is that a confirmation ?
Oh, it was a question! (without questions mark)

No, it will probably not be released in 2017, see how much work there is left and how much time it requires.
Anjiera explained a little her needed work few post ago.

I still dont get why every translator finds it necessary to hold back their translations until they are perfect and free of bugs. you'd think theyd want to silence the beggers and release the "play at your own risk" patch with whatever text wrapping and possible crashes there may be. theres also the issue that getting a dmca would be devastating for everyone, as all the work is in the translators hands and they cant do anything with it. if there were periodic uploads of the unfinished patch there would be; 1. something for new translators to work with. and 2. something to show for all your hard work. it just seems so much more advantageous to do it that way.

I prefer a patch where I can read.
If you want a patch where the text is out of your screen, what's the purpose to wait for a translation ? just play in a language you won't even read.

Currently, it's not holding on anything, or trying to make it bug free, it's still trying to make a readable and releasable version of it.
it's still not releasable. and like she said, she will release it as incomplete and not bugfree. the team is not trying to make the ultimate version before releasing it.

new translator doing one part for a game like this is probably worse than using google translate.
That project already had 3 or 4 "reset" because of new translator coming to the team.

youd prefer no patch at all to a patch you cant read? how does that make sense? I never said that they should release it as the finished product. if a translator released an unfinished patch for archiving purposes, then just dont play it. the point is to occasionally release the work to; 1. silence all the beggers. and 2. to prevent a dmca or unforseen event from permanently canceling it. if you personally would rather not play an unfinished patch and they release one anyway, then dont play it.

yes, there's a risk they get DMCA/Cease and desist before a release.
but that would be bad to have the first incomplete patch with random part of the game translated (because it's not always translated in playable chronological order) and get a c&d at the start of the project.
you'll have an incomplete game you played. personally, I prefer completing the games I start. I don't play if I knowI can't complete a game (or don't know if I can) . I play only one game at a time and complete it until playing another one.
but I understand your view point too.

then dont play the incomplete patch... its literally that simple. its always better for there to be at least something there for the next person to work on in the event of unforeseen consequences. I literally cannot count the number of near finished translations that died because the translation team didnt release any their work before something happened. even simply releasing the files by themselves in nonpatch form would help. it would stop people from trying to play the incomplete patch like you want, but still allow a new team to work on it should a dmca or unforeseen event occur. there is no downside to releasing the files.

I understand better the idea to release the working files, yes.
it's like closed sources programs and the developer never give new release, nobody can update it.

Christmas 2018 is fine by me. Have such a Pile of Shame right now... Anjira ebest wishes for xmas and beyond,
real people are the best company there is.

A Cease & Desist order from LEVEL 5, Inc, USA, would be very unlikely. Reasons:
1) The spanish version is out like forever, with no c&d.
2) the creator said it would not be possible to translate. He was a fool, see previous point, but level 5 has long ago decided not to pursue the idea.
That is why Ajiera put years of her life into it.

It follows that an incomplete version would be welcomed by just about everyone.

Hi, I was occasionally stalking this project without even being a member of GBAtemp for about 3 years.
I haven't checked in in more than a year, since I was quite sure the project was dead.
And the fact that not only it's not, but it's almost complete and going probably to be released in a couple of months are the most amazing, unexpected news!

Thank you, THANK YOU for your hard work, thank you for not giving up on it, thank you for going through all of this all this years. Seriously.

(I kinda wished though I checked in a few months later, now I'll probably will be obsessively checking for updates everyday :Ρ )

For those who kept asking for incomplete patch, please don't just trying to satisfy your own wish. Try looking from the her perspective as well. Asking her to release an incomplete patch is the same as asking for an artist to draw a picture of you, but when he only managed to finish drawing up to the body, you forced him to release the picture, even though the head part is still pure sketch. And then, he needs to deal with your complain, stating the drawing isn't finished yet, or it was still horrible (or bugging, in this patch matter).

You also need to consider their feeling. Some people simply just don't like releasing an unfinished product, one that they don't even feel satisfied with. Call it their principle, call it their ego, whatever you want. But she's doing this for free, so please let her do it however she want, in a way that she would be satisfied with, especially since you guys don't provide anything that help to complete this project other than whining or complaining. I believe that she doesn't aiming to release a perfect or flawless product or something. She only aims to release a product that she could be satisfied with.

As hyped for Ni no Kuni as i am however remembering those machine translated light novel, i would say that translate should take their time for a proper release with bug free translation and grammar, especially for a game.

FWIW Christmas is a great time to play the ps3 version, however I suspect everyone has moved on to ps4.. nnk is also amazing the second time, now in ivory tower.

I wonder if I'll play PS3 version (I bought it, but haven't played it yet).
I don't have a lot of time to play, and I wonder if I'll ever replay the game a second time.
I hope PS3 and DS are different enough to not feel like I'm just playing the same story.

also, people who played both already, do you suggest DS or PS3 first? or any order is fine?

I played through the PS3 version I highly recommend it,

I'd say if you give it enough time between playthroughs there would be replay value the same way the pokemon games have reply value you can play through with a different team but...

Ni No Kuni 2 comes out soon there is a good chance you wouldn't be coming back to these.

I can't tell you about the DS version, I'm waiting for the translation but I can say at least after playing the PS3 game I'm still keen to play this, which seems like a bare bones version.

Well, I have the Japanese ROM and played on my 3DS (thankfully all ds roms are region free) for about 10-15 hours before getting completely lost in translation, and finished the PS3 main quest a few years ago. They are similar yet very different. Without spoiling, afaik the ds version wants you to defeat the dark wizard, and the PS3 version wants you to defeat him and then defeat the white witch. Although you might deduce that the PS3 version is therefore more, and playing the ds version would seem lame afterwards, the combat gameplay of the ds version is turn based tactical, and requires different skills. Plus the ds is portable! I don't know if a portable ps3 version exists though. In the ds version you have to draw spells. In the PS3 version you get to train familiars (pokemon), teach them spells by feeding them gems, craft weapons and armor stuff for them to wear, very addictive if you let yourself; I didn't get many familiars in the ds version, didn't need them, so I can't comment on how the ds version compares in that respect.

I guess I'll wait for the DS version then.
also, about the release of NNK2, it's not a problem, I'm not required to play it at release date. look, I still haven't played the PS3 game I bought at release date! I'll just wait to play them in order. video games don't have time limit to enjoy them.

Hey, folks! Thanks for all of your patience. I've been away from the forum, and from keeping tabs on the project, for a bit as I had to suddenly find a new job. Things are more stable now, it seems, and after Christmas I'll be more focused on the project again.

We have a bunch of text bugs left (typos, or weird phrasing) and there's a critical (ie makes a couple of places unplayable) problem with the Astram font that our ROM hacker knows how to deal with, but hasn't had a chance to tackle yet as it is apparently going to be a pain in the ass. There are a few other graphical issues that are annoying that we will try to get done as well, but overall the game is really solid to play and we do feel like we're (albeit slowly) wrapping things up. We're not finding new issues, is what I mean, we're making progress on the stuff that we know about.

As always, we will release when we're done, and while people not on the team have other opinions on the validity of this approach, we are still committed to doing a playable patch release once the game is, well, fully playable.

Happy Holidays, folks! I'll do another update again in the New Year. :D
