I wonder if I'll play PS3 version (I bought it, but haven't played it yet).
I don't have a lot of time to play, and I wonder if I'll ever replay the game a second time.
I hope PS3 and DS are different enough to not feel like I'm just playing the same story.

also, people who played both already, do you suggest DS or PS3 first? or any order is fine?

I only started the game, I got about as far as I did in the ps3 version (the forest area, first few fights)

And I'm seeing some noticeable changes!
(no spoilers)
I can't speak for dialogue changes, as my Japanese is garbage tier, But there are some changes to story events even from the start.
For example, in the ps3 version, this creepy little girl keeps popping up to to "progress the plot"
In the ds game she's non-existent so far. Anything she did/interacted with is handled differently.

And from what I've read online the whole "white witch" thing is handled differently in the DS version,

Also. The combat is much more traditional, and the tutorial fight is completely re-done in the ps3 version.

So I'd say the base story is likely the same, But it's just tweaked a bit in the remake.

Also, there's a reason why all copies of the game came in a huge box! :rofl2: (not going to spoil it)

It may be worth a replaying for that,
The ps3 version's not your average remake, but it's not quite " a whole new game"

we need to make donation to every translator project, hopefully it will speed up the process ie free.

Deitz, while I appreciate the sentiment, I can assure you that all of us on the project have enough money to get by. The hard part is always finding good people, and then having those people find the time to work on the project. We all have lives, and this is all unpaid and largely uncredited work that we're doing (you can't really put these things on a resume for a real translation job), so the best currency that you can "pay" us in is patience and encouragement. :)

Some things in life cannot be bought with money. If translators would accept money, the work would degrade into a buyer/obligation thing. The whole idea is unpleasant.

I am really hoping this is still happening
It is still a work in progress - or rather, a work in the seemingly interminable editing and bug fixing stage. BUT. It is still happening, yes. Hahah.

It'll never be perfect, but we keep finding little things that make it tricky to play and some of the technical issues need a delicate hand.

Thanks for your patience and encouragement!

would it be unreasonable to think that this project will see a release this year? I'm not trying to sound impatient, sorry if it comes across as that. i've just been super hyped for this release since 2016 and you seem to be moving really quickly and nearing the end (from an outsider perspective; i have no idea how difficult the bugs are to fix). anyway, good luck, i'm looking forward to when this comes out

she posted yesterday.
but I guess you want something concrete (any screenshot or percentage ?)

if it's not too risky (thinking about c&d) some screenshots would be interesting to show progress on past issues/fixes and might help people wait a little more.

edit:
I added her message on the first post to have a "2018" progress.

Don't worry, we're not aiming for perfection. We just want you to be able to read as many of the lines we painstakingly translated as possible. We know there will be weird issues that we don't notice, or ways to meet an NPC before we were able to causing odd references to things that may or may not have happened yet. Hell, even as we translated this we found mistakes in the original text where characters would talk about stuff that they wouldn't know about until later in the game if you approached the right NPC at the wrong time.

We want to make sure that the things we know are broken are fixed so that rather than getting eight thousand release day messages about "XYZ thing is broken, OMG" we can get 8 messages saying "I found this one typo here in this out of the way place" or similar. :)

Releasing a translation where you can't actually read the translated text, in my opinion, is worse than just waiting a month or two longer. In the wise words of Miyamoto, 'A delayed game is eventually good, a bad game is bad forever.' Depending on how much attention this receives when it finally releases we may get C&D notices and have to stop all future translation updates, so we'd rather get it mostly right the first time.

I have recently retired and would have plenty of time to Playtest if this would be of any help to you.

Sorry I messed up that last post as I had 2 windows open at once and I wrote in the wrong one...

To Anjiera - I have recently retired and would have plenty of time to Playtest if this would be of any help to you.

I watched a playthrough of WOTWW quite a few years ago (probably around when it came out) and I loved it so much, I wanted to play it really badly but I never got a PS3, but hopefully I'll get to play this translate of the DS version!

Glad to see there is still progress going on !
Would it be reasonable to say that it could be ready in time for a release alongside Ni No Kuni 2 though ?

we all hope it'll be released before NNK2.
but next month is coming fast, I doubt it will be ready as anjiera didn't post a new progress.

the team is still fixing small and last problems. I don't know if the "beta test" phase is done at the same time, or if a full playthrough will be done before release.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
You should update the 360 to newest dash before RGHing it yes. But not a big deal if you don't, you can install new dash/avatar updates after. It's just easier to do it auto online before, instead manual offline after.
