Being an NTSC-J Wii owner, I'm used to being last when it comes to finding out whether games work with the system. Now that all of these wonderful, wonderful VC games are being dumped, however, I'm worried that us poor NTSC-J owners are going to be completely forgotten. Does anyone know anything about progress being made on a VC game region patcher? I'd love to get stuck into OoT again...

Yeah, I'm completely with you on this one. The region patcher that was posted has been reported as not working, so let's hope that one improves, or a new one surfaces. I would prefer to region patch the currently released games instead of injecting the roms to that result, but I guess I won't complain if that's what it takes, right?

I'm guessing we won't have to wait much to see progress on both of the aforementioned fronts.

This would also be particularly useful for PAL Wii owners. I know we seem to have the most roms dumped for our region, but they are hobbled by their forced 50hz and terrible "optimisations". It also means we cant use 480p mode. VC games from an NTSC region would be amazing. I too am hoping this becommes possoble soon.

You seem to have a wiikey so need I point out the GC ports of both 64 Zelda titles (including the master quest remix)? Region patching is possible too for GC games so that should not be a problem.

Granted they well maybe not quite as shiny as they might have been but well above the "playable" level.

How? Tell me!

I don't have a wiikey. Why, would one enable me to play other region VC games? i thought all it did was inject code into the disc drive data stream so that copied games can be played.

My apologies that was a bad choice of ordering on my part.
As far as I am aware there is no VC region patching right now but GC region patching is possible (I think the wiikey even does it unless I am mistaken).

uhm,it's very possible to "region patch" a vc title..in a certain sense.. you have to change an offset in the .tmd file before creating a wad, this offset (0x0019D (i did it last night, think it's this one) ) needs to be set to value 3 instead of 1.. this will allow the channel to try and boot it on any format.. This is no guarantee that it will work on your console though..but it will try (works for most games ive tried)
thats how they got SSB64 regionfree

If it is that easy, we could find a patcher soon, right ?

Is there any way I can offer bribes/girls/personal slavery to craffca to get him to do this quickly? My Wii Menu is looking so empty at the moment....

WDS 1.3 doesn't work, been tested several times. creffca is working on it for his Injectuwad application. Let's all give thanks to him!

Hey creffca, I know you're trying to combine a number of tools for your next version of injectuwad, but I was wondering if you're making any progress with changing the region of the roms?

Cheers

Guys, it's really easy. Unpack your WAD with bfgr_wadtools' wadunpacker, then open up your favourite hex editor and change offset 0x0019D in the .tmd from 01 to 03, then pack with wadpacker and install as normal. I'm playing USA SF64 right now with this method. No need for tools.

EDIT: use v038 if the latest version gives you headaches about common-key.

I have no idea how well this works for other ROMs. Try it I guess heh.

Please, try with ocarina of time. Changing it's region glitches the sound, but also changing the rom (with another OoT)

Are you running it on an NTSC-J machine or PAL?

Also: if your console is modded, you can just get the masterquest cube disk, with OoT and MM.

what Region is 03 ???
I know: 00=JAP 01=USA 02=PAL

Your method won't work for me... tried US to PAL... doesn't work!
btw: wiizle diizle shiizle changes the same Byte... and it changes the 16 Region Bytes. Changing Bytes is not the problem... resigning is the problem!
