSense placements on the portal, but before reading any further please take into account that these adverts WILL ONLY BE VISIBLE TO GUESTS. If you are logged in to your GBAtemp account which you get by registering for free, you will NOT ever see any adverts except our affiliated partners which have been with us for years. Let me guarantee to you that our treasured community of members will never be the ones made to suffer.

Anyway, as you may have noticed, lately GBAtemp has been suffering from minor and major slow downs right down to being completely offline. This happens not only during high traffic periods such as popular game releases, but even during non-peak times. Quite frankly, we don't think this is fair on our members. GBAtemp is an information resource and when we're not there for you, we're failing at what we do and not bringing in the new members that could contribute to our site.

In order to cope with the constant increase in visitors, registrations, posts and server hammering "F5'ers"; we've had to upgrade the server hardware and hosting plan countless times. In the last 3 years we've had over 6 different server and hosting set-ups, each considerably more powerful and expensive.

You may have recently noticed a massive increase in the speed at which the site runs, this is due to a number of optimisations and further hardware upgrades. But this all comes at a cost, and being a non-profit site we're unable to pay for all of it from the little money GBAtemp makes. Myself, Costello and Ace Gunman would love to be able to pay for the upgrades from our own pockets, but the truth is we're all financially unstable, and have normal full-time jobs to attend to and a number of bills to pay. The staff spend countless hours and days of our free time working on GBAtemp in order to better serve you.

We're currently trialling AdSense to see if it is a worthwhile investment. It may prove to be a complete failure in which case we'll either go back to how we were, or look into alternatives.

What will we do with the money if AdSense pays off? Besides paying off bills, and getting a new secondary server, we're looking into a number of things for our future and we already have a few exciting changes coming soon, and a large number of ideas in the pipeline. We're always looking to expand and reward our community and staff who work so hard.

I'll update this post with any answers to questions you have, and any more information if I've missed anything...

But please remember, as long as you are a registered member on our site, you will not be affected by anything. These changes are only being made to people who visit our site, hammer it and leave without contributing a thing to our community. We will make it clearer to guests that the adverts will be gone once they register an account.

We hope you've noticed the increased speeds over the last two days, and will stay tuned for further improvements once we get our new server and projects complete smile.gif

Thanks for your understanding.

PS. Please don't think clicking the links for us is a good idea, it's done by unique clicks so any more than once is asking for trouble as Google are quite severe on sites who encourage their users to click the ads, and we may end up getting them taken down.

NDS-GBA iPlayer GBA emulator v1.0 released
GBA emulator for the iPlayer by darkchen

darkchen has officially lifted the lid on his Game Boy Advance emulator specially designed for the iPlayer slot-1 media player. After bringing you the news two days ago, GBAtemp is now proud to announce the release of his amazing piece of work. iPlayer owners can now find the download, including installation instructions, at the link below.

Let me reiterate that this emulator will work ONLY on the iPlayer - it uses the extra on-board hardware found on the iPlayer to give the DS/DSi the extra juice needed to be able to emulate the GBA successfully. It will not work on any other flash kit.

iPlayer owners, please try it out and let us know what you think via the discussion link below. Enjoy!

GBA emulator for the DS by Darkchen *UPDATE*
GBAtemp Exclusive hands-on
Homebrew enthusiast and GBAtemp member darkchen has been busy developing a Game Boy Advance emulator for the Nintendo DS, and we've tried it! The result? Some extremely impressive work!

How did darkchen manage to emulate the GBA given the hardware limitations of the DS? The clever guy used the extra power that the DSiPlayer (slot-1 media player) provides to get the extra juice needed to emulate GBA at a decent speed. Unfortunately of course, this means that this emulator will only work on the iPlayer.

We've tried a handful of games using darkchen's emulator and the results have been extremely impressive. The majority of games (even 3D intensive games) work extremely well with almost perfect video and sound output. There is a little bit of slow down in some games (using a frameskip setting of 2), but the results are astonishing for a first release. I didn't even see a single graphical glitch. But, not only is the emulation side of things impressive, the emulator GUI itself is also very well done and offers a great number of useful and well implemented options such as save states, screenshots, frameskip and more. It even supports zipped ROMs, but has some issues with 256Mbit games when zipped.

You can check out our hands-on video of the emulator above to see it in action for yourself. (We apologise for the poor video quality - watch in HQ on YouTube for a better picture). Well done to darkchen for a great piece of software and we hope you'll continue to improve it.

Also, please be aware that darkchen has not yet released this emulator publicly, so please do not request download links.

*UPDATE*: GBAtemp are proud to announce that we are now able to release the emulator publicly TONIGHT (GMT). So stay tuned, iPlayer owners!
