The ever popular streaming event for speedrunners, Awesome Games Done Quick, has started once again, bringing skilled players to the table to speedrun multiple video games in order to raise money for charity. The winter event will take place January 7 to January 14, in Herndon, Virginia, encompassing a full week of streams, including speedruns of titles like Donkey Kong Country 2, Sonic Mania, Castlevania SOTN, Super Mario 3D World, along with a finale consisting of Breath of the Wild, and will raise money for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. AGDQ's last event took place in summer 2017, and raised over 2.2 million dollars in donations for cancer prevention. The Twitch channel will be linked below, along with a schedule of all the upcoming games.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 will kick off at 8:30 PT/16:30 GMT. Prior to that, will be a rebroadcast of last year's show.

Games are played in whatever language is fastest. Typically because of text speed but some glitches and stuff in games can also be specific to a certain region's game release.

I remember reading that setup for tasbot is a tremendous pain in the ass, but I dunno if that's the specific reason or not.

Based on the method used to actually showcase it, is not the same as other console verified runs. The dolphin emulator was used, then recorded replays that was able to playback perfectly, then the save data with the replay data was transferred to a gamecube memory card. It be the same way you do things with Mario Kart, F Zero or other racing games that has replay data.
